Holiday gives up on new trains for The Voyage

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

For four years, we have worked in partnership with Gravitykraft Corp. to test a new style of roller coaster train for The Voyage, our award-winning wooden roller coaster.

We very much appreciate Gravitykraft’s efforts in this process, however ultimately we have decided to continue running the existing trains on our three wooden coasters.

From when one of the train designers told folks at Holliwood nights back in 2010 that the heads were snapping off the dummies (complete with corn everywhere around the ride) it never looked good. I'd love to see the total bill for the entire deal sunk into the grand idea.

Not surprised at all..

Its a shame that this ride will be basically unrideable in a few years if its not already.

Not surprised here after stories I've heard. Here's the thing: For anyone who has ridden a roller coaster with Timberliners, we can all agree that the lapbar setup, while comfortable, ruins any sense of airtime. PTCs will always have that classic feel with great sensations of airtime. Voyage is an airtime machine, a part of me was hoping for this.

I wonder if they'll go with RMC topper track someday. Doing that would ultimately solve the problem, plus they can still keep the classic feel PTC trains.

I really don't feel any desire to go back to Holiday World until they get a new coaster. The water park is AWESOME but I don't feel like driving 6+ hours into the middle of nowhere and overpaying for hotels to mainly visit a water park. Voyage was my #1 and blew me away when I first rode it. Now I haven't gone for a few years without going and have a new favorite. Who knows, maybe next year there will be another.

Agreed. After hearing how rough Voyage has gotten, they need to look at other options. I hope they're not worried about their relationship with Gravity Group on this one. Bite the bullet, spend the money, topper track Voyage. I'm sure the coaster community would be thrilled, as well as their maintenance department!

Voyage was running very well this year, no real roughness at all that it hasn't had since opening day. Last year after they rebuilt a part of the turnaround, it was butter smooth. They take good care of the ride. I don't think Timberliners would have helped roughness issues at all, the main point of them is to reduce maintenance costs for the park, no matter how HW or any other park tries to spin it, the only reason to change rolling stock is for maintenance reasons, rider comfort is entirely irrelevant.
