Question about Iron Wolf

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby mschulz5 on January 27th, 2004, 9:36 pm
Well this may have been posted before but...

I have noticed that Iron wolf's trains are a bit different from say Mantis's or Riddler's trains. Would this be any reason why Iron wolf is a tad rough? I don't know just a thought. And if it is a different train, would we ever be able to get new ones?

Well Iron Wolf was B&M's first coaster on their own, all their other designs were probally refined off of Iron Wolf. And changing trains could change the forces on the ride, so money would not only have to be spent on the new trains but on engineers who would have to make sure the new trains wouldn't tear the track to pieces. I don't see IW getting new trains anytime soon... Still, I wonder about those "Marine Use Only" seatbelts...

The "Marine Use Only" seatbelts are kind of weird. I forget which season they were installed, but I can't help wonder where they got them from

Did Iron Wolf used to have different restraints?

I'm guessing that took them off of old Roaring Rapids rafts, hoping no one would notice.

Yes it used to have red restraints like this one below. They changed them to yellow in like 99 or 00 because of the complants of the riders getting off not that these are much better?

The old restraints were made by Intamin (the company B&M used to work with) then they made new restraints for their newer generation standups and they were installed on Iron Wolf.

wow! the yellow ones on IW now are B&M's? I though those were Intamin, and that's why they are so uncomfortable. But I've never ridden another standup, so I can't really compare it to anything. I'm guessing all standups are just as uncomfortable.

^ Only in the crotch section ^

I actually found Mantis rougher than IW when I rode it, but thats my opinion and I'm a little more used to IW.
The restraints that they have now aren't that restricting to put your hands up. At least not compared to arrow sitdowns.
you can't believe it - you didn't mean it
but they saw you do it and they know your name

Whats wrong with that, you still lived so whats the problem.

Just Kidding, I hate the demon too. If you feel like you just came back from a car accident after you ride something, then the ride is a bad ride plain and simple.

I have an idea don't squeeze your arm inbetween the OTSR and the side of the Car. Then your arm wont hurt ; )

I love the pain caused by IW. It makes the ride more intense.

I don't usually get banged around much on IW... but when I do, I love it cause it makes the ride more fun.

I never experienced any roughness or headbanging the 3 times I rode Mantis. It was a perfectly smooth ride.

The only reason those belt buckles say "Marine Use Only" is that they are made so they can get wet AND let the restraintee (if you will) unbuckle themselves quickly. Cause if a raft is sinking, I'm taking that belt off buddy. Same principle on the coaster. Quicker unloading.

Have you ever noticed the signs say KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THE HANDLES. You can't blame the park if you brake the rules.

I put my hands up on demon and iron wolf (except the corkscrews on demon). Ispecially last row on IW. It never hurts my nuts because u should pull down the restraint so the seat is lower. Front rows unbelievable too, I might add.

Hold on a second everyone.. I'm not in any way blaming the park! I'm saying that I learned my painful lesson. Sorry if I offended anyone.
