CEDAR POINT ANNOUNCES DETAILS ON NEW ROLLER COASTER; MAVERICK WILL RUSTLE UP RIDERS IN 2007
SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2006 – Cedar Point will take guests to a new frontier in 2007. The historic amusement park/resort has announced plans for a new roller coaster for next summer named Maverick. Located in Frontiertown, Maverick will treat riders to multiple terrain-hugging elements that have never been experienced on a Cedar Point roller coaster.
Guests will begin their adventurous journey on Maverick by boarding steam-era-styled coaster trains with an ultra-sleek profile that will carry them along the 4,450-foot-long course. Linear synchronous motors will propel the train to the top of a 105-foot-tall first hill. From there, it's not straight down – it's more than straight down! Maverick will take its passengers down to Earth at an astonishing 95-degree angle at speeds of up to 57 mph to within five feet above the ground! From there, the train will hug the terrain as it twists and banks around hairpin turns with quick but smooth changes in direction. Throughout the 2-minute, 30-second ride, passengers will also experience eight "airtime-filled hills," three inversions and a second launch through a dark tunnel that will leave them in awe as they reach speeds of 70 mph!
Situated on 5.5 acres between the Mean Streak roller coaster and Thunder Canyon water ride, Maverick will be Cedar Point's 17th coaster, more scream machines than any park in the world. Maverick will cost approximately $21 million to build, making it one of the single largest investments in the park's 137-year history.
"Maverick represents a new brand of roller coaster," said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "It is only right that it be built at the Roller Coaster Capital of the World – Cedar Point."
At the end of the 2005 season, the former White Water Landing ride was demolished and removed from the park – although the ride's station remained for use with Maverick's queue line. Throughout the winter and spring of 2006, construction crews prepared and poured footers for Maverick, even before the park opened for the season. Speculation grew throughout the summer as to what Cedar Point was planning for the future. Up until this time, "On-Point!" – the official Cedar Point online web log, has only teased the public and worldwide audience of coaster enthusiasts about the latest happenings at the site.
Guests who crave fun and excitement can ride Maverick when Cedar Point opens for the 2007 season in May. (Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.)
"As a coaster enthusiast, I can't wait to ride Maverick," stated Carole Sanderson, president of American Coaster Enthusiasts, a worldwide club of coaster enthusiasts. "I believe Maverick will delight its riders with many surprising elements, including its compact layout and staggered launches."
Guests will be able to follow the construction progress of Maverick at the park's Web site, http://www.cedarpoint.com. Exclusive webcams, "OnPoint!" and the FUNtimes newsletter will help keep thrill-seekers up-to-date on the happenings at the ride site throughout the construction process.

Looks like a great addition to Cedar Point, and it's not the tallest or fastest ride imagine that.
Cedar Point has really added alot to thier park by not going for record breaking coasters the past few years. MaxAir, Skyhawk and now Maverick all look like really good additions to the park.

Anyway, I think this is a great coaster for the park and I can't wait to ride it next year. It's unique and even better, it doesn't have 20 inversions and isn't record-breaking. A coaster doesn't have to have lots of inversions and/or one of the tallest and fastest to make it a good enjoyable coaster. I don't really understand the name or like it, but who really cares? It's the experience of the ride that matters. Not the name, not the height, not the speed, and definitely not the number of inversions. That's just my opinion though. All I gotta say is, I can't wait to get back to Cedar Point and ride it.

Its nice to a coaster at cedar point just based off enjoyment & fun alone rather than that & record somethings
As many of you have said, the theming is great & especially nice to see at the point. I think this ride is amazing looking because of its constant sudden changes in direction. The stengal dive looks like a brilliant element to the ride as well. & the horseshoe twist or w/e[the back to back corks] look especially cool cause from some angles it actually looks like a horseshoe. I like the layout in general. It shall be fun fun fun
The 95degree drop however looks hardly anything past vertical at all but a nice add & try as well. Hopefully itll give a kick im not expecting. Well im just rambling.
Looks like a great add to the great lineup. Only 9months to go. hehe.
Just to add if...and if....there are any of you other myspacers out there, you can get a maverick layout. Check mine out to see if you like it or just check into http://www.cedarpoint.com http://www.myspace.com/jamesanthony33 Im lame ok ok. I happen to like it very much so...
I am really excited about this coaster now! To be quite honest, i didn't expect much because i love coasters with great theming and Mystery Mine looked to be the big one for theming this year, however Maverick threw me for a loop! The canyons are awesome, the headchoppers are amazing, the banking on some of those curves, especially the 92 degreed one are outstanding, and i absolutely LOVE the waterfall/cave for the heartline roll. The LSMs up the hill into the 95 degree drop is an excellent way to start the ride and i just think it looks like a master piece! Congrats Cedar Point on building your first coaster since Millenium Force that i've looked forward to wanting to ride!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
I am not a fan of those OTSR's. They were pretty painful on Storm Runner (painful on the neck and shoulders, not head). They were especially painful at the end of Storm Runner where there are a few quick direction changes, and this ride is full of that.
Ride's like Kingda Ka however that have no quick directional changes, they are fine on though.
