I used to be big into K'nex, but not anymore. I, too have the old yellow, orange, and blue sets plus the original coaster, and the ferris wheel/swing/boom ride set.
I do remember at one time that a project was in the works to create a freefall tower type of ride. They even had a name picked out I believe but that project was so long ago, I don't remember much more about it.
Well... I built my coaster. And in the end I didn't use the boost or the ss train. I built a fun little wild mouse track. The only problem with it is that I made the hairpin turns too short so the car can't do the track. But I plan on making my own car. Not sure how I'm going to do it but oh well.
I don't think that I'll be coming out with pictures any time soon either.
Also, for the drop tower I can see how you made the cars go up. But how did they go down? And was their a brake on it?
I used a connector the grabbed the car up to the top, then it would go on the other side and the car would drop since it didn't have a connector holding it up. My wild mouse also had to tight of turns. Oh well.
I tried to make a Knex Shockwave but with lack of space and not enough pieces, I was unsuccessful. But I have 3 SS and 1 RR and hopefully this winter Shockwave is born again with 3 train operation, transfer track, and block braking.
I've given up all hope of completing my drop tower. Trying to make a car that's able to slide down is impossible.
I will now be turning back to my wild mouse coaster. I will fill probably the rr car's turning and add some waits to it, to allow it to get more speed.
I've created a 7 Ft. tall S&S drop tower simular to the Power Tower's design and CP. But I just operated with a cable going through the inside that is connected to the car on the outside. To make it go up and down you pull the cable toward you and a way.
I tried to create a lift system inside of the tower but I was trying to hook something from the train to chain and the train was on the outside of the track making it impossible to reach the top.
