What makes demon less of a headbanger for you? Ive tried hugging the left headrest, keeping my head forward, and nothing. I will say though it didn't bother me as much as I remember. I haven't ridden demon since I was young because I remember bad headaches from it. No headaches. Just got my head bounced around.
Obvious, "you're not helping" answer: Don't ride it.
Best I can do answer: Learn the ride layout (videos) and anticipate. Generally speaking, I keep my head forward, center and fairly strong in the neck. Then I lean opposite of whatever direction we're turning, knowing the landing will snap us back.
I haven't ridden Demon in a long time, but I have this CSB about its cousin, Ninja in St. Louis: We were warned repeatedly by friends not to ride Ninja because it was a headbanger and we told the tales of Iron Wolf and Demon in return. So we go, we see it, there's no line and we're like, "Well, we're only here once."
We ride it near the front and it's perfectly fine. Great, even. So good, that at the end of the night, we go back. We ride it again, near the front. Brilliant. Again, in the front. Awesome. We're starting to think the critics are all wrong. Then we ride in the middle-back.
Ouchy. Time to go back to the hotel. Let's stop for some Advil first, though.
It depends where you have the most trouble with the head banging. If its the corkscrews, I always lean my head into the turn. They go to the right so i lean my head to the right. I don't find it to hurt at all. I also tend to sit everywhere on Demon, and again it doesn't hurt at all.
When you get to the top, and you hear that click, you better hang on, because your coming down quick!
I've been riding Demon since 1980, and have really been enjoying it again. I haven't banged my head in a long time on the Demon, and it's again become one of my favorite coasters at Great America. Heading down into the corkscrews, I hold my head forward off the headrest and push my right shoulder into the harness. No problem at all! By the way, I used to always ride up front on Demon, assuming the back would be rougher, but a couple years ago, I tried the back, and now it's my favorite place to sit. That first drop in the back seats is amazing, and the ride isn't any rougher at all, in fact, it may be smoother, since the front of the train is the first to take any transitions in the track.
I think it really helps with age. The older you get, the less head banging you will get from Demon. Demon makes younger kids hit their head into the harnesses because they are much shorter, and to me the height limit is really too small for them. It's not the fact that a kid is going to get thrown out of the ride, but the shorter you are, you are more towards the bottom of the harness, and you might get banged around. For anyone that is younger, and getting roughed on the Demon, come back in some time when you get taller, and you will see a difference.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"

I'm 30 and 5'6" on a good day. My girlfriend is in my age range (a gentleman never tells) and 5'2". We still get bashed around.
I keep hoping for that next growth spurt. Not optimistic.
