Introduction and a couple questions

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I haven't been to the park since about 2001, but hope to make my return for Fright Fest this year or for the 2016 season. I grew up going to the park, and had a season pass for a couple years around '94-'96 which I might do for next year. I have a couple questions since I haven't been to SFGA in a long time:

I always exited on Grand Ave from I-94 and went through the front entrance. Is it less crowded/better to go through the exit by American Eagle ? I assume I would get off at 120/Belvidere to do that.

If you bring a backpack for essentials (sunscreen, phone, etc.) do you typically leave that at the ride station or are you forced to rent a locker ?

I appreciate any input and look forward to making it back to the park. I've been missing it this year, but moving made my summer very busy.

If you leave anything in the "bins", or those things where you can store your items in the station, you obviously take a risk. Shoes, water bottles, etc. are probably ok to leave. I do not think any ride has a mandatory locker policy anymore....bins seem to be just about everywhere. Anything like keys and wallets just keep with you at all times in tight/zipped pockets or leave them with someone that goes with you. Girls still wear those fanny packs. Guys not so much. My sister in law had a fanny pack back in July and I put my wallet, phone and charger in there....those things fit a lot of stuff. She had something in there too. If you end up buying something, just go put it in your car. No sense in putting it in lockers or walking around with that stuff all day.

We were there on July 3rd and had one backpack between us and would just leave it in the station. We never had any issues and thought it worked really well. We did keep our wallets in our pockets. Have fun at the park!

Chances are nobody will dare try and steal something from the bins with so many people and ride ops walking around everywhere all the time...but you are never certain. I noticed they have signs now that say the area is being monitored/videotaped and to be careful because they will catch you.

Thanks everyone ! I'm quite excited to go again and will probably come for Fright Fest. There's so many new rides/coasters since I was last there. I don't think the Mardis Gras area existed when I was there last.

consider making a weekend of FF if this is your first visit in a long time! Ride and haunted house lines are second only to the lines during 4th fest, if 1 day is all you can manage get a Flash Pass and The more expensive haunted house pass, definately eat in the park (this taco thing looked and smelled amazing).

I attempted Fright Fest with a buddy and it was bad enough that the parking lot had a sign advising people to visit another day due to the crowds....defeated we just made a u-turn and went home since it was only open 4-10 that day

There aren't any mandatory lockers any more. The only issue I've had is getting my Green Sports Bottle swipped. Now I have it covered in stickers. Nothing has happened since.

It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle :?
Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? :P

The Eagle entrance is always the way I go. And yes, take exit 120/Belvidere WEST. Make sure it's the one directly AFTER the bridge. You then take the road to Hunt Club road. turn right until you hit Washington. Turn right, and the park should be to your left after a mile.

And we have bins on ALL rides. Even the ones(well, Demon) that have lockers outside of them. No need to worry. If you're really afraid of getting something stolen, do what I do, and put a plastic Grocery Store bag over your stuff.

This seems like a strange way to take. If I were coming from that direction I would get off at 120 EAST, take that to Oplaine and make a left, then make a left at Washington. If you are going to take 120 WEST then why not get off at Milwaukee once on 120 and take that to Washington. Hunt Club seems far out of the way.

Also Hoju, keep in mind that if you're coming from the north that there are no exits for 120. You would have to get off at Milwaukee Ave.

You haven't? It's off of Washington between Milwaukee Ave and I 94. There's a even a traffic light for it.

If I'm coming from I94/Midway area suburbs, how do I access this?

Get off at Exit 11 B, which is Route 120/West Belvidere Road. Go down the road until you hit Hunt Club Road. Turn right at the light, until you hit Washington. Turn right at the light, and continue for about a mile. The park should then be to your left.

Most people don't know this but you can go around the drop off area and turn left to get out the park quicker. This is where the buses come in and out.
