Coney Island's Astroland will have its last day this Sunday. Then it's over for the iconic amusement park, according to reports out this afternoon. A deal couldn't be reached by 1 p.m. today between Astroland's operator and its landlord Joseph Sitt, who has big plans for the area (if the city doesn't get its way first).
Yeah, I was thinking the Six Flags one too at first. It's sad to see it come to an end. It's bad in the sense of what the Cyclone has done for the amusement park industry and in what that park stood for in terms of New York City and it's recreation history. On the up side, it's for the better. That park is in a REALLY crappy part of town and it wasn't being treated in a manner that would be worth keeping up and running. I went back in 2002, not to ride rides since we didn't have time, but to check it out, and it was a dump.....

Cyclone is a protected national historic landmark, they cant touch it no matter what happens. It will open as usual on Easter Sunday next year. Same thing for Wonder Wheel, but I dont think Dino's WonderWheel Park is closing, and ditto for Stillwill St. Amusements.

that was astroworld
No actually, it is AstroLAND. I disagree with Tony. I think although the park is a bit old, it still has nostalgia that a lot of other parks don't have. The sideshows, Nathans hotdogs, boardwalk, and the old fashioned B&B carousel was something else. And of course, the legendary cyclone. I really wish they could rehab the park without putting up condos and modernizing the park. If you read about Coney Island's history, I think you'll find it quite interesting.

There is no doubt at all, it's definitely a nostalgic place and it definitely had a special ambience that will not soon be forgotten. However, in terms of it's clientel and maintenance, you can't argue that it wasn't run down, becoming rather abused, and reaching its closing point. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather see it restored to its original self than destroyed, but I still think this is better than letting it continue on its downward spiral (keep in mind I haven't been there in 6 years though).

I no we are talking about Astroland but I am going to tell you somthing from AstroWorld that I got today. So, I get home from school and go inside my house and my mom comes running to the door were I am standing. She says "look what I got for you" and then runs into the other room. When see comes back she has this coffee mug that says Six Flags AstroWorld on it. She found it at a garage sale that see was at today and sense I collect cups like this I was happy. I was so happy, but I thought I would just say this sense we are kinda talking about the park. Sorry I no that this is off topic but I am so happy I had to share it with you guys!
