I'll be there even if it's 20 degrees below absolute zero. Maybe around nine or so. I'll be wearing a shirt, pants, and shoes. I have hair. If you see me say hi.
While last year was a complete disaster and it didn't even warm up fully until mid-late May I do expect this year to improve. 2 years in a row would really suck. Bundle up anyway.
I found out school ends May 5th, but I may not go until the 16th because I may be going to see my sister and my niece over mother's day weekend and Im quite upset about that.
Looks like I will there for opening weekend after all. I got told by my fiancee I could do a spring break trip to VA or Hard Rock Park's re-opening weekend. I chose Hard Rock.
I' must be out of the loop because I don't know the answer to this question, but is Raging Bull open right at 10, or does it open an hour late? Assuming it's operating, I'd like to make it my first ride of the season, but I wasn't sure if it was open right away or not. I didn't feel the need to make a thread about this, so I posted it here.
County Fair rides and attractions (American Eagle, Iron Wolf, Revolution, etc.) open at 11 A.M. Raging Bull is in Southwest Territory and opens at 10 so run run run when the park opens.
Thanks for the answer. One more question, maybe a tad trickier. On the GAm website, it says you can bring a friend for free on any weekday through June 26. So on opening day, couldn't I go into the park to get my coupon book, then exit the park and come back in so I could bring my friend for free?
The way it works is you are given selected days to bring a friend in for free not any day you want. For example last year I had something like May 13th, June 6th-9th, June 17th, etc. You are told when you can bring someone in for free. You can't just do it whenever you want. Natch I know.
^Well, I figured I can't do it whenever, but it specifies that they can come for free ANY WEEKDAY through June 26. Maybe it's just me mis-reading it, but it sure sounds like any day Monday-Friday you can bring someone until that date. Hence me asking if opening day would count, as it's a weekday before June 26.
Yeah, it if says any weekday, I don't see a reason why you couldn't go into the park, get the coupon, go out and get your friend in.
And I'll be at opening day, though my tentative plan gets me to Gurnee Mills around 10:30 after SFGAm fails to open after that probably go bowling at Bertrands in Waukegan not far from the park
Not have a totally wasted day off of work

So this must be a new thing for 2009 since they would never have offered it for so far in advance until the end of June. Why do it that way I don't know how they are supposed to make money that way...

This made me lol, I also have a plan for that day/evening (heading downtown once SFGAm closes to hit up the admirial theater)
But the real question is, what will you do if they do open?
^ Lack of attendance would be one. Weather is of course a factor in all this, as it can either be really nice, raining, or even snowing!
So, keep it in the back of your mind that the possibility exists that the park won't open that day, and if it does, be ready for it to close at a moments notice. While I cannot say for sure if the park will open, or if it will close early, I'm just trying to think ahead and plan for it should they decide to go that way.
The thing that keeps going through my mind today is that we are just over 5 weeks away...yet, there is snow on the ground, and the high's during the day are just around 35 degrees. A lot can happen in 5 weeks, so we will have to see what mother nature throws at us.
So I found out when my finals are over, my last final is may 1st but I have to drive home and such and will be too tired to attend May 2nd, hopefully May 9th will still be my first day but I won't know until then. I can never go opening day due to school, I know it's nothing really special but I would like to go sometime.
Well if for whatever reason the park opens and stays open, then I'd stay til I freeze my ass off, then my other plan goes into effect. Seeing as there will be absolutely no one there, I'll probably have been on every ride by 11 or noon and will have no incentive to hang around.
If it's one of those random really nice days, I might hang around.
The possibility of this is so remote though that I'm not even really considering it.
And that is the reason the bring a friend free days are so early, cause the park knows damn well no one will be there as everyone in Chicago knows that SFGAm doesn't open til late April or early may, and no one will even think of going the first week of April, let alone a weekday. If they advertise the hell out of the fact that they are opening on April 4 maybe they will get some people, but for that it'd have to be around the clock radio and TV advertising, basically a 30 second spot of a really really loud voice saying "SIX FLAGS WILL OPEN FRIDAY APRIL 4!!!!" with the same thing in big block letters in the background of the commercial.

I'm almost thinking about re-considering going. I live 3 hours away, and last season I drove up only for the park to be closed. I'd hate to drive up there again only for it to close or be closed...
