I think they are planning to get rid of Iron Wolf

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby highroller13 on July 11th, 2004, 2:51 pm
In recent years I have noticed that Iron wolf has not had anything done to it. It needs new trains, and a paint job. The line is never that long so I think six flags is going to let it go in '05 or '06. I personally love the ride and would hate to see it go, but I think six flags is not going to put anymore money into it and take it down. It is B&M first coaster, and first Stand up coaster and they didn't do a good job because of the speed that you go into the corkscrew.

(THIS IS NOT A RUMOR, IT'S A PREDICTION BASED ON FACTS.)

Please tell me I'm wrong.

Every time I go to SFGAm Iron Wolf has a decent size wait. Although I think it is the next coaster to go, I dont think it will be for a while.

I've only been to the park a few times and every time I'm there IW has a decent wait. It's the first B&M - I don't care how short, rough or crappy it is, it has to stay around just because of its history.

its nice that it has a wait, but i'm never in that wait, i would like to see something else in its place. i wish they would've gotten rid of that instead of shockwave, even though i know why they got rid of shockwave instead. It does kind of look like its next to go.

It has a half hour or so wait during the weekends, but during a weekday at night you usually just walk right on. Once I walked right onto front row; were the only people on the train.

I hope so, but it looks so run down. It's like they're just letting it go.

Usually when I go in September and October, and some other days, every switchback is being used. I don't think it will go any time soon. I don't want it to either, it's a great coaster.

It might not mean anything to you, but to a lot of other people it does. History is important.

So you should keep a ride with low ridership that is COSTING the park money just becasue it was a first?! I don't think most of the GP knows or ever cares that it was the 1st B&M.

History means nothing to parks, eh? I think it means a lot.

aero you have a point there. Most of the GP doesn't really know/care about its history. But it still has a decent line...

Plus I'm sure B&M know it isn't a great ride, so they might want us to take it down. It lowers their standereds.

That dosent sound like a true enthusiast. So TTD is History because it broke the 400ft mark first, but the first B&M means nothing? Shame on you.

Once again, I never said it means nothing to me, I said "to parks" If you read my first post, I don't want the ride to go. They wouldn't have tried to get rid of whizzer if history mattered to them. And they wouldn't have taken out Sky Whirl. You all have misunderstod me.

That sucks that they are tearing down classic rides but a lot still remains and thats the good thing about SFGA because look at EAGLE and whizzer. If they do take down Iron Wolf it will suck but maybe they would build a bigger one. You never know.

Just because they take out a ride doesn't mean they don't care about its history. They take out rides for certain reasons, take Shockwave for example, it was unpopular. From what I remember, it didn't even have any switchbacks open on packed days, when I was there anyway. And I heard Sky Whirl had a big maintenance issue...

Shockwave didn't really have a big historybut it was popular. And I think Iron wolf has its share of maitanence problems.

What do you mean saying that SW had no switch backs. Probly SW was unpopular because it got rough over the years. Maybe they wont take it to another theme park and rebuild it here. That will be good but i doubt it and it will still be unpopular.

And it was the tallest coaster built when it was new, I believe.

Iron Wolf doesn't seem to have much of a maintenance issue, I hardly see it break down.
