Six Flags America's Facebook has posted pictures of the track, which is being painted. Some areas may be finished, others are definitely just primer.
Hey it looks like that one section of track that could have been that block for that third train I read it on TPR by some guy who worked foods in the 90s so it must be true.
While it's technically rust, that is completely normal for steel. It looks exactly like that when it's being fabricated before the treatment and painting.

I still don't see it. The only rust I see anywhere in the pics is on the protective end caps that are bolted to the ends of the rails, but that's to be expected, those are throw-away kind of things. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if those came off of Superman.

^THOSE were what I meant. The things with the 2 screws. I was expecting something new. Wow hopefully they paint over that because the ride looks a tad cheap with the rust

WOOOW. haha all this time I've been seeing those endcaps, and actually taking note of the diameter discrepancy, and yet I still never connected that fact with a train's inability to roll through a feature like that!
It's all coming together now. (after MONTHS of seeing the same kind of pictures )
I'm starting to get really skeptical about the point of adding this ride to SFA. The ride is known for being rough but they do nothing to the train but change the color of the seats/restraints. Also looking at that picture it does not look like the Baynum paint that is made for coasters that they have been using on repainting rides recently. Either it just rained before this picture was taken, or they used cheaper clumpy paint as a cost cutting measure.
Whether it's because IW is not worth putting big money into, or SFA is not worth putting big money into is the question. I just don't see the point of this ride unless maybe they want to make some money off of this ride to help pay for a real addition down the road, but in that case you think they would want to paint Iron Wolf with the baynum paint so it lasts a long time. Or they could just be saying f it and build the ride because they need a new ride and the long term ramifications don't matter.
Maybe they just figured it would be bad PR to scrap a somewhat historic ride, so instead they're "throwing it away" by dumping it in a park that isn't one of their money makers.
I'm pretty sure it had just rained, but with all the pieces on the ground I'd assume the park is painting it in house. Baynum is more for painting rides that are already put together that requires people to go up at heights and be exposed to risks that the park(s) would rather not be liable for. Not sure what kind of paint Baynum uses, but I'm guessing the park is using a similar kind, probably being applied by hand with rollers/brushes. Most parks do that. Here is a pic of Borg being repainted upon it's arrival at Carowinds...
Once it was completed and the ride was put together it looked fine, and as far as I could tell looked fine until it was painted again when it was renamed to Nighthawk by Cedar Fair, who of course is always known for using the worst paint they can get their hands on
^^About 35 seconds into the video when the guy lifted his foot over the bar, I thought he was going to fall. It is really neat how it safely removes that paint like it was nothing.

I like how its going to be a bit raised, unless those footers are going to end up buried more. And as for that other pic, I'd love to see another Green coaster come into SFGAM...
Can you imagine that paint remover used on bare skin? Yikes.
I think the site for the most part is going to get filled in, it looks like there is a crater around each footer still.
As for the pressure washer. A normal 3,000 psi pressure washer will take your skin right off. That thing would probably break bones or cut right through you if you got hit directly. Probably similar to water cutters for sheet steel, granite and other hard materials. Baynum uses 40,000 psi,you can cut though 4-5 inches of solid steel at 55,000psi.

We had a guy at work use one on his hands after washing our trucks, not knowing the power of the thing (Probably a "weaker" 5000 psi). Still getting skin grafts after 4 years.
