Something along the lines of "Hey, we've done all this work to hype up what we think is a big announcement and want to delay the backlash as long as possible."

Similar to last year, really.
That's why I would have announced Eagle and the new attraction in the same announcement. After last year, people are expecting this announcement Monday to be the big one. Maybe it will be, but all the clues point only to Eagle so far.
Backlash? For eagle running backwards? and for all my hype I was making people think...we could have ended up with v2 again, I am a HUGE arrow fan, shockwave was my favorite coaster so I can daydream.... Becidea, We need a gforce monster again, with wolf gone we have batman demon and v2.... I need to lose weight to fit on v2. Guess we are down to two loopers. This park needs more loops and more inversions.
My next visit to the park won't be until the second weekend of August since I will be at Kings Island next weekend so I'll miss the first day of Eagle backwards on August 8, but owell, Dimandback is calling my name . My next visit however, I will be power riding Eagle Backwards my next visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The GP on Facebook are getting angry that this is the big announcement. For some reason they are assuming there is no new ride next year, even though nobody said there isn't. The lack of logic is astounding.

Yep, the uproar there is similar to last year with the Riptide Bay announcement.
rizash wrote:Then why does the spoiler say -cute7, social media on air and web promotion??? Serioisly were losing wolf here, why would eagle backwords somehow trump that? They would break good news after bad news.... Not the other way around... Look kids we have eagle running backwords for fright fest. Then sorry guys iron wolf is closing
Not to say I told you so or anything

I think that's a big part of the problem, and why the park would be wise to announce the new attraction(s) at the same time (or at least hint at that announcement).
Im not giving up on another teaser for next years coaster being hidden in there.... I was told that there was no way six flags could run blue backwards... I guess my source was wrong on that.
I have no problem with SFGAm announcing this as a big announcement, they want to drum up interest for Eagle's 30th. But they're doing it in a way to make fans think something new and exciting is coming, like last year. Can't blame people for being pissed off, especially since the vast majority aren't avid fans or followers of sites like these, where other stuff has been revealed.
After what turned into a marketing bomb last year in how they revealed Riptide Bay, I'm surprised they are going this route for something relatively minor, when just announcing it in a press release will draw up more positive interest. Ironically, last year the "secret" was revealed well before it was planned, much like Eagle this year. So not only has it been a poor marketing strategy, it's also been poorly executed.
Keep in mind, I have no problem with flipping blue backwards. But the park is once again advertising this in a wrong way.

Yep. There's a lot of writing on that "file," though, so there's got to be more there than they have hinted at. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until Monday, and if we have to wait on the 2012 announcement, I'm fine with that.
Someone asked why do this now? I think it's because the attendance for the park hasn't been good, and they are trying anything really to get more people to the park, and they figure they can't add another ride now. They already spent money on Riptide Bay.

Im kinda curious as to whether over the years they've been coming up with a less destructive way to run this backwards, and finally got it, or they're just saying "whatever, its only a couple of months." and are gonna take the damage.

I would assume Six Flags would never want to injure American Eagles tracks at all. American Eagle is one of the biggest icons in the Park, and they need to keep AE in the best condition possible for the longest period of time.
Ive been thinking about eagles track and cars.... If eagles cars are to be replaced with ones designed to run backwards they could run it that way forever... Also they could retrack parts of eagle soon.... Wooden coasters need high amounts of maintenance anyway, so replacing some parts of track is a continual process anyway. Again I thought the trains were not said to be safe backwords and thats why they stopped running them
rizash wrote:I was told that there was no way six flags could run blue backwards... I guess my source was wrong on that.
Well, I'm sure this wasn't a decision they made in the course of an hour. If there never was an issue with running it backwards it would still be running that way today. It obviously had enough of an impact at one time for them to be doing at again/have considered it. Perhaps there are risks that are willing to be made and there could have been a considerable amount of planning time to minimize as many as possible. We'll see what plays out.....
As for the announcement.....it's the job of PR to hype announcements to get people exicted/interested in the park. The park can predict typical reactions but it's not like they are trying to piss people off about it. With this day and age with technology, things just don't stay as secret as they could be. The fact that people saw a blue car reversed and could put 2 and 2 together to get 4 is just that. If anything, someone leaked information to WGN....it's the media; they gave them a story and they went with it. As long as there are people out there who try to interpret the clues, there will always be information to be sought after.
There's quite a bit of information on that piece of paper just to talk about reversing one side of AE. So unless the rest is fluff, there could be hints/clues as to future announcements. Tomorrow will tell.

I don't think the park would be wise to announce both simultaneously. In the grand scheme of things a very small percentage of their public (namely, us) is even aware there is an announcement happening on the first. The media is going to pick up the story which is how it will be delivered to the GP, Facebook is just the means of doing it today instead of a press release.
The media will pick up another announcement the same way they do this one, so if they have a second announcement for a new for 2012 ride all the better, because it creates hype for the park twice in a matter of months instead of once. Get people to come out to the park for the fall, and then entice them again just weeks after they leave. It's a good strategy. I had serious doubts we would hear about a new coaster on Monday.

Im not so sure this weekend will tell, and im confused.... would there be two pages of notes about eagle running backwards? But the folder does say aug 1 announcement.... So is this just a teaser??? And if they dont announce wolf leaving then that would give less than a month for people who don't read forums to get their last rides in..... That seems heartless if they already know wolf is leaving.... So.... I don't know what to think

I doubt they will announce it Monday too, since the park already said in June the announcement was coming this fall. But there are a lot of people on their FB page who are already up in arms because they think Eagle backwards somehow applies to a new attraction, when it doesn't. I realize that's a small part of the general population, but at the very least on Monday they should allude to another announcement coming in the fall, just so people calm down.
Go Big, Go Backwards! The American Eagle will thrill and surprise park visitors once again as the blue side races BACKWARDS! Join us for this can’t miss experience. The American Eagle runs backwards August 8 through September 17.
If you liked guessing this announcement, just wait until later this fall...

YES!! That gives us hope for a new coaster!

Seems like a waste of time and effort to run it that way for exactly 27 operating days. I would of thought they'd at least do it through the end of the season unless they change their minds. Either way, the park is approaching the insane busy time of the season and they can't afford to be down one side of the coaster. Read to Succeed ends this coming weekend and that can't be good that a side of the coaster will be down to get everything ready. I'm sure that from the 17th to Fright Fest they'd have more than plenty of time to get things back to normal so that both sides would be ready for October.
At least they let people know that there's still announcements pending for Fall (which was to be expected)......although I feel like I lost some brain cells reading the comments on the Facebook wall!
