Six Flags, another partnership in Qatar

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby bigb7965 on December 4th, 2008, 4:27 pm
Six Flags Inc. has announced their latest partnership - this time with Oryx Holdings - for a new location in Qatar, located in the middle east. The location will be part of Qatar Entertainment City, a massive urban entertainment development and is expected to open mid-2012.

Under the binding agreement, Six Flags will provide concept development and planning services to Oryx Holdings for the creation of a 50,000 square meter (500,000 square ft) Six Flags branded location within QEC. Once this initial phase is finalized, Six Flags and Oryx Holdings will collaborate on the detailed design, development, construction and management of the branded location

Just remember (posting this before someone blurts out "why is six flags doing this when there broke") this is not SIX FLAGS building a park, this is six flags getting rights to SLAP there name and IDEA onto someone elses park.

nice to see six flags is atleast trying to get the name out there over sea's

^I'll set the over/under on people who look past your post and start throwing a hissyfit about SF throwing money around at 4.

As has been said above, this is nothing but pure profit for SF.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I read somewhere that It's going to be Indoors/Outdoors.

Also, they are in talks with Korea, India, and China to build Six Flags Parks there. I hope the parks work out better than Hong Kong Disneyland.

I just don't see why any company would want to partner up with as troubled a company as Six Flags

Actually, thats kinda the reason why so many companies are teaming up with Six Flags.

Fact 1: Six Flags is a Pretty Well name that Joe Public around the world would most likely know.
Fact 2: Six Flags is 2.4 Billion Dollars in Debt and Not As financially strong of a Company as Disney/ Universal/ Busch/ Legoland/ SeaWorld Etc.

So they're able to get naming rights for ALOT less than if they went with Disney for example.

Just a Guess.

Your guess is exactly correct! Almost Anywhere you say the name Six Flags, someone is gonna know what that is, almost anyone.

Because Six Flags is in so much debt, they cannot afford to ask for big costs for naming and suggestion rights, there for, Six Flags is the best bet, and by time Six Flags gets out of debt and becomes a major attraction again, these other parks will be major and profitable that they could afford to DROP the Six Flags Name and come up with something of there own, if SF were to raise there franchise Costs.

So your correct on the fact that they chose Six Flags because the company is down, and so will there Franchise Fee's!

So let me understand something there. Since the company is in debt they are not going to ask for top dollar for a partnership agreement? Sorry to say but that is the most asinine argument someone could come up with.

"Yeah, we are in debt up to our asses, so we are going to try to make some kind of cheap marketing deal with you, because we are in debt, and while the agreement will be nothing but profit, we still want to be in debt."

Sure thing.

I like how in that new interview about international expansion he said basically that a ride like Kingda Ka (20+ million cost) does not give you a return on your investment and you will not be seeing those type of rides from Six Flags anymore. It is true. For the amount of money they spent at Great Adventure and Magic Mountain over the last few years they could have added 5X more smaller, just as decent rides/flats to other parks who also need it. I don't think Cedar Fair is even that dumb anymore but the costs for a ride like Diamondback are ridiculous.

Ok fine, Whats your explination for all these International Six Flags Parks and The Wii Six Flags Fun Park Game while as Disney hasn't been contracted anywhere (And Their latest Park Hong Kong Disneyland has yet to meet Attendance Goals)?

Well Disney isnt hurting for money, and they aren't going to let anyone use their name unless they are 100% sure that whatever bears the Disney name is absolute top quality, so rather than hassle with that and possibly end up with a park that gives the Disney name a bad name, they go ahead and do everything themselves to their own specifications, absolutely no franchising.

Now Six Flags really doesn't have any sort of reputation to uphold, at least not one they care to uphold, and they really need money badly, so they really don't care who uses their name and what the final product is, as long as they see some $$ come out of it.
