Walt Disney Dining Plan..Oops I mean Valleyfair..

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

Yes, that's right, Valleyfair! is having what they call the Dining Plan. It's simple really, but is this the new thing, or did they have it all of 2011? Well, anyway what happens is that people pay a little more for their admission, and they get 1 meal per day, and 1 snack per day. They don't pay a ton more really - They pay $5 more. Now, does this mean that season pass holders aren't able to get this? I don't know. It seems kind of unfair to me. Maybe, if they buy a platinum pass, they should get this.

They also are offering Character Breakfast. And nope, that doesn't sound familiar at Disney either...

That's $10 per person. The Character Breakfast has been going on since June. Maybe both programs started this year, but I haven't heard about it. This stuff might expand to the other parks.

Probably the reason why this is starting is because you have a former Disney guy working for Cedar Fair now.

I could see that extra $5 raking in a surprising amount of dough, and even if it doesn't straight up and it's just a loss leader it's still like instant guest satisfaction and leaves more money in their wallets to spend during the day on high profit margin soft drinks, souvenirs and games. In the end it's a really good program.

I'm sure something will be worked out for Season Pass holders, probably along the lines of a significant discount at one or more food stands for designated meal deals.

I think its smart. $5 for a meal (probably not an expensive one) will cover cost, but more importantly it will get more people to eat in the park overall. It's the McDonalds effect, decrease price in order to up the volume of orders.

$5 for a meal + snack at a theme park, why not get it? That's about the same price at any fast food place for a value meal if you leave the park for lunch, not bad at all. About the same price as a soda at Cedar Point.
