Chang gone from SFGAm

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

If they must close it, close it with some really cool flats. Flats that will make eyes turn. Why add another coaster in areas that are not as popular as, say SFGAm.

The one thing that I'm confused about is why is SFGAdv so popular if they are located in the middle of nowhere?

SFGAdv is located between the #1 and #5 largest metropolitan areas in the country. 26,000,000 people live within 100 miles of it. Secondly it's a better park than SFGAm.

@BLADE

Don't you think that is a matter of opinion on which is the better park and who you ask?

Personally never been to SFGAdv. If you are strictly just a coaster person and or love seeing animals, it does seem SFGAdv wins. But if people love waterparks and flatrides, SFGAm would win out. I bring up the waterpark because SFGAm includes it with admission where as SFGAdv doesn't.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Ive heard from people that Great Adventures service is nothing compared as well. As someone once said "They got the rides, but lack the friendly."

You make some valid points. I can't compare waterparks because I went during frightfest. What I really liked about their flats was that they had ones we hadn't ridden before. What really set GrAd apart was the atmosphere and the best theming of any of the SF parks we have been to. It was more like how it was in the past here. They even had higher quality themed food.
Many of the workers we saw were retirees. They were way more friendly and outgoing than teenagers are. I had no problems with gangs or customer service.
The coaster collection is definitely better. I would suggest getting there someday. The GF and me both liked GrAd better than Busch Gardens Europe. GrAd is just a really well rounded experience. We both left thoroughly impressed.

The same can be said of almost any regional park that is seasonal. People claim SF Great America has happy/friendly employees but those employees were the minority. What I did see was teens and college age kids acting their age at a season job. Nothing wrong with that, but no different than other regional parks.

Well in any case, I'm sure that SFGAdv is a nice place. Of course GAm is located ba the #3 biggest city and one of the largest vacation destinations in the county, so I'm sure were almost as big a they are :)

Land area wise there is no comparison between SFGAdv and SFGAm. Also SFGAm may be close to the #3 city, SFGAdv sits comfortably between the #1 population center in the US and the #6. The place may be a hangout for gangsters and other undesirables far and wide, the park has no problem whatsoever with attendance generation, at least between the hours of 10:30am and sundown.

Yes, I know. All I'm saying is, getting back to the topic, I'm still not totally sure why they added another coaster. I may have asked this before. Does anyone have an answer to why they removed one to add one?

It's simple really, they sold de ja vu because of maintenance, then a year later, they bought Little Dipper, the timing is just a coincidence.....Kiddie Land's closing had Six Flags make a quick decision.

Great American Scream Machine was a pile of junk that didn't do much for the park. It's a shockwave clone. The former Chang was brought in to replace it. SfGrAd did not have a standup. I would assume it was brought there for better crowd control and may be the only "big" coaster to be available for a while. Six Flags additions this year seem to be more medium size and cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised if that trend continues.

^They're not really in a toilet, they just want to turn profits higher....More money they have the better they can improve other things around the parks...Maintenance on older rides especially.

The stocks for Six Flags are now higher than Cedar Fair. Over a year ago Six Flags (SIX) was almost worthless.

Yep, as of market close today SIX is at $59.30, that's the highest I've ever seen it. Last year it was worth pennies, and at the height of the Time Warner/Premeir era's the highest it ever got to was roughly $41 a share. For the first time basically in their history they are a financially healthy company. I personally don't like the new management at all, I liked Snyder/Shapiro much better, but no one can argue with results.

Yes, that is VERY good. I just hope that they are able to maybe add back the blood waterfall to Demon, or add more theming to RB, or plant some stuff under RB instead of a vacant lot (which seems to fit the theme anyways...but you know...).

Demon's waterfall won't be returning, it's not good for the track. When Raging Bull was announced, it was originally supposed to dive in and out of buildings, but budget cuts changed that....so the only actual themed building was the station.

I'd agree with you that Six Flags should make more of an effort for theming on roller coasters, but if it's not a DC character based ride, the theming is almost always non-existent.

^Yeah... stupid recession... Well, I for one think that no matter how much fun the ride is, if the area does not look good, or there is no theming whatsoever, I won't ride it :) Viper must be the second best themed in the park behind Superman. You guys agree?

Demon has theming, which is good enough. Iron Wolf has almost none. Batman the Ride is probably the best, Viper I'd put second.

Who knew grass and some faded character info signs were theme.

The Dark Knight would win the theme race if it wasn't for the Six Flags TV playing.

I remember back in the day when Viper had pretty awesome themeing, then piece by piece it basically all disappeared. It's down to a rustic looking station, and that little bit of stuff up front.

Of course during the entire Burke/Story era, themeing consisted of a cool sounding name and not much else, not that there is anything wrong with that, cause if you're not going to do it right, then don't bother doing it at all. Only problem is in the end it left all the original Six Flags parks looking like a mish-mash of different ideas. A good example would be our Vertical Velocity, it has no theme what so ever other than a cool sounding name and a ultra-modern looking sign out front, and it fits in with neither Yankee Harbor nor Gotham City across the way. Though if you really look into the matter no one since Marriott really took the themed areas into any consideration, Shockwave, Batman/Gotham City. Iron Wolf, Superman, Dark Knight, Roaring Rapids, Power Dive, etc are/were all out of place in their themed areas.

If you think about it though, Batman/ mini Gotham City really wouldn't have fit in anywhere unless it was made into a whole new area. Which now would have been perfect with Dark Knight being here.

Yeah, superman doesn't look all that great to me, especially since TDK was added....Superman, just like BTR, could use a power wash.

^It's not even the ride itself (which looks awful paint wise) it's the sad attempt at theme. Wood boards with cartoon charters was the best they could do? I'm not asking for Tower of Terror or Harry Potter land level of theme, but something better.
