Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Six Flags Great America is a theme park, linebacker. Not an amusement park.

No need to get all upset. So everyone just take a chill pill.

As to my feelings of the water park..... I will be spending some money come October for 2005 I believe. :)

I disagree that the waterpark is a waste, I think it is better than getting a new coaster. I do agree about the modernization, BUT not to change the themeing, but to recreate it. I think they should completely refurb the themeing, make some actual themeing for rides, repaint the buildings, build new buildings in place for the old ones. Just making it look new again. That's not changing it, thats helping it, yet by doing this, I don't see the attendance going up anymore than a new ride or especially a BRAND NEW water park.

And for everybody saying, if you don't like it don't go, If you don't like a post DON'T reply. Your butchering someones thoughts in a place where they can share them. It's just an opinion, don't get all upset about it.

It's not a waste of money. A 13-acre waterpark goes much farther than remodeling everything.... Plus, not remodeling the buildings gives the park that classic feel. Management is fine, SFGAm probably has the best management in the chain.

Sorry to correct you, but the waterpark is 13 acres and the waterpark is expected to cost $35,000,000.

Its cool that you like the park, but i think its absolutly crazy to say its the best thing in the U.S. And I really hate it when people say stuff like "if you dont like it dont go". People say it about mardi gras, gam, fright fest, and a ton of other stuff. This is a DISCUSSION BOARD. Whitesoxfan is just speaking his mind and bringing up what he thinks the park needs to do to improve itself and wants to hear everyones response and opinion. I dont agree that the water park is a waist of money. Its a BRAND NEW PARK with new theming, new paint jobs, new paving, new rides, niver eating areas, food stands, everything. And it will draw in way more people. Besides that i do agree with his points about the park lookin junky an needing to be rehabed. Hometown square is really nice but I think they need to replace the enterence gates because there ugly as sin and redo yankee harbor. In yankee harbor they should reapint the building in front of ice mountain that sells drinks and cotton candy on one side and has a picture place on the other, but they should tear down the virtual reality pllace by the bathrooms as well as angelos pizza and pasta and start from scratch on the architecture. They need to make them 2 storys high or just have windows coming out of the roof to give the illusion that they are taller, and at angelos, they need to make the inside way better themed and make the seating area outside nicer.

Thank you Miss Prissey Pants.
Like you said it is a disscussion board, and I was also stating my opinion.

Thank you for spelling that word right! Anyways, I know for me, I would have rather gotten a new themed area with a nice coaster to go with it. I've always known Great America as a theme park without a water park. I wouldn't use the water park much, anyways. It'll be more touristy (in my opinion) than the theme park itself. But that's just me, and still, I'm looking forward to 2005 and am physced about the new Hurricane Harbor addition.

EDIT: Have there been some recent mods to board? I initialed "in my opionion" and it spelled it out for me.

Word Censors are more than just blocking bad words. :)

I really don't know if we'll ever get another "new" area ever, since space is more of a issue. We might get a area redone ( a la Mardi Gras ) but I don't think we'll see another Southwest Territory type expansion, there just isn't room.

The thing to remember is the bottom line, thats the driving force with this expansion. It'll greatly help SFGAm increase not only attendance, but revenue as well. And seeing how SF has been performing recently, it needs all the help it can get. Don't expect Kerian Burke to stay around too much longer if Mr. Gates gets his way.

Eating one day old McDonalds? I don't know if I could ever do that. They are bad enough when they are fresh.
But I ALWAYS take my own food to 6 flags. Nothing like going back to the car, make a sandwhich and go to sleep for 30 minutes...mmmm sleep!!!!

SFGAm Rules wrote:^ I always buy a few bags of the discount hamburgers at the McDonalds in the Gurnee Mills parking lot (Next to Taco Bell) on Friday nights. I then take some and have them for lunch the next day at SFGAm. I never have been questioned.

They didn't decide yesterday to build the water park. I would bet that they have had this on the table for at least 5 years now. They have no doubt hired a research team to crunch numbers. This takes time. And it;'s not just one person's decision, it goes all the way up to the Board of Directors. Great investment my only question is what are they going to do about parking? No longer will there be just 48,000 people there. Now look at the numbers being 60,000+

Jamesb58 wrote:I tell ya, I think that Hurricane Harbor is a great investment that the
park is making.

I'm not 100% sure, but It's not totally Tim Black's decision where the
money goes towards our park. The Six Flags Corporation Heads, decide
where they like to see the money go, and towards what.

All Tim Black can do is submit his ideas and tell them where he would
like to see it. The heads said that the $37 Million goes towards the
waterpark. If they thought that GAm needed more improvement and
modernization, they would have said that $37 Million goes towards the
development of a new waterpark and for futher improvements of their
curent Theme Park. So that's my thought there.

As for the comment of the Management. I do like our current managment.
I think our park has improved dramatically since Tim Black took over.
He has cleaned up our park, and it's starting to improve greatly.
So, saying that we have bad Managment doesn't sit right with me.

Well, that's enough from me!

I would think it would be a safe bet to assume that this particular concept of the waterpark has been planned for only a couple of years. 5 years may be pushing it. Yes, they have been planning a waterpark for many years, but the others have been rejected.

Also, Parking is being handled sufficiently.

Yes, the parking situation obviously was the first consideration before they gave the go ahead to build the waterpark.

If you look at the backlot , a portion of it has been finished, and they painted the stripes to accomodate more vehicles. Plus, any grassy areas in the backlot are being converted to blacktop to accomodate even more vehicles.

I was told that 500 additional parking spaces are being added to the lot. Also, The new parking spaces will not face the park like they are now they will be faced sideways. By changing the position of the spaces and removing some of the grass area they are able to add an additional 500 spaces.

Do you think that after the season ends they are going to do the whole parking lot to be like that? Imagine how many more spaces they could come up with! And not to mention how much it needs to be redone.
Finally Coaster Season!!

Yeah, I am assuming they will re-do the front lot as well. The new buslot will be in front of SUF so they are definitely going to re-do that portion of it at least.
