SFMM March 24

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby BP317 on March 24th, 2009, 9:40 pm
So I took the trek from OC to Valencia today, and way too long later I was at the gates of SFMM.

-Rode every coaster once, DejaVu 8x.

-Park was pretty empty except X2 which had an hour wait. All of the rides in the park were open except Rapids and Tidal Wave which both were stripped for rehab and Sky Tower was down for "winds" (there were some winds, but it didnt look like it was gonna open anyway. X2s flames were on). Many of the coasters were running 1 train but didnt matter because they werent filling the trains (except Colossus 1/4 trains with a bit of a wait, that sucked).

-Much like Great Adventure the place was really clean from a litter standpoint, but definitley has the typical SF cosmetic issues. X, Viper, Ninja, Revolution, DejaVu all looked GREAT with their shiny new paint but many other things still havent touched in years. The bathrooms need to be re-done badly, they are like nasty truck stops in Utah and the garbage cans need to be replaced...they were pretty much gross.

-X2 is a GREAT addition, knowing it needed the new trains whoevers idea it was to retheme it this way needs a raise. They also integrated the ad's in the queue line really well on the TVs where they have people doing stunts and falling on their a** (with "Break.com" on the bottom of the screen etc). Very good use of SF TV. The theming in the station is really cool too with the voices saying "Is everybody in!?" and the "X2" whispers echoing throughout. The soundtrack didnt work right on my ride, was cutting in and out, but it worked fine before I got on (heard it from the queue). The flamethrower effect was awesome.

-I know Onyxhotel will be wondering about this....DejaVu was open, I rode it 8 times, didnt have any downtimes, tracked smoother than SFGAms, and looked great with its new paint.

Sounds like a nice park, ill have to check it out sometime. Plus, its got a Deja Vu, thats enough to get me to go right there! I can only visit Great America and ride the same rides so many times before i get bored. Time to hit up all the other parks in the country

They have the lockers right before the stairs that lead up to the station opposed to at the front of the lines, then the exit path connects to the locker area.

Why was Colossus only 1/4 of a train? How many trains did X have? That's why I don't really care to go on Deja Vu at Magic Mountain. They are going to put you where they want to put you. SFOG was the same way. You can't even ask to go in a certain location. As the company's standpoint, they don't want to try to figure out where people want to go. They just want to put you in any spot possible. Some workers are very slow (talking) lining people up while others were fast.

In my opinion, the A seats are terrible. You don't feel like you are going to fall out except front row because of the metal in front of you that acts like a protection. It's kind of amazing to me how on Mr. Freeze they don't tell you where to go (with ONLY 20 seats per train compared to 32), but Deja Vu they do?? I'm not one for being forced to being put in a certain seat for rides. If you want to go in the back, you should be able to go in the back just like Viper has a line just for the back. I'm okay with Big Thunder because it doesn't matter, but on Superman it's completely different with that loop sitting in the back, or in the front. The same thing goes for Demon. You get airtime on the back of that train, and in the front, you get nothing.

For V2, do you like the spiral better, or the part where it just goes straight up. Some rides I could careless about seating arrangements, but other rides to me it matters and because they force people to choose this row or not this row, it's not helpful for what the customer wants, and you can make them mad. Back to Deja Vu, I know for sure there are 2 people (couples) that want to sit next to each other. They don't want to sit apart from each other (on the ends).

Theyre different parks, SF doesnt tell them "you have to assign seats" its the parks operations managers that decide that stuff.

I agree, hence why if im grouped to an a seat I ask the group next to me if they want to switch and they almost always say yes.

Did you notice that the Tunnel for their monorail is boarded up? I'm not sure if it still is, but last June it was and the pathway to the entrance was also boarded off.

How did you like X2? You were lucky enough not to wait 3 hours for it in 95 degrees like I did..not to mention the super annoying X2 commercials and videos in the queue line.

thats pretty much how the park looked when i was there about month ago, and with the assigned seating thing, they wanted to put me in the middle of the train on X2 but i had to ride in the front so i just went to the front instead, infact i did that for all 3 times i rode it and they didnt care at all

Yeah, I would have asked that...anyway, I always say I will not look at Deja Vu and then I do and... :( So, can someone offer me a job in Southern California so I can move there this summer? Anyone?

I was looking at this picture (the first one Deja Vu), and it looks like they have new harnesses on this ride. Also, the back rests look completely different than what ours used to be. The plastic even looks darker green than what our rides was.

The ride is just out of rehab and they replaced many parts of the train, the new parts arent the same color. Actually with previous rehabs DejaVu had at one point some of the restraints were black and some were green, now theyre all black.

I remember in 2006 when SFGAm's was going through extensive rehab one of the reasons it took so long for it to open for the season was they were waiting on a company to make the green foam padding for the restraints. because they had ripped them apart to redo the inside of them.
