Dells Update

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Coaster_Cop on February 26th, 2004, 5:59 am
I took the family on a mid-winter vacation in Wisconsin Dells this past week and thought I would give everybody a quick update on what was going on.

First off, we stayed at the Wilderness Resort with 3 indoor water parks and 1 dry playland it was a great place to take the family in winter, at this time of year the price is also right and I would hate to see what they charge for this place in peek season.

Ok on to the update, or lack there of. I left the resort with camera in hand to get construction pictures of the new coaster at Timber Falls Adventure Golf. I thought with 3 months to go till the busy season starts there would be a lot getting done. Wow was I suprised. I actually had to take 3 passes by the park to even notice any sort of work going on. The nice thing about the area is they do not expect people comming in the construction area to look things over. I thought might not be able to get to the area because of all the work going on. It turned out not to be to difficult, I drove by the 1 consturction worker and just looked lost.

All I was able to find was what looked to be 20 footers pored, what looks to be the station getting started, and numerous piles of wood and dirt. There was nothing to take pictures of. I did see a basic course staked out but needless to say there is a long way to go and I will not be rushing down there early season to get a ride in. I believe it will be awile before they get this thing running, then again I am not a construction expert. The good news is the next day there were 2 construction workers there with a Bobcat, so progress is being made.

I was very suprised at the work being done at Big Chief's. When they cleared land they really did a job. You could see all of Zeus from the road and they had what looked to be the structure done for a new Grand enterance.

That is all for now.

My guess would be early to mid summer. From what I saw they still needed to do some land clearing in the and pour about 75% of the footers yet. I would like to thing though that it will go up fast. If you have ever been to the dells in the summer the traffic is horrible making construction difficult and I would not think they would want to lose the $$ from their other attractions that the construction will be disrupting. They also need to rework the enterance to their offices becuase the coaster cuts right infront for it.

I just got my Dells 2004 Travel & Attraction guide, and there is an Advertisement for the Avalanche at Timber Falls. Could they be doing what Big Cheif did last year? Advertising the coaster and it not even being open by the time the tourist season starts? That would suck because I really want to try it out.

In The timber falls ad they give the information in typical Wisconsin Dells Style. "Wisconsin's Fasest, Longest, & Tallest Roller Coaster!" They must of forgot about Zeus (that can be seen from Timber falls) which is bigger in all of thoes areas.

Also, in the ads I have seen for Big Chiefs they must have decided to undergo a name change for Triton. It is called in the ads "Dive to Atlantis: Water Roller Coaster"

Mike Graham of Gravity Group did announce the other day at a regional ACE Evernt (southern Ohio region I believe) that some concept art of Hades will appear on the Gravity Group website along with info on the new model coaster that was at NCC(not sure if it will be on GG website or if it will be a link on their website to the new offical page for the Dynamix Coaster.

Also for the big chief coaster (though technially Big Chief exists no longer, it's now Big Chief Mt. Olympus Theme Park and will be strictly POP with a main gate), here is all of what was said about the coaster.

* It will be larger than Zeus
* It will feature at least one tunnel
* It will run a PTC train.

Something to look forwards to in 2005, and hopefully ACE Coaster Con will be held there with some ERT on this new coaste :)

Art rendering has already been poasted for timber falls new coaster. it looks full of airtime hills. It is 76 feet tall and it will circle the park twice. One 12 passenger train (three 2-bench cars)

According to their website, its $29.95 a day at Big Cheif, but it also says that their water coaster is named "Triton". So i wouldnt really trust it at all.

The price for the Timber Falls Coaster is $5.99 per ride or a full day unlimited ride pass for $19.99. The full day also includes the log fume, bumper boats, and golf. Actually it sounds like a good deal. But looking at the art work on screamscape and what I saw on Tuesday of last week they have a long way to go. Plan your trip for late summer although because it has a steel frame it might go up faster.

So don't plan a trip to Big Cheif anytime soon
