Ride Status Discussion

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Personally I think it's simply poor maintenance. The engine has a diesel engine in it but that just drives a hydraulic pump, the hydraulic system is what provides the motive power. I bet many of the various parts of the hydraulic system are worn beyond a usable state. You can hear the diesel is running at full speed but nothing is happening, the hydraulic oil is moving though the system and is leaking around the drive motors rather than forcing the wheels to turn.

I bet it's time for the park to make a choice and have at least one new engine custom built, or retire the railroad. Cause even if they drop the coin to get a new locomotive or 2, all the cars need a complete overhaul.

Cheaper short term option is go to Cedar Point and Disney to see if either are willing to sell off one of their steamers, but I doubt SFGAm wants to deal with that. Perhaps they should have kept the 2-3 steam engines they used to have, though if I remember right either the track or the trestles would have an issue supporting them.

^ If they do remove it, that leaves 3 bridges with ditches in the path. Idk if they will(or can) remove it. The big LED screen in front of the HTS bridge stayed after the 'revamp', so the park must be eager to keep it. And who knows if they'll keep the track. And the crossings for both normal path and service roads pose problems. All of those must be repaved(if they remove the track). Not to mention the 2 stations, one of which is probably the most detailed building in the park.

^ It could all be done. Look at California. They removed the station hill, redid the others, tore out all the track, etc. The only remnant is the County Fair station which they use as a queue house. You'd never know they had a train from the looks of it.

^ True, but remember, we're Six Flags. We don't care about untouched rides. I can almost guarantee that if they do remove the train, they won't touch it for at least 2 seasons.

I hope they don't get rid of the train, it's one of the only flats that everyone can ride regardless of age. Not everyone wants to spin or drop hundreds of feet. If they did redo the train a nice thing might be additional stops. It would be cool to see a monorail, but I feel it would take too much nostalgia and charm away from the park.

I hope they don't. Once they remove the train, STT is the only ride without a height restriction. Even then, there are some who are unable to ride.

They can always re-purpose Hometown Station into IgNight 2.0

Hurricane Harbor should be closed till the temps reach at least the 70's. Not even tomorrow I think.

Hometown Park rides are open and Red Train is at Raging Bull and has run some test cycles. I'm not sure if it is ready for riders.

For the ride status, Raging Bull is now 3 trains. You may see 2 trains on weekdays for another week or two while school is still in session, but if the park is busy enough and has enough ride ops available, it will have 3 trains.

I'm pretty sure Possessed at Dorney Park still has it's holding brake in use.

Guess what! My ride on Steel Venom today didn't have the holding brake. I was on one of the last trains and it was past 10:00. We launched, fell, launched forward again and then instead of going up the spike for the brake, the ride rolled back into the station and stopped in the position where it seems to spend most of the time on v2. I was so mad because then they made us all get off because the op wasn't paying attention and already had the next riders loading. All this time I have been waiting to experience the beloved holding brake and it was a no show.

Goliath is temporarily closed for maintenance.

Also, American Eagle Blue side now has 2 trains.

When is it expected to reopen? I'm going tomorrow. Do you think it will be ready by then?

Thanks
