This seems rather irresponsible of the park to do. I don't live or work anywhere near the park (takes me about an hour to an hour and a half), so I should be far enough away that traffic wouldn't affect me from this. I feel bad for those who do live or work near the park and will get caught up in traffic.

Perhaps this could have also been misinterpreted; I thought I remember last season they did something where they opened up 3 rides or so and had an NBC broadcast within the park. People were allowed in for that for free, but had to leave afterwards and would have to pay for normal admission to remain at the park that day. If they did something like this, then it wouldn't be a terrible event.

Edit: looks like they are only doing this until 7 am, so I don't think this will be anything to make a big deal about.

well from what they said you will get free admission and free parking for the whole day but with people having to be there by 7 and it being a wednesday i highly doubt itll even be crowded so i guess i will see when i get there and they did do something like this but you could ride superman for an hour which noone was there so im guessing this will end up being the same...every year they have something like this i always go and there is hardly anyone there

I just called everyone in my little group that day to take off the 17th now instead. I just am not risking it at all. They are offering all admission FREE by 7am right? If SFOG hit capacity before the scheduled time, whose to say we arent way earlier?! We live in a tri-state metro area. Hurricane Harbor hits capacity almost everyday its open & you're gonna tell me you're now sayin the dry park along with parking is free?! GP eat up the free water park alone. People will seriously ditch school & #$%@ for this when they hear it on the radio. Everyone's gonna think they're gonna get in. Now you're goin to have the guests who are clueless rollin up 294 at 930/10am thinkin they're in for a great day when in reality they prob will either get no where near the park cause of traffic for a while &/or be turned down. This just seems disastrous, i think its a very poor decision on the park. Not to mention & without offending anyone which it shouldn't, but lets be real.... they're going to attract many low class people. Guests on average trash our park & its $65+ to get in. Now you're waiving that entrance fee + waiving the $20-25 parking. You'd think the chain would have learned from past mistakes. I believe our park is classier than this, I'm just nervous.

Lemme get this straight. Parking and admission are free, but only if you get to the park before 7AM on Wed, May 16th?

(And X-Flight is opening to the public that day? Am I getting this correct? )

Wow, at least a 3 hour line to wait even before the ride opens!

Why would they get there before 7? What is there to do before the park opens? Sit? Wait?

^ Because it is FREE. Free makes a lot of people go crazy. Really, read the SFOG article in the first post. This has been done before, it is a disaster, and the same thing can and will happen here.

Just got off the phone with Great America. It sounds like this will be an all day-free event.

^ I have to wonder why all the information has been removed from K-Hits site while SFGAm says this is still happening.

Latest twitter update from the park:
Sorry for the confusion fans and @IzCoaster. Yes Eddie and JoBo will be live on May 16th. But nothing is confirmed yet about admission.

SGFA told us that those two would be broadcasting live at the park but i didn't see them come out and say there was free entry yet. I think we're all jumping to an assumption that "yes they will be there may 16" meant everything stated was true. the internet is full of liesssss sometimes stupid stupid stupid.

I received a few messages from GA on Twitter saying "Can you please delete your newest post on your forum about the free admission. That is not true. They are still working things out" as well as "SFGA has NOT stated there is free admission on the 16th, please correct" Then they realized they sent it to the wrong person

I don't think it's any big conspiracy or "lies." It's just that some people jumped the gun on this.

I'm not worried about long lines on X-Flight. We're doing the VIP Tour again this year. We'll walk by the Extreme Pass holders and ride it as much as we want.

Love the VIP Tour.

I just found out from Six Flags Great America that details are still be worked out at this time. The only thing confirmed is that B-96's Eddie and Jobo will be at the park on May 16th. No other details have been finalized at the moment and B96 has removed it from the website.

So as of now there is no free admission to the park early May 16th. I will be updating the first post of this topic soon so there is no confusion.

The page is back up, now it's only the first 500 people who show up....

Join The New 104.3 K-HITS and Eddie & Jobo as we broadcast live LIVE from Six Flags Great America for the grand opening of the brand new roller coaster, X-Flight.

Make sure you arrive EARLY. The first 500 listeners that come out to the event by 7:00am will be the first to ride X Flight when the park opens. You, your friends and family can all enjoy the day in the park on K-HITS & Six Flags!

We’re passing out special commemorative items and prizes (while supplies last) so you can be the first to experience X-Flight!

The K-HITS crew will be there begining at 4am with your chance to win other great stuff too, like K-HITS swag, concert and movie tickets, CD’s, DVD’s and much more. Don’t miss this awesome day at Six Flags Great America!

That is still crappy. They should have the ride an hour before the park opens. 500 people will have X-Flight tied up for atleast 45 minutes

You've got to wonder if SFGAM saw the news story about what happened in Georgia when they did this and said, "hmm, maybe this isn't a GREAT idea..." :)
