Rode it, just as bad as I remembered. It jolts you around in places on a track where you shouldn't be jolted around (i.e. bottom of first drop). Just absolutely awful.
Good riddance. Anyone who misses this ride is suffering from brain damage, presumably from riding Iron Wolf too much.
My friends said that riding Iron Wolf in the back row would be "fun". I rode it in the back and I had a headache for the rest of the day, I actually grayed out on the loop because it was so forceful in the back row... and rough.

I agree. It wasen't fun at all.
And just for fun, when Iron Wolf was down I asked the ride op what was gonna replace IW. I dont even remember why I asked. He said "We really don't know what will replace it"
Why couldnt he have said "We know what will replace it, but we aren't gonna tell you"
Xlight total rides: 50 times and in every row except front row left wing.

I rode Iron Wolf backrow last week and it was my best Wolfie ride ever. Smoother, Fast, and Forceful.
Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2. Coaster Count: 167 (41 Wood, 125 Steel) @Coaster_Cole on Twitter

We rode back row two weeks back and I also remarked it was my best ride in awhile. Still banged my ears into the restraints a lot, though. I also was keeping the head forward to limit the banging.

Because I would highly doubt ride operators are clued in on what is coming next year. They're part-time employees.
While SFA has requested permits to build a standup coaster we can't be sure it's IW.
SFA filed permits ten years or so ago with PG county to build a list of rides(most of which ultimately never got built thanks to Burke's policy of giving rides only to SFGRADV,SFGRAM & SFMM all the time) & included in that list was a standup coaster. When KD passed on the contract for the flying dutchman for the 01 season however the standup was cancelled & batwing took it's place as the last coaster SFA got up till now so there is the possibility that a new standup will be built for SFA in 2012 & not a relocation of IW as ther is enough space for the originally proposed 140ft tall,3,000 ft. long standup that was planned to fit where skull mountain is/was.
I should hope they don't get that POS as they've gone ten years now without a new coaster, plus they lost their invertigo due to poor maintenance along with so many other rides that I stopped going after the 07 season.SFA's 30th year is in 2012 so that may also explain why SFI has finally decided to give them a new coaster & after riding carowinds vortex last week(even with the new restraints) it still hurt & as a result I don't want IW to be coming to MD. Heck I prefer KD's standup shockwave over vortex or IW any day.

They need to sell that park already. First off, their mechanics and budget are probably awful. They couldn't even maintain a Chance Flying Bobs. They got rid of that Skull Mountain, they got rid of Invertigo, they got rid of the Octopus, they got rid of Chaos (The whole chain did, but still), and they got rid of a Tilt-A-Whirl. Batwing looked terrible with it's paint coming off of it. The land is valuable, and the park isn't. The park has a bad reputation! They are taking rides away period, but than on top of that very little do they replace with other rides. And than look at what they are doing with Iron Wolf. Iron Wolf doesn't deserve a second chance. It should really be put down like Flashback. Than, what season pass people for SFGAdv are doing is getting that season pass because it's cheaper (because it's not a great park), and than just going to SFGAdv with it. You go to a tourist area in Delaware (which is close to SFA), and they don't even know what Six Flags America is, but they have Great Adventure brochures. What's the point of keeping this park?
Plus, you could sell the SLC to some smaller park that would be glad to get it. Move Superman, Batwing, and Joker's Jinx as new additions to some better park. St Louis could always use parts for their Falling Star. Sell the Wave Swinger to another smaller park. Sell it off already Six Flags. It's such a waste of a park.
Send Superman to St. Louis. Send Joker's Jinx over here - SFGAm. Send Batwing to Fiesta Texas.

re: People getting season passes at SFA and using them at SFGAdv... IIRC purchasing a pass at SFA with the intent of using it regularly at SFGAdv will only hurt you by way of parking fees. I don't believe you can get a GAdv parking pass if you have a SFA season pass.
^I went there either the last year Invertigo was still there, or the year before. And I swear to God this is what happened at this park. At Superman Ride of Steel, there were these bigger guys (I'm not a racist, but they were black), and they were to the row to the right of me in parallel with another row. So, they are in 2 rows. I think it was 4 guys. So, 2 of them did alright going in the car they were supposed to. But than, for the other row it was these other people's turn, and they pushed them out of the way, and got in that car. They grabbed the guys, and moved them out of the car. I couldn't believe it at all. The ride ops didn't see it of course. Since, I said that those other guys were black, I might as well say that the guys they pushed were Spanish. Anyways, it was an awful sight. And the Spanish guys didn't even say anything. I would have been so mad it would have been ridiculously if it was me they did that too!!
After the ride, I was looking for security if they were around to escort those people out of the park, but of course they weren't to be found. Than, a couple years I thought I heard of gun shootings in the parking lot. I'm sort of the one that likes to prove people wrong, but I was dead wrong about this park. Besides that, Invertigo was closed both days, and Flying Bobs was open one day, but wasn't open the other day, and the one day it opened, it opened late. Plus on the Falling Star, some kid was laughing a lot, and all these other kids were harassing him a ton! The ride op didn't say knock it off, or nothing.
It's kind of like anything goes at this park. In terms of most dangerouse states (I'm curious what they are), Delaware is #7, and Maryland is #8 in which Maryland is where this park is, and Delaware is very close by it too.
I guess you could say that Six Flags can try to do their best, and go with the family friendly thing to deter people doing bad stuff at the parks, but I don't think that will deter them. For any Six Flags or any amusement park, I believe they need more police. I don't think though that they need to park their car in front of the park like SFGAm because that sends a bad message to the people that don't cause trouble that maybe this is an unsafe park, but to me there needs to be more real cops at these parks. The security in blue they have can only do so much. You have to remember that an amusement park on a LOW crowded day could have 15,000 people. They need more "real" police at all amusement parks in order for trouble to not start, and to be a warning to other people that might be thinking of doing something like above. That's how you make sure Six Flags America is a sure safe place to be, but as I said that park is NOT worth it, and it should be sold off. I can't believe they haven't done it yet. Six Flags bought too many parks, and they need to get rid of the ones that shouldn't even be called Six Flags. Kentucky Kingdom was the first step. Kentucky doesn't even have faith in that place!
And for Six Flags America, it's not like everyone at that park was awful. It's the bad apples that ruin the bunch. The Falling Star kids, and those 4 guys on Superman.

I dont understand all of the hatred. There have been times where I have re-ridden Wolf like 4 times in a row and didn't have a headache. Do people not know how to ride it? You need to make sure you just ready your head through the corkscrews. Its hard to keep your head forward and straight than on Demon but it can still be done.
Sure its not the best ride, but I probably actually have more fun on it than on Superman based on me not ever having to wait for Wolf. Stand-Up coasters are just a novelty of the past though and its good we are losing it.
I will miss it though, I thought it fit perfect in its spot in the back corner. The color fit in well for Yukon Territory and amongst the trees.
I should not have to put so much effort and place my body in a certain position to avoid getting a migraine. Especially if the proper way to ride it (head forward) is not how you're supposed to ride it (head against the headrest).
It's not even the corkscrew that hurts the most, or the loop. It's the bottom of the first hill that jerks to the left and the sharp banked turns after the corkscrew that hurt the most.

I'm convinced that in most cases it's just people who can't deal with forces. It isn't butter smooth, but it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be. The whining (especially amongst enthusiasts) is over-exaggerated similarly to the SLC and Boomerang complaints. Someone says it and everyone echoes it, with each echo getting louder and louder. Like a bad game of telephone/grapevine.

And this is where SFI should do what CF does RE:season passes by making the pass valid at ONLY the park it is purchased at.
I stopped going there after the 07 season when it was announced that yet another waterpark expansion was planned for 08 since that was all they were doing at best simply because it was cost effective & saved money for the spoiled parks I mentioned previously & their stupid coaster counts....SM was a maintenance problem from day one as it was a prototype after all but the removal of rides like iron eagle(roto-shake) & enterprise without replacements other than a show stage was another thing that I couldn't stand management doing.
Too bad CF got burned on the Ohio park as it'd be great to have them managing SFA as they've really turned KD around(not that it was ever bad) but I would'nt see them selling the park to an operator who'd fix it up & make it a threat to their beloved SFGRADV.SFA has the potential but SFI screws it up by playing favorites...they were making agood comeback between 99 & 01 but after the rides stopped coming so did the guests.

Yes. The SLC at Michigan's Adventure is no more rough than Batman: The Ride. Same with the people who thought Raven was the best coaster ever. It's a fun coaster, but it doesn't beat something like American Eagle...
People don't like Iron Wolf because of the part right after the corkscrew. That's the real reason! The only other rides that I can think of that will bang your head that violently if you don't figure out a strategy are Maverick, Ninja (I thought I remember both of them being bad like that - SFOG & SFStL), and Typhoon (@ Santa's Village before). And most people don't figure out a strategy, and just ride like your supposed to, and will complain all the time about it because the ride isn't right. It shouldn't be doing that really. My strategy is keep my head back most of the ride, but than right after the corkscrew, lean your head forward for that 3 seconds, and put your head back again. For the longest time though, I rode that with no strategy, and it was okay because the harnesses were soft, but they aren't anymore, so you really bang your head with those hard restraints.
For my experience on the SLC, it's not that they are rough per say, but I personally feel that the transitions are poor, and you don't know where in the world you are going next. It's just you go do this, that, and everywhere. It's like they crammed so much track in so little space that who knows where you are, and where you are going next. To me, the SLC should stand for Suspended Looping Confusion. I think a lot more people would like an SLC if the track was stretched out more. Take for instance Batman the Ride, and it has 5 inversions, but you do 3 right away, and than you take a break per say, and than you go for the last 2. There is no break in this ride at all. I tell you I rode that Thunderhawk when it was at Gaugea Lake, and I might have even rode it 3 times in a row, and I just didn't enjoy it. I was thinking that I just don't get it??
I kind of felt the same way after Rip Ride Rocket at Universal. I don't get it? The lift hill was the best part of that ride to me.
Surely, there has to be other people that think I just don't get it about a certain ride. I get Iron Wolf, but those 2 are in a league of their own. And what's the point of a non-inverting loop anyway?

While I know some people have no problem with Iron Wolf's removal, I will miss it. Any time a coaster leaves, even a rough one like Iron Wolf, it is a sad event. But, I've ridden it about 3 times within the past few weeks to get my last rides in (and many more in trips to come), and I have not experienced any headbanging. Maybe it's because I'm finally tall enough (6 foot 2 inches) that its not a problem anymore, but I've had some really good ride experiences. Anyway, Iron Wolf is a good standup coaster and has the title of the first B&M Coaster. It brings back some good memories from when I first started riding it in 2008. Plus it's best at night, feeling the breeze going through the trees. So, Iron Wolf, thanks for the 21 good seasons! You will be missed.

It's an absolutely miserable ride experience.
I dont know any older looper that doesn't have some element of head banging. It doesn't make it a bad ride but sometimes you do need to compensate for a rougher experience. Certain rides like Mean Streak are 100x worse than IW. The wooden coasters that are rough are almost impossible to compensate for, but the bumping going through corkscrews such as Demon and IW can be prevented for the most part
wishman35 wrote:Do people not know how to ride it?
That's the biggest mark against it. Sure we are all nerds here that know what to do, but the once a year crowd does not. Plus any ride where you have to ride X way to not get hurt is not that good to start with.
