Ever notice how V2 seems to sway when its open? Im not talking just a little bit either. But sometimes the track seems to sway a good id estimate 20 feet. Its enough to look at it and get a little nervous. Is this good for a ride to do? i mean id be kinda leary if i saw it sway like that. Maybe im just illusioning things.
Yep, If it didn't sway, it would snap like a toothpick. Its designed to sway with the wind so the pressure doesn't build up and break the whole thing. The same concept is used in bridges and skyscrapers. On a windy day in the Sears Tower, the water in the toilets will swish around as the building sways. That would be kinda freaky.
Not only does it sway in the wind, it sways when the train rockets up either side.Aero is quite right, it is designed to sway, or it would indeed snap off.I doubt it's 20 ft. though. More like 5-10. It just appears to be swaying that much because its very large and we can see it moving from quite a distance away.
Find it fun?! LOL. I kind of get a little nervous, but then I think about it and know that it was professionally designed to sway. BTW, I think I brought this up about 5-6 months ago. Oh well
if you caught that extreme thrill rides 2003 there was another ride on there that swayed even more than v2.....im not afriad of the swaying on v2, but that bungee ride looked kinda freaky.

Xcelerator used to sway more then V2, as a matter of fact it used to sway too much. So they added some extra support. The added support must have helped alot, because when I was at KBF in August I didn't really notice Xcelerator sway at all.
I can't see Xcellerator swaying too much in my mind. I would think that the top had would add enough rigidness to the structure to keep it from swaying. (Like if you roll a long sheet of paper and bend it into an arc, it doesn't bend well)
A little story:"Ready fpr launch."said the recording "Screams of joy." "O S%$#." said a ride opp. "Crack" the track broke off. "Screams for life." "Whoosh," the train flew off the track. A loud "splash" with alot of "screams" and "sirens" in the backround.
ROFL! Wow, that was random. I don't think that will ever happen, and even if it did the Ebrakes would probably kick in (Sensors all up and down the tower, and if the circuit is lost the ride stops, I assume). But the ride was probably designed to endure winds of well over 100 mph, which arn't that rare in midwest thunderstorms (Late June/Early July).
The only thing that i would think Aero is when you play RCT and you set the launch speed on an Impulsive Roller Coaster to like 74 MPH and it flies off the track... LMAO Kinda the same senerio that PlaneA380 invisioned i suppose.
Didnt Wicked Twister start to crack? Then they added some extra supports on each tower and dont run it at the normal speed? Thats what I heard. I think I read an article about it too but Im not sure.
That isn't from wind. The cracks are from a fast launch and inadequate supports. I don't believe the wind had anything to do with that. Kinda like DeJaVu, they both got stress fractures from the immense load put on the structure/track.
I want you to think. Think REALLY hard. Has there EVER, EVER been a roller coaster accident because of the coaster?! (not because of operators, or humans acting dumb) (after 1990 I mean, because im sure there have been many OTHER accidents that happened in the past...but they didn't have good research back than!)
Yes, there have been plenty of accidents that didn't involve dumb guests or operator errors. Most recently that I can remember, Steel Dragon 2000 in Japan lost a wheel. Then along time ago Demon got stuck upside down at SFGAm. There have also been alot of collisions between two trains on coasters in the past, but im not going to name them all. But yes, things do go wrong on coasters every once in awhile.
Dave, its funny you mention the Demon incident, a Girl that i graduated High School with was awarded $70,000 from Six Flags following that Demon incident, She apperently was upside down for 2 hours

Galvan.I seriously doubt she got $700,000 considering the lawsuit was settled out of court for $442,000 which was split between all the individuals on that train stuck upsidedown.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
Actually, your right on that a little typo she actually got $70,000 which is 35,000 dollars an hour not bad except she was hung upside down for 2 hours. Anyway i dont really talk to her or care anyway.
