Six Flags to get new sign after 30 years

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby twixmix0303 on September 14th, 2006, 2:08 pm
Daily Herald: http://www.dailyherald.com/news/lakesto ... c=l&tc=&t=

The print edition had a rendering of what the new sign will look like. The white base will be the same, just the top will be different. It will be squared on the bottom and curved on top, with the Bugs Bunny logo (it will not include the 45th ribbon like some newspapers reported) and the words "& Hurricane Harbor Waterpark" printed underneath "Six Flags Great America." That portion of the sign will be backlit. Underneath will be an LCD and underneath that will be two backlit signs for advertisers. In the newspaper, it had the American Airlines logo with the words "Official Airline of Six Flags" and the Starbucks logo. Hmm...I wonder if that means anything? The sign will be up before year's end as it is in this year's budget.

I still like the old sign. They just need to fix it up alittle and get rid of the Time-Warner era logo and it will be good again.

Looks cool. I guess Bug is a part of the SF logo now. I just thought he was around for the 45th anniversery.

Thanks for scanning that in. I don't have a subscription to the Daily Herald, it was actually my friend's copy and when I saw that picture I grabbed it out of his hands. :)

The AA and Starbucks ads ruin it but otherwise it looks OK.

They getting in the paper about SFGAM getting a new sign just shows how much of the need is for a new sign. The two small adverting at the bottom, most likely were Shapiro’s Idea. They are fairly small and it’s not that big of a deal. He is just trying to be like other Entertainment venues that have their sponsors put on the sign.

I like this sign. It looks like a good update to the park. The old one is kind of dull, and it will definetly be an eye opener.

Those two sponsors are probably paying for the sign. You should be happy. I would imagine that the park was looking for companies to sponsor it, and that's why it took them so long to put it up (even though it's not up now.) When they got the sponsors, they could put it up. If they had the budget before, why wait so long??? :?

It looks cool, I'm still a fan of the Kings Island sign, but this is definitely a needed addition! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Those ads helped to pay for the sign itself, Excellent idea... Why not have some advertisers pay for things.

Also its interesting that American Airlines is the official airline of Six Flags, hopefully they can make some family package deals like Disney offers with Delta and Southwest.

I hope it looks better than in that newspaper article, but hopefully the new screen will actually have updated information when things change like park hours..its not about what kind of sign you have, its about having the employees which will maintain it. I understand the old sign was messed up and all, but i hope Great America actually uses the sign as much as they say they will.

This is EXACTLY what the park needed. I made a post several months ago on this topic, and my wish is being granted. The old sign looked terrible this year, without the reader board working, and the new sign looks WAY cool. I have been going to the park since it opened, and am thankful management finally saw that this old sign needed replacement! :D :D :D :D
We should all remember to be thankful to have a world-class theme park like Six Flags Great America here in our local area!

I say more power to them, a new sign would be great advertisement purposes. Its kind of sad though, I kinda liked the old one.

The fact that it has a LED screen makes the capabilities for what is put on there endless, unlike the old burnt out lightbulb system.

And very easy to maintain!

Drove by the park today...actually snooped around for a while but that's beside the point...Still nothing to report on the highway sign front. I was surprised, considering it's supposedly in this year's budget and you'd think the time for vactions would be fast approaching. Time to get going Six Flags!

I kind of like the old sign, but they may as well get it replaced. It's not worth paying high maintenance fees anymore.

The sign came down today. So in the next week or so the new one should be installed.
