*I have never opened a topic before, so I am just going to quickly say that I am in no way talking about this, and asking the questions I have, to start any sort of trouble. I am just looking to figure out if what happened to me has happened to anyone else and if I am a total moron for being as freaked out as I am. *
This past Monday I had my scariest expericence ever at the park. Okay, so it started out like it was going to be a normal ride on Raging Bull. I sat down, and was secured in as usual. The ride ops checked my restrant and everything. Then I kind of lifted my hips up briefly to adjust the back of my jeans. When I did that, the restraint popped open suddenly. And it wouldn't budge to come back down. I had to yell out to the ride ops for them to release it again so I could resecure myself. (we were still obviously in the station.)
Okay, so then we were all set to go. We got half way up the hill when the damned thing popped again. This time I, along with my cousin's friend, caught it before it locked in the upright position, and were able to click it back into place. Before anyonse asks, no I wasn't doing anything to cause it to open the second time. I was just sitting there holding on so hard my hands hurt. And no, I am not too overweight to ride it. While I am a slightly big girl, I am nowhere near big enough to not fit on a ride. I have ridden Raging Bull more times than I can count. Probably close to 10 times already this season. As I was saying : The feeling that I got during those few seconds were just plain horrible. While typing it out and thinking about it, right now, I am getting freaked out all over again. Raging Bull has always been one of my favorite coasters, but now I am a little too scared to get back on it right away.
The point of me sharing this? I have a question. For some reason I thought that if any restraint was open the ride wouldn't be able to go. I also, for some reason, thought that if a restraint opened while going up the hill or while on one of the breaking points, that the ride would stop. Is this true?
ALSO, not too long before I got on, they ran 3 or 4 cars totally empty. Could one situation have anything to do with the other? Could there have been some electrical error they thought was corrected that wasn't? When I got off the ride I very briefly mentioned to a ride op what happened, and the response I got was "yeah, okay". I swear with everything that I am not making this up.
Does anyone here either know the answers to some of my questions or have an educated guess? If not, I don't want to be the cause for some horrible off topic conversation or arguement, and do not want to have a locked topic caused by me. So, if anyone is going to just sit here and call me a liar or aggressivly argue back and forth about it, then I'd prefer the post gets deleted.
Thank you guys for your time, and for any answers anyone may have.
Erin
When they were testing, was that train on the track before? Peoples reatraints pop up a click or two sometimes. It just means, that it wasnt far enough to keep it secure, like it barely made it.
That's ironic because pretty much the same thing is on viper. In the third row of one of the trains on viper the right seat's restraint pops up when you ride this happened to my sister and then it happened again to me a few weeks later.
You see I like the cubs and the white sox. If it came down to the world series I'd pick the cubs.
Actually, that has happened to me before on RB and on several rides including Dejavu and Batman. I contribute this to my build and not having the restraint system all the way locked or clicked or whatever you want to call it. It is kinda scary however, I have found that when this does happen remain calm and just return the restiant back to its original place. And hold on.
Freaking out, makes you panic which causes accidents.
Something was wrong that day considering that other rows were closed off. This is why we don't want robotss serving us Mcdonald's food. Machines act up all the time. They should probably put seatbelts on that rc.

I had my lap bar pop up on Viper a few weeks ago when the ride just got out of the station and was turning towards the lift hill. I just pushed it back down and that was the end of the problem.
Wow and yet another story of a restraint that could have been fatal. I've heard these horror stories from the Vekoma Boomerangs and SLCs. I didn't believe them, but the more I hear, the more I have to.

Theres a huge difference the inthe restraints though, from what I hear PTC restraits come up often but this is the first tiem I've ever heard of a B&M restraint failing.
Scary thought

Iv'e seen that happen twice on Demon. Once to me two years ago and once to my uncle about six years ago. I only have to say one thing if that happens to you, hold on for your life.
My uncle was on Demon last year, he was trying to get his restraint down another click on the lift, then, he could lift his restraint all the way up. He was holding on for his life.
This has been known to happen before, but people usually could just pull the restraint back.
If my restraint popped open after the train had already been secured, I would have gotten off the train. Seriously, that should not happen.
I'm not sure how well this could work, but if your restraint does pop open on Raging Bull, hold onto under your seat and pray. And tell someone next to you so maybe they could help secure you.
Scary thought to ponder, but good thing you're alright.
I think on every coaster but Raging Bull I would put it down and pray, but on Bull if we were on the lift hill I might jump off the train just the all the airtime on that ride and nothing to hold on too.

I'm hoping so, otherwise he would be admitting suicide. I think the reason the bar didn't come down in the station is sometimes before they release the restraints, if I recall correctly, don't they sit in the open position? Then they hit the button and they are released down. Maybe someone had to exit the train, his hadn't been down yet and he pulled it at the wrong time, so it was in the locked open position? I don't know if anyone understood that or not . . . oh well.
I believe that once the train leaves the station, the clamshell restraint can't lock into the open position. You probably had nothing to worry about except to pull it back down.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
But, it did open. What if it opened while on the actual ride. Like on an airtime hill? It wouldn't be that easy to shut it right away. I thought the restraints were fail-safe.
What you all said did help me kinda get a better handle on the situation etc. Now someone (I don't recall who and am too lazy to scroll back and see who it was ) mentioned jumping off onto the stairs on the lift hill. I debated doing that for about 2 seconds. If I had been in the end seat, I actually would have. Kinda tucked and rolled, and prayed that I landed on the stairs. If I didn't have someone next to me to help me out. Luckily for me I had my cousin's friend sitting next to me, and she was pushing down on my lapbar with all her might.
And obviously, I am fine. I am just kind of concerned that this could happen to someone else. And they might not be as lucky.
While I was on the ride and this was happening, I told myself to just remain calm, hold on, and hope for the best. I realized that freaking out at the time wouldn't help matters - that it could have made it worse. It was after I was already off the ride that I freaked out totally. (which is stupid - I know, but that's how I always seem to handle things. I remain calm while crap is hitting the fan, but once it starts to triclke down I freak..lol) But not everyone is like that. If this were to have happened to someone who freaked out on the ride and didn't have someone there to help them, they could be tossed right out of the ride. Which is a scary thought.
Don't you guys think that some sort of back up devise (ie seat belt) should be on Raging Bull? It seems to me that if AE and Viper have them, that Raging Bull should too. It's strange - the thought of having backups on RB never crossed my mind until Monday night. Erin
Why Timmy179? Instead, of having fallen out possibly, you would be maybe bruised on the stairs. The problem with RB is that the coaster is just a seat and a clamshell. It is not like the Demon where you actually have the car surrounding you. I don't know if a seatbelt would hold because it is open, maybe or maybe not. However, it might help a lot.
RedOne3781, I would definitely CONTACT the park about this promptly so they can help the situation. From my standpoint, I don't think anyone would send them or tell them a comment about something that serious unless it was true. So in other words, they will believe you.
I guess it's more important to fix that than Viper because you are in a car, and D Vu you have the harness connected to the seatbelt along with another one. They both have back-ups.
