Mr Freeze

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

Hey... I heard in a different topic that Mr Freeze used to have OTS restraints but not anymore? Um doesn't it go upside down like 2 or 3 times? Now I try to not be a wimp but.... I've never been on a ride that goes upside down without a shoulder restraint. How does it feel? Do you get lifted out of your seat allot?

I've been on scorpion at busch gardens tampa. I was scared at first, and i thought it wouldnt work but then it was ok. I've been on mr. freeze about 5 or 6 times, but thats when it had OTS restraints.

I forgot the exact feeling, but I will post a trip report that will include insight, either later tonight or tommorow. If I remember correctly, it is a pretty weird feeling.

Yeah, I've been on the Mr. Freeze without the over the shoulder restraints, and it's nothing to get scared over. The restaints are much tighter than an Am E or Viper, but are still comfortable. It's just that you can get pushed a little bit more forward because you have nothing pushing your upper body back. The other ride I've been on with this is Mind Bender at SFOG, FYI I enjoy these two very much. So, I hope you have fun when you go on it for the first time.

Mr. Freeze uses a very large lap bar with sissy handles on the top of it. The bar is close to 1ft thick. It seems to have a lot more positions or clicks then most bars and as an added back up it has a seat belt that connects to the side of the lap bar. The seat belt is on the outside of each seat in the row. There are also large rollers at the bottom of the restraint that your feet usually fit under depending on your size. Even though it is more cramped than most, and it prevents larger guests from riding, I actually prefer this kind of system to OTSR - less headbanging.

Deja Vu the Ride - When you went (or when you go), did you notice how many people had to leave the ride when boarding due to being to large or too short? It happens a lot due to the newer system.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.

I found the restraints cramped, but they were better than any OTSR could have been. It's a great feeling going through the tophat backwards.

its really cool. ive been on both sides of the chiller with lapbars and it was so cool. They are called lockbars, and they are different from lap bars because they lock in place. The cant move up or down so if you have some room in there, your going to get whipped from side to side and get some air. Its aresome. Beats the hell outa over the shoulder restraints.

What was the new system Ihauntu2? I didn't notice anyone denied a ride.(Well I actually only had to wait at most 10 minutes for it though.)

Honestly there is no big difference in coasters that go upside down without a lap bar. The G's going through the loops push you into the seat...although on Mr. Freeze there is a bit of hangtime at the top of the top hat.

Still nothing to worry about and your not going to come out of your seat at all.

Mr. Freeze is a great ride, I got to ride it a few weeks ago. Can't imagine riding the ride with OTSR's it had to be rough going around the turn. The greatest part of the ride for me though was going through the top hat getting some hangtime all while your hands feel as if they are inches away from the supports.

The new system is the lap bars compared to the older OTSR's that used to be on the ride. There is a larger Reddish haired ride op that works either the front control in the window or the rear behind the launch track. I think his name might be Shawn. Anyway if you saw him, he is a perfect example of someone who used to be able to ride with the old OTSR, but can't ride now due to the lap bar.

It sounds like crowds were non existent when you went if you were only waiting 10 min. Were they only launching one side or two?

I have ridden Mindbender and Flight of Fear with lapbars. I would take lapbars 10 times over OTSR's. It feels more minimal and free! :)
Finally Coaster Season!!

I haven't been to the park until this year. So I wouldn't know how that changed. And yes I did see the reddish haired ride op. He was coming to the ride as we were leaving the exit.(twice). Trip report now Available.

I have been on Son of Beast and Greezed Lightnin (formally Tidal Wave) and i love the feeling of going through the loop without OTSRs. The hang time and the air is awesome!
