Hurricane Harbor 2009

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby sfgam1 on August 20th, 2008, 4:33 pm
I had gotten an email from six flags saying whats going on on labor day weekend and in it said:
Enjoy the last days of summer at Hurricane Harbor! Bring your your summer to a memorable end with your last FREE splash at the best water park in the nation. Hurricane Harbor is open daily through August 24 and your last chance to visit is Labor Day Weekend, August 30 - September 1.
It said last FREE splash at the best water park in the ntion. Could that mean that we may have to pay for waterpark admission for the 2009 season?

I commented in another thread that I overheard two ride mechanics talking about this very thing last Sunday.

Sounds like starting in '09 HH will be a separate gated attraction although supposedly there is some expansion planned.

I wouldn't be shocked if the SSA spot is an expansion of HH with a main parking lot entrance. What I think they'll do is charge an fee for those people who just want to spend the day at HH. The only way you can do that now is if you pay for a park admission. With this, people who just want to be at the water park all day would enter from the parking lot, pay like $25 or something along those lines and spend the day at the water park, while keeping the entrance by Viper for those who want to visit both parks. They'd make more money this way.

How would they know if the people that come in from the parking lot go to the normal park through the waterpark for cheaper admission?

Wristbands. Tickets that they have to show employees if they're trying to enter the park, etc. It's not like it can't be done.

I think it is a great idea to make a seperate admission, but I still don't want them to do it.

I usually only went to HH to go to Skull Island or go get a tan. I hardly went on the slides because the lines were so long, I liked to relax at HH and well if this does happen, my days to HH will end. I hardly go over there but when I do go those are the only things I do.

Some people like me feel like HH is too crowded most of the time anyway. I would never want to spend a whole day at the pool. I never visited HH yet and wouldn't cry over it becoming separate entrance. It's done at so many Six Flags parks and it was only a matter of time.

i just hope, they reduce the $56 ticket if there gonna seperate admission. Because otherwise, we are gonna be screwed with a $56 theme ticket, a $29 water park ticket or a $70 combo ticket! which will be another way for them to suck more money out of us.

I personally only went to hurricane harbor once or twice but its to crowded, so i would not mind if there was 2 different admission prices

^ I hope the theme park admission goes down because $56 just for the themepark is just to much.

/\ $56 isn't all that bad, especially when there are coupons for $15 off, this being at the beginning of the season. The reason for lowering prices is to make the park more appealing with the high gas prices. It gives people more reason to go to the park when they see they lowered the ticket prices. At least they didn't go the way Disney did by rising prices again to something like $73 for a one day base ticket.

Second, I don't mind if they separate the parks, I hope they do. They can make it $35 to enter the water park, $40 for the theme park and $65 for both and make it seem like its a good deal. I'm sure they'll have passes raise in price too if this happens, or maybe 3 different passes. A park only, water park only and a combo pass which I'm sure will take that $120 price tag that it was to have when the water park first opened.

In 2006 Shapiro said "We need to do more things like how Chicago has the waterpark included with park admission, value like that are the direction we want the company to head in."

Yea...I totally agree here. You guys are reading WAY too much into the wording. They always advertise HH as FREE. And labor day is the LAST time to go this year.

If this is true it will hurt SF greatly who want's to pay $55 to go to the water park when they can go to this
http://www.ragingwaves.com/rates.html and pay $27 to go. You can never tell what Six Flags will do.

If you think about it sure probably will make it a separate gate so that they can lower the price of Hurricane Harbor for those FAMILY'S that spend their whole day at HH. They do not want to spend close to 60 dollars just to go to a sub par water park. So if they charge 30 to get admission just to HH more people will go there. Yes that will mean more people will go there but from what I can see they are going to expand HH so that they can allow more people into it. They will probably keep the normal gate admission around 60 dollars but then you can still go to both parks. Hopefully they lower the price for people that just want to go to the theme park.
