Loose Articles

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Does every ride permit loose articles? I'm going there Sunday-Tuesday. Is there bins on the sides of all the rides, which ones do I need a locker for? Thank you!

Not every ride allows loose articles. All the roller coasters at SFGAm have lockers near their entrance lines, or exit paths. Most of are coasters don't have bins anymore, Walking across the train row to the bin on the other side of the platform and getting to your seat, strapping yourself in, all of that just slows down the boarding time. Ride ops want to get you on and secure, check your restraints and send you out of the station as fast as possible. Bins just slow down the process.

There are lockers everywhere in the park. Ride lockers only allow you 2 hours, however there are other lockers in the park that you can use. I think the "all day locker" is $17. If you're worried about losing your stuff and you don't want to place your stuff in a locker or bin, you can always get zipper shorts, I use those and thanks to cargo shorts with deep zipper pockets, I don't need to waste money on a locker or worry about my stuff being stolen from a ride bin.

Huh? Most of the coasters do have places to store stuff now. They have a place to store souvenir cups on top, and store stuff underneath. My whole thing about the oh it takes time for people to go to bins is this. There are a whole lot more time wasters than bin people. Bin people are excited to ride, and they will rush to get to their bin, and since they don't want anyone taking their seat, they will rush back.

Now for time wasters, well of course breakdowns is #1 / harnesses or restraints being broken & for Superman restraints being rechecked and feet things not being good to go, than for Demon you have flash pass right near the station that is a time waster, you have rows going empty on something like Batman the Ride because people don't go in that station because of the front row / other rows thing, it could be a slow staff, the exit pass people could slow down operation, no height checks for kids until they get into the station (They should have the flash pass person check them than!), clean up of bloody nose or puking, and sometimes flash pass employees don't send enough people through the line (and they send empty like what happened to Dark Knight last year). So, these are the reasons why you wait in line longer than you have to. To me, it's not the bins being the problem!

Cargo shorts with zip pockets are the best investment you can make. They are hard as hell to find, but worth it.

I generally carry a small shoulder bag to parks for important items (phone, camera, etc.) Will I be able to take this with me like at Cedar Fair parks or will I be forced to buy lockers while on rides? I like my camera with me all the time yet can't risk getting my stuff stolen.

Also a small helpful tip, if you planning on riding coasters and winning a prize from a game, wait till close to the end to get the prize otherwise you'll prolly have to rent a locker to store the prize during the day.

Another reason to steer clear of those bins:

^^^^ To that link, if you leave a coach purse in a bin you are basically just asking for it to get stolen, I mean come on so many people who you have no idea who they are or what they are like are seeing that in the bin it's just not a smart idea.

If it appears to have something of value in it or looks valuable itself, expect it to go missing if you leave it in a bin.

Wow, that's disappointing. We tour parks every summer and I always have my camera, phone, glasses, park maps, tickets, etc in that shoulder bag. If those items went missing all at once my week would be wrecked. At Cedar Point, Kings Island, even Michigan's Adventure I've never had a worry, the bins have always been reliable.

I know it sounds stupid but I wear a fanny pack to the park that holds everything that has value to me. It fits on every ride and haven't had a problem with losing anything since I never take it off.

I don't pretend to be above fanny packs if it works at a particular park. Does your FP work out all coasters? I'm coming to SFGA next week and I need to pick one up this weekend if that's the Ideal method.

There are better options than a fanny pack, cargo shorts with zipper pockets is my way.

I know there are better options but I like the fanny pack and to answer your question TunaSled yes it does work on all the coasters. If you adjust it out of the way of the restraint you should be fine. For instance on SUF, I put it on my hip instead of in front...along with rides like Bull, V2 and BTR. Other rides like Eagle, Viper and Demon are fine with my fanny pack sitting on my lap.

Whenever i go i use my handy Old Navy zipper pocket shorts or if those are dirty just a double velcro side pocket or back pocket still works for me.

I think they stress that your shoes should be tied too because when I was about to enter the queue for a ride, the attendant employee at the entrance made me tie my shoes before I got into the queue. Never heard of that. Weird.

Hey, I got a question.
Where on the net can I find some cargo shorts that have deep zipper pockets?
I already have one pair that came from Old Navy several years ago.

I'd really like to add a few more cargo shorts with deep zipper pockets to my closet.

^Actually a perfect place would be at bass pro shops across the highway from SFGAm. They have lots of summer wear right now. I think they do have deep zipper pockets too because if you're going out hunting/fishing where are you going to stuff all that you need to carry with you? Makes sense. The mall in general im sure has to have shorts you are looking for. Hope this helps.

^Good call on Bass Pro. Any outdoor store will be your best bet. I went to the Vernon Hills mall in 2010 and a grand total of 1 of the stores had zipper shorts and they ran $45 each.

In a few ways, Cedar Fair is smarter as a company, but in some ways I don't care for them. For the bins though they have a smart idea, they have belts on the bins, magnets, or sliding doors, whereas we have 1 thing for all the stuff at our park. The only Six Flags park I seen with the sliding door concept is at Over Texas, and the rides I remember having them were Judge Roy Scream, and Shockwave (I forgot about the other ones). Cedar Fair is also smarter with retractable seat belts on some rides, but for other rides, really do they need a seatbelt (like an Arrow - give me a break)? That's why your stuff isn't getting stolen at Cedar Fair parks. I guess the real problem is that who's watching those bins. They need a camera on the stuff really. Cedar Fair is also smarter for how they check the seats on a ride like Raptor, and I would love to see how fast they would get Superman Ultimate Flight loaded with their procedure like they do on Raptor.

I found shorts with 1 zipper for a pocket at Kmart. They were hard to find. The only other place I know they had them was Old Navy.

I did borrow a fanny pack and used it for my camera, extra batteries and other minor things and it worked for me exactly like you said, Jackluver18. Never took it off once. The bin system worked perfectly for us in regards to the refillable souvenir cups. We got smart and tied a hair tie around the handle, it helped when de-boarding and there are twenty cups just like yours :)
