05-29-04 My first time on V2

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby RedOne3781 on June 1st, 2004, 2:34 pm
My second visit of the season went a lot smoother than the first.
This time I went with my 11 year old cousin, and met up with her older sister, and her sister's friends later on in the day.
Got to the park around 1:30pm or so.
Walked around the whole park trying to find a cheap sweater for my cousin, because she was freezing. Couldn't find one anywhere.
Went on Ricochet (sp?) then Big Easy Balloons. That ride was fun.
Then finally decided to go to the car and get a sweater for the kid and a jacket for me.
Met up with my other cousin and her friends. Got in line for Ragin Cajun. Saw some stuff happen - not going to get into it because I don't want to be the one to start rumors. Needless to say, didn't get to ride it, but it looked like a lot of fun.
The 11 year old doesn't really like coasters, so I took her on all the flats. Had fun.
Decided with the other 3 to get on V2. I have never ridden it before, looking at it makes me break out into a sweat. Waited in line 5 minutes, almost got on it and totally chickened out. Stepped through while the others went on.
Went for some food.
Saw this cheesy "We've Got the Beat" show.
Went back to V2. No line at all. So, I was talked into going on it. OH MY FREAKIN GOD. That ride is....interesting. I thought I was going to pee my pants. Is it supposed to make this horrible screeching sound during the vertical hold? (don't know the technical term) Because that sound, and being held up there like that, nearly made me pee my pants. Got off the ride shaking like a leaf. But I finally did it! And I'll probably do it again. 8) Now the only other ride I have to go on is Deja Vu. I'll get up the nerve for that eventually...lol.
Closed out the night by going on the old fashioned cars twice (forgot the name) to make the 11 year old happy, then running over to Raging Bull, to make myself happy. As usual, I LOVED that ride. It's probably my favorite ride ever. (Well, that and Tower of Terror over at WDW).
Well, that was my day.
All in all, it was fun.
Sorry for the long long post.

The screaming noise wouldnt be on the brake, that would be the riders themselves. It usually only makes that noise on the 1st launch. Ask Aero the V2 know it all  And trust me, Tr's have been seen WAY WAY longer. Good TR and glad you got on V2. One of my favorites! Also, next time, just get it line for DV and just seriously threaten yourself (thats what worked for me back in the day with my first ride on Shockwave) and you wont regret it.

No really. It was when we here held on the straight vertical thing at the very end. It went up, then did the the whole click into place thing. Then it stopped. Then it clicked a few more times. Then it kinda of went "eeeeeee" all loud and high pitched. Then *woosh* we were dropped back down into the station.
Very interesting ride. Maybe it's because it was my first time on it and I really didn't know what to expect, that I remember that sound so much...lol. I thought for sure I was going to die...
My cousin (the older of the 2 I went with), who is totally addicted to V2 said that she hears it once in a while, but has no idea what causes it.

Yeah V2 has always made that screetching noise on the holding brake, it's not only from the riders. Even when it tests it makes that noise.

The Break on V2 is a LIM. It's a Holding LIM. The sound you hear is from LIM's. I believe it depends on were you sit if you here them or not and also how loud everyone is screaming. I believe rain might also affect the sound.

I know its an LIM. The LIM is reversing the magnetic field in the oppite direction making like poles. Then it releases again. Im just trying to figure out where in that tiem period that would make the noise.

Yes, the LIMs are supposed to make that noise. The reason it sounds so quiet is based on where you are sitting on the train. Front row will not really hear it since you are not on the actual brake. The back few rows are in the best position to hear the sound as the LIM is directly (figuratively speaking) above you. It also sounds louder in the station (to someone waiting in line) because there is a great deal of electrical interference with the loudspeakers emulating a noise very similar to the sound of the LIMS (anywhere from 15-60 Hz).

RCT2Wizard360, I think your thinking of LSM with the reversed polarity. LIM’s work much like a normal electric motor meaning an electrical pulse travels down the line of LIMs and the train basically rides the pulses. LSM’s work by reversing the polarity of the drive magnet to first attract a constant magnet, fixed to the train, and later repel the magnet. If you notice on the back holding brake, the train actually slowly moves up the spike if it is a light train (although I’ve been on full trains and seen it slowly creep up this year).

So yes, hearing the screeching sound is perfectly normal and it always happens. Often time people actually think that the sound of the LIM’s is actually people screaming.

Anyways, nice trip report. If you have ridden Raging Bull back row you have enough courage to ride any and all the coasters. Do not let a vertical drop scare you. Airtime is your friend. :)

I used to think that the LIMS were people screaming, espicially on the holding brake. Eventually when I watched it test and noticed that it still made that sound I figured it out a little more. Then I joined these forums and got educated though. 8)

I love the back row on Ragin Bull. To me, it's the only place to sit. Most people I go with think I am insane because of it..lol.
Yet, I cannot stand being in the front row. Don't know why.
And I think that after I ride V2 a few more times I'll like it more.

I agree about backrow RB.. the only time I will sit front row on RB is when it is dark out.. that's pretty awesome! Rest of the time back row all of the way!

Rb in the back..for it to be perfect you need to be on an outside seat. With your hands up the whole ride. That first hill feels SO GOOD with your hands up in the back row!

It's a neat concept, and a cool looking ride, but I personally think that there are better things in the park (like just about every other coaster, lol).

Well it is unique, It is the only launched coaster in the park, features the most vertical drop time and is the second fastest ride in the park (perhaps Giant Drop might be faster?). Not to mention that it does not have a floor. in my opinion these all make a great coaster!

Actually Raging Bull is the fastest ride in the park at 73 mph, V2 is at 70 mph, and GD is at 65.

I said that V2 was second fastest ride in the park. I wasn't sure if it was third behind Giant Drop because I had no idea how fast it went.
