Viper Queues

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I was just looking at some old pictures and became curious. When did the "rat mazes" in the Viper queue get removed? Or are they still there and I am imagining they got removed? Can someone fill me in? :) Thanks

I'm guessing when they put in HH. But I have no idea what you're talking about.

Either the year before HH or the year HH came.

Viper's queues were removed before the 2005 season to make room for the entrance to Hurricane Harbor.

See, I also thought that they may have been removed for HH but if you look in this picture they are on the other side of the line.

Yes, I know that was in 2004 but what I am saying is that it doesn't look like they would be in the way of HH's entrance/line at all.

IT was most likely due to lack of riders. They probably felt it wasnt necesary to keep the queues and soda machines so they removed them.

It wasnt due to lack of riders at all, they wanted HH's entrance to be in SWT so they could add games along the midway leading up to it. Vipers main queue path was moved a bit to the left in order to fit HH's path which meant there was no more space for those extra queues. Now that Viper uses a grouper pretty much every day, Viper needs those extra queues badly as when it the line is back to the entrance its still only a 20 minute wait, and all the coaster queues are designed to hold about an hours worth of line when their full. Now when its really crowded, the grouper has to let a lot of people in the station so the line doesnt stretch way too far out onto the midway, which totally defeats the purpose of him being there (to stop 'the mob' from hapenning).

^^ If lack of riders alone was enough reason for them to completely remove queues, then why does Eagle still have all those queues under the tent. I have never seen more than 4 in use and even that is rare.

I'm all for removing the queues in Eagle because I think they are a waste of space. But I wish they would somehow keep the current entrance way (with the eagle on top of the shelter and the flags leading up to the entrance)if the rumored kids section in that area is true.
And yes. Viper does need more queues because on crowded days the wait time can be misleading because the queue is out to the entrance.

Yeah, Vipers queues were removed to reroute the line for HH's enterance, did that winter of 04/05.

The Groupers purpose is to keep the absolutely massive station from filling up and causing an extra 20-30 mins of wait that hides in the station with no grouper and also Vipers station when full is basically a mass of confusion, really has nothing to do with keeping people off the midway.

^ If they wanted to, the tent area could easily hold 2 regular flats. But I don't think that is what's going to happen there

Well, I did some searching of my picture archive, and found these pictures of Viper's queue over the years. All but one was taken from Sky Treck Tower. Also, the one from 1988 is not to good, but figured I would post it anyway to show how the area, and the queue (what you can see of it) has changed over the years.

First, from 1998.
