Questions about Passes and Rides

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Hi All,

Tomorrow, Fri July 20 will be my first ever visit to SFGA. I've live in the Detroit area and have been to tons of other parks but strangely not made it over your way till now. CP is my home park and with our likely addition of a wing rider for next year, I wanted to take a spin on x-flight.

I'll be coming alone, and have been searching these forums and reading posts ad nauseum about the Gold and Platinum flash passes. I know crowd levels are hard to predict, and I've read some trip reports, so I'm trying to decide if I should go for the Platinum or Gold pass. I have a few questions I couldn't find answers for in searches.

1. Earlier posts said only Platinum passes are able to be used on X-flight, and the number of rides is limited. Is this still true?

2. Are there any other limitations to the Platinum pass as far as number of rides are concerned?

3. I'm only here for one day, and the weather looks good. I'd like to ride everything multiple times, and have some time left over to be able to check out HH as well. Based on this, do you recommend the Gold or Platinum pass?

4. What time should I arrive at the park tomorrow (it opens at 10?) to be able to park, get my Flash pass, etc. Or am I better off riding X-flight before getting the pass? Does the pass booth open before the actual park opens?

5. Can I take my flash pass into HH or do I need to return it first?

6. Any other tips I should know about?

I sure appreciate the help. I only get one day, and probably won't be back for a couple years, so I need to get this right the first time.

1. I don't know about how many uses (it was one) but platinum is the only flash pass to use on it.
2.There's no limit on how many rides you can go on with the exception of XFlight.
3.This park is large. Even with the flash pass Hurricane Harbor will be hard to accomplish with all the other rides.
4. I would get there at 10 and get the flash pass followed by XFlight. The line for flash pass can be terrible on some days and it will take a little while for XFlight to get a long line. Plus the water park may be busy because of it being warm.
5.You can take it to Hurricane Harbor but the rides over there use a different system and the flash pass is not water proof. Just water resistant.
6. Dark Knight and Ragin Cajun are not worth the wait. If its a long line even with flash pass on Dark Knight. you could still end up waiting 30minutes depending on where the line is cut off at. To cool off during a meal check out Mooseburger Lodge.

The good news on Ragin' is that you'd be a single, and they actually have a line for single riders which greatly reduces wait time.

2. Vertical Velocity only allows you to ride it once every time you reserve a ride (all other rides except X flight) allow you to ride twice and not get off.

The Hurricane Harbor Gold Flash Pass is $20 bucks, so if you want to do that as well, just know. Lockers are $15 for the small, and $18 for the large.

Also, If you don't get the flash pass (you should) - start with Superman, go to Vertical Velocity, then Rajun Cajun, because those are typically the slowest rides for loading etc.

if you get the flash pass, get Platinum, and be 5 minutes early for your X Flight reservation. There's no missing your time allowed.

You get 2 reservations. I heartily recommend back left and front right personally.

Thanks so much guys, you are awesome!

I will get the platinum. Not too concerned about the water park, especially since there are quite a few rides that I won't be able to go on alone, without partnering up with strangers.

Stupid question: does the flash pass device state the current time on it? I couldn't find the answer to this. I'd love to avoid taking my cell phone into the park (who wears watches nowadays anyways right?)

Yes it says the current time and time until the next ride.

where oh where is that single rider line at?
Candy: What you lookin' at?
Otis B. Driftwood: I'm lookin' at you, mama.
Candy: Yeah, you see something you like?
Otis B. Driftwood: Maybe. I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed.
