Do you still like IW?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Iron Wolf has always been one of my favorite rollercoasters. This is going to sound crazy, but it's one of the very few coasters that I have never been even slightly nervous about going on.
And when I rode it earlier this week, I rode in the last row, and it actually seemed smooth to me and the people I was there with.
While it could totally use some cosmetic work, all in all it's still a great ride.

Iron Wolf and all other stand up coaster are good if you know how to ride them correctly. Its really important to stand up straight and keep your head back. Sometimes I see people actually sitting on the bicycle seat with their legs bent ( that ride is gonna be painful). Everytime I ride Iron Wolf I enjoy it. Yes it is a little rough, but considering its age I dont really think its that bad. Plus everytime I go to the park the queue is usually full so people dont seem to shy away from it.

I like the Scorcher much better than IW or Mantis. While it wasn't as intense, it was a very nice ride. No head banging at all. Too bad IW wasn't made the same. I guess they couldn't have made one like at SFOG back then.

I only like riding IW in the front row....thats the best seat on it, in my opinion... but mantis at CP is a much better coaster! I really liked it a lot!

If you are a fan of laterals, then Iron Wolf should be the greatest coaster ever to you. With all the turns and how sharp they are, it's a lateral whore's dream!

Shockwave was the only other coaster at Great America I was totally chill about riding. I loved it! (and no, I am not just saying that because it's gone. If you ran into me at the park at any point, you could ask whoever I am there with and they'd tell you I always loved that ride. )

I have never been too crazy about Demon. I always get a terrible headache from that ride.

How can I "still" like IW if I never liked it in the first place?

My favorite part about Georgia Scorcher was the straight 1st drop instead of the curving one like Iron Wolf's. I got some great air on that, about as good as the pop you get coming off of Iron Wolfs missing MCBR.
Finally Coaster Season!!

When Iron Wolf first Opened it didn't use the U harnesses is does now. Yes it was the first but for many years it ran very smoothly. You see the turns are smaller on I/W. It was the General Publics Misconduct which lead to the U's of today. Hidden under all that padding is a Awesome Coaster.

If it didn't have the U harness, did it feature the old J harness that comes from the one side and down from the top?

Here's a picture of the old restraints versus new restraints.

The old restraints were slightly more enjoyable. The U's dont really make a dramatic difference.

I didn't go to GAm a lot until 2002 so I don't really remember how comfortable the old restraints are, I definitly remember it without all the vibrations (new trains may do something about that).

I remember going on Iron Wolf with those, and now they have the U's with the Marine Use Only Clips. They were more spacious.

I think the reason they changed the restraints was because other B&M stand ups have those restraints. They probably figured the newe ones were safer. Not to mention cooler. 8)

Funny the old ones look like intamin ag stand up restraints take a look at shockwave at sfmm restraints @ rcdb.com. Mabye B&M worked at intamin ag before they went and started their own company?

B&M used everything Intamin on Iron Wolf, as it was Bolliger & Mabillards first coaster since leaving Intamin.
