Six Flags Georgia floods again

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

AUSTELL, Ga. (AP) - Heavy rains Sunday night left Six Flags Over Georgia submerged in standing water Monday - but officials say the apparent flooding won't affect park hours.

Six Flags spokeswoman Kendell Kelton.says officials aren't sure how much standing water is in the park, though broadcast reports Monday showed a roller coaster surrounded by what appeared to be several feet of water.

Kelton says there is no damage and that the park has endured flooding on its back side, which is by the Chattahoochie River, for decades.

She says the park is open only on weekends until May 22 . She says the park expects to be open this weekend.

Thought was worth posting since my friends were going to go there last weekend but ended up going to Louisiana instead. Road trip!

Sometimes I wonder if it's more worth it for them to just leave the area, take the rides and leave.

Normally they dont close unless the flooding is severe. It's always the same parts of the park that flood and the park knows that, so all the rides there are built with flooding in mind. Basically everything from Mindbender around to GASM are flood prone. For Instance, DV which was built in that area had it's electronics room on stilts to keep it high and dry.

Couldn't they build some sort of a whateve ryou call it to prevent water from coming in? If this happened when the park was open daily they'd lose out.

^It's a risk in building near a river on cheap property.

To whoever mentioned building a giant levee, that is actually a pretty good idea.

^Pretty sure that failed in New Orleans years ago..

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

Yes, the New Orleans levee did fail a few years ago, due to it being unstable, and the unexpected ferocity of the storm.

SFNO was just doomed from the start. Location was lousy any way you looked at it. Too far from tourism.
