Return to themeing?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Piper6319 on January 22nd, 2004, 2:55 pm
With the money being put in to boost the theme of the park, I was wondering if Great America would have any thoughts on having the ride ops return to wearing outfits that reflect either the theme of the ride or area?
The ops in South West Territory used to wear dennim shirts and jeans. The Batman ops wore those Gotham Gity parks uniforms.
Its only a small thing, but I think it would be much better than the bland blue top kakhi pants that everyone wears.

Knotts is the only park I have been to that does this, and it really doesn't add to the themeing much. At least I didn't think so, it just makes it harder to tell if the person is a employee or not.

I know Universal and Disney parks do that.I think it looks nice, it would be cool if SFGAm did that again.

Coaster Dude, you don't think it adds to themeing? Try riding Tower of Terror at Disney/MGM with a guy wearing a polo shirt and kakhis buckling you up and just closing the door.

SFGAm might think that guests like the blue and khakis better, because it makes it easier for the guests to spot employees. (A little wordy, but you get what I mean.)

I dont recall Universal Studios Hollywood doing that when I went 3 years ago.

I dont see the point in the employees wearing clothes that fit the area. I dont mid the uniforms now. So I dont care whether or not they do or dont wear themed clothes.

I am sure its more cost effective to have across the board uniforms for the employees.

Also, if you say work a ride in SWT and then later on that day they need you in Hometown Square, you are going to look out of place.

Marriott used to do the uniforms themed to the sections of the park.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I really like how they use to do that, but I really don't think they absolutley need too. I don't really care what they wear anyhow. Do any of you go to the park to ooooh and aaahh over what they employees are wearing?

So what if it's the most crowded day of the year, Raging Bull needs another op to run 3 trains, and the only one that's certified is over at B:TR (work with me here). Yeah, it's a bad idea. I don't think ride ops are gonna want to buy more than one uniform.

Problems with wardrobe could be eliminated if each area had a standard uniform, and the employees went through the backroads to a "central costuming" location where they had all the uniforms. No purchasing, you just grab one, put it on. Do the laundry on site. I don't know, I think it would add to the park's ambiance.

Some areas, like SWT, Yukon, and Yankee could be themed well. But what about areas like Hometown Square? What would those be like? And Batman, they'd need separate uniforms for that, because sailors running Batman wouldn't work too well.

I think I do like the theming, but I don't know if having employees dressed up to the area is a little too much. I'd rather see more theming of stationary scenery, like the camera booths and trash cans. :D

If SFGAm does have their ride ops wear the themed uniforms, what would the ride ops for Deja Vu and V2 wear? Or Even Iron Wolf? That'll be funny to see.

Well they would wear the uniforms of whatever themed area they were in. Since Deja Vu is in County Fair, they would wear the CF uniforms. There would be exceptions obviously, like for Batman.

I forget what the costumes for HT Square looked like.

It's cheaper for the park to just sell the costumes to the employees rather than have extra staff to wash everything, whixh costs $$. Cut corners wherever you can.

I think it would look weird and stupid if you saw somebody in costume running coasters and such. The employees wouldnt have time to go change because they have a small amount of time to get to the ride they are transfered to. If the costume idea was brought up to the employees I dont think they would like it especially if they had to pay for it. I mean even some restaurant eployees with weird uniforms dont like it because it makes them look stupid. I dont think any of the employees at GAm are willing to wear something stupid.

If you really want to work at GAm, you do what you have to do... the park really wouldn't care if the employees think the uniforms are stupid... it's all about the guest experience, remember?

Themed uniforms wouldnt make the park experience better. I think it would make it weirder.

Yeah those Raging Bull ops ; ) I found mostly all the employees to be very nice and very funny all season long. I guess it was because I was there like almost every day so I got to know some people and have an awesome time!

They need to redo yukon territory, yankee harbor, and county fair to be more themed if they were going to have themed costumes for employees, and since I highly doubt that SFGAm would retheme those sections, I don't think we will see a return of costumes.
