First trip to SFGA need some help.

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Hallo all, I'm new member here. Me and my dad are traveling from Cincinnati OH over to Indiana. Our first stop will be Holiday World, which we've been going the last two years. Our second stop will be SixFlags Great America. Its our first time going there so we may be lost, Like what coasters to hit early and late, what food's to eat. We are what they call coaster crazy, I love the rush and thrills. The main two coasters Im looking forward to are, SuperMan Ultimate Flight, and Deja Vu. So what im asking for is some help in planning our day at Great America. Thanks to those who reply. :D

Hit up Deja Vu first thing. It doesn't open right away quite a bit, but you might want to wait a bit until it's open.

For S:UF go on it later in the day. Generally that's the first thing people head to. So it will be less crowded later in the day (if it's not a saturday).

As for food, if you want to save money, then go out of the park. But if you're staying in the park then Mooseburger Lodge and Firehouse Pizza are pretty good. However, whenever I stay in the park for food I usually get cheese fries because they can fill me up and compared to other food there I'm saving money.

def. hit up the bull and viper. v2 is really fun. pretty much in a nutshell, hit every roller coaster. if the line for Ragin' Cajun is long. its long, that line is a stand-still. iron wolf is a ruff ride, if you never rode a stand up roller coaster, i strongly recommend it, but try to get a row up near the front for a smoother ride. american eagle is a great woden roller coaster, and the blue train runs backwords. so def. hit up red and blue. other then that almost everything is fun there.

^blue doesn't go backwards anymore but don't go Blue side it's rough and you get shoved around alot. go Red side if you go on Eagle. Def hit Bull and Vu and V2, those rides are cool. Superman is sweet, Viper is a lot of fun too. all the rides are fun, Demon is a tad bit rough too as is Iron Wolf. Hit some of the flats too like Richocet and River Rocker. Have fun at Sfga

Run to Deja Vu.
If it dosen't open on time...wait it out.
Or else its around an hour wait.

Superman: Ultimate Flight you should ride at around Five O'clock.
It's dead at the front of the park at this time.

You will also really enjoy Raging Bull which the wait keeps a steady average of around a 30 Minute wait.

Have fun!

Dont eat the food in the park!!!! It is too expensive and medicore at best and the pizza is just awful!!! If you decide to eat in the park the best option IMHO is MosseburgerLodge. Also free ice water is given out at any regular food stand, so save money on soda/bottled water abd juast get cups of FREE ice water.
As for rides, if you are big fans of the Superman/DeJaVue then i would get to the park early and head straight to Superman, then if DeJaVue is open get in line for that(but beware it often isnt open when the park opens and is prone to NUMEROUS break downs.
After that i would hit Viper/Giant Drop/Raging Bull and whatever rides you like.

My way to start the day would be to get to the park by 900am at the latest. At the rope drop i would head to Raging Bull and get in 2/3 rides if the line is short than the cheat gate, then hit Ginat Drop, then Viper and after that head to Batman. After that i hit whatever strikes my fancy.

Superman sucks. Dont wait for it if you dont have to.

Batman is the best ride there. Make sure you get a night ride on it.

Hay thanks agian for those of you who replyed. So what I'm been hearing is, the parks food is expensive, just like at Kings Island  . We'll be there on the 26 this mouth, we want to ride every coaster that we can get on. SuperMan will be the first flying coast I've every been on. I really do hope that the day turns out to be good, unlike our visit last year to SFKK. The only thing we liked was Greezed Lighting, Chang and the Angus bugers, the place was crowed and under staffed. Is Batman at GA the first Inveded coaster?

If you get to the park before opening, go left when you get into the park, but skip Superman. You'll be able to walk on Rajin Cajon (if you're quick and first in line), then nearly walk on Batman, V2, Iron Wolf, American Eagle, then Demon. By this time Deja Vu might be open and you can wait that out, otherwise Raging Bull and Viper will probably have less than a half hour wait. For sure save Superman until after 4pm, the wait time will be down to around a half hour after then.

^^^ wow, i'd say to do just the opposite.

there is no firehouse pizza anymore, just Papa Johns.

like previously mentioned, superman isn't the greatest, but if you've never been on a flying coaster before, then do it.

you got a lot of good information in this topic, but maybe look back at other first time question threads, and see if anything different was mentioned. It may prove to be useful.

go both blue and red they're worth standing in a short line for which is probably what the line will be like anyway. red is better it has more drops.

make sure you ride raging bull! most people think it's the best ride there including me.

ride giant drop but if you live in cincinatti you have probably been on drop zone at kings island which is better but ride giant drop anyway just for fun.

as for demon, ride it but if you've been on vortex you know that all arrow coasters that have corksccrews are pretty rogh.

ridde every coaster it will last the whole day probably

^ Demons corkscrews really aren't that rough, the reason of why people bang they're heads is because of the banking before the first corkscrew and the fact that they leave their head flailing.
Demon is also probably less rough then vortex, because vortex is more like shockwave.

if you ride the demon all the way in the back, and if you stick your head out of the head-rest, you'll be fine

well I've been on vortex and shockwave. the corkscrews on vortex come from a drop that is completely straight.

Hay thanks again for all our insights, the best seats on Vortex are trowards the back, you get more airtime and less jerk on your neck.

I took my first trip to SFGAm last year, and let me tell you what I did. I ran to Vu both days. The first day it opened on time, and the second it was down until 10:15. Doing this first and waiting through the breakdown saved me. It went down on the first day early evening and didn't open back up. The line was also 2 and a half hours both days. I would definatley recommend doing this first. Superman's line seemed to move at least, so I didn't mind waiting for it. Raging Bull's also seemed to move, but doing this early morning seemed to help in terms of the line's length. Rajin Cajon's line got incredibly long mid-afternoon, so if you really want to do this I'd try early morning as well. I'm disappointed Blue doesn't go backwards anymore. I loved my ride on that. The backwards part really added to the intensity and excitement for me. I also really liked Vortex at KI for some reason...

Have a nice trip!

Ride Superman and Iron Wolf in front, only in front. There is something on V2 you might wanna know about, but I won't say it unless you ask. (I don't want to be a spoiler) Batman is rather rough in front and back, so I would reccomend second to back. See, the front pulls the back, so the back is the fastest, but I personally think back headbangs near the end. So second to back is fastest w/out headbangs. People say to hold your head to one side, but it makes it worse for me.

That's all. Definetly do Bull, Viper, V2, Batman, and possibly Demon or Whizzer. Plus the Superman and Vu, like you said. If it's really hot out, wait until it get cooler IF YOU CAN to try Vu. It's a really wild coaster.
Eh.......I got nothing.

^ Why ride Superman only in the front? Every seat has a view because you're all facing down.

if you ride any row on superman, it better be in the very back;
you feel like your on top of the loop for so long, and the g's
are intense as heck

SUF front row has great air-time, but back row is a little rough but is the most intense. This is a must-ride for someone that has never gone on it or even a flyer, it is a different experience. Also, BTR after 5:00 or 6:00 will have a shorter line, hit it then. Peak attandace of the park is 3:30, after 3:30 people start to leave, and after 5:00, the park USUALLY gets noticiably emptier. Also, at 9:00 is the daily fireworks, dance show and parade in Hometown Square, this attracts many families, so avoid Hometown Square if possible, but if you have to go through, just walk through. After the parade, the park is open for 45 more minutes, but the lower profile coasters (NOT Raging Bull, Deja Vu, SUF or V2) will have short lines.

Just have fun, ride as many as you can. Hopefully they are all functioning properly at the time.
