This is for anyone who has been to a physics day at GAm.
We just got some info at school that our physics class is going to GAm for a physics day. Now I know that it's a private day for H.S. students and all, but I heard it's about 40-50 dollars to participate. Now I will have my season pass by then, and I'm not sure if I want to waste an extra 40-50 dollars on something that I don't know what it is. So I ask anyone, can you explain how the physics day works at the park? Ex. how much ride time do you get, are all the rides usually open, how much physics is actually involved in the trip? You know stuff like that.
I just don't want to waste an extra 40-50 dollars on a day at Great America I won't enjoy. So all the information and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I went last year, and it is a non operating day so season passes are not accepted. Tickets (for us) were around $30.00 (I think) and that included an all you can eat buffet. Out total trip cost was around 50 dollars with bus fees and all.
We were there from 10:30ish (Bad 294 traffic) and we left at 2ish. The park is surprisingly crowded (I believe that there are 10,000 tickets for sale and they usually sell out), and there is minimal staff so lines move slow as coasters arn't operating at full capacity. We did wait through the entire que for Superman and many other rollercoasters.
Our physics teacher gave us our own packets to do, so I am unsure if the park has official papers. I do remember seeing some PDF documents of official physics day question sets.
It's up to you, I liked it because I got to go with many friends who never otherwise would go. It is a bit pricey, but in the end, it was well worth it.
We're going on May 12th for physics. The cost of our trip, including bus and everything, is $50. Our teacher is giving us worksheets that we have to complete and hand in for a grade. Kind of sucks, but oh well. I think we're going to be there from about 10:00-6:00.
See I took physics last semester, but both semester class still get to go. I also heard about a work sheet, but I had a friend tell me it's really easy and that he did most of it on the bus ride to the park. But I'm not sure.
Thanks to by job I've been there the last three years. The gates open up and 9:00 but last year it took them a while to get the rides running. Staffing is at a bare minimum. You will see a lot of the maintnance people running the rides. I did however find the lines to be relativly short. Our group left at 3:00 last year and on my way out I got walk on rides on Viper and Wizzer.
Don't expect too much from the park they are not in full operation and many of smaller flat rides and games that to not have a Scientific or large money making potential are not open. All in all the last 2 years have been great days to go even though I have to pay an extra $40 plus haveing a season pass. Then again since I am working and getting paid good money to do what I love and share it with people who usuall would not talk to me.
One word of warning: Eat early or eat late... because of the limited number of resturants open, lines are Vvvveeerrrryyyy long, so plan acordingly. Believe me, it sucks to have to wait longer for food than for many rides.
Also, when we went, my teacher made the WS "optional" (AKA, we didn't have to do it!). Score!
