Happy to report they have the tunnel sound effect turned back on in Batman’s queue!
Was happy to see such thin lines at the park today, even with all the ride/coaster closures.
Was able to get 5 quick rides on Maxx Force before the line got one full switchback full. I’ve only ever seen the ride this short opening after rain. But not for a full hour.
Also Goliath’s line started at the stairs. Even Sky Striker was a one cycle wait. I love school trip days!
Even if this guy isn't "reliable" or something, i could see this happening. Eagle put Great America on the map. holds 2 records, especially for dulling, was intamins first coaster, AND is getting an ACE Landmark status. This would be great to have done for the 50th as one of the "refurbishments".
Old Great America was better, however I hope just a bit of that charm comes back
Operating both sides (without racing) was all about budget. Salim slashed budgets and they didn’t have staffing or the budget to open both sides. Salim didn’t care if rides were closed in the park.
Zimmerman cares and our park president John has repeatedly said the goal is to have everything open every day.
It sounds like they are going to try and get both sides racing again next year for the 50th, but they aren't sure if it is possible yet.
They are also planning on building a brand new portal for Demon's entrance, designed by the same team that did the theme for Wrath. It sounds like the old Demon sign is going to be rebuilt behind Wrath's dive loop, right near where the path is currently blocked off for Wrath.
He was promoted to one of these regional positions. He will still be based at our park from my understanding but will oversees a few other parks as well.
Kind of similar to what Tony Clark is doing now, where he’s PR for multiple parks.
I talked with John a few times on Thursday (interview on the channel ), and also saw him in the park yesterday but did not speak to him. He made no mention of this news.
To my knowledge he is park president of SFGAm, HHC, HHR, and SFStL. SFGAm and HHC were probably a package deal when he took over after Hank passed in 2022. SFStL was 2023. Unsure when he took over HHR. So he fits the "new regional operating structure" and has already been doing it for at least 2 years now.
Six Flags has already been moving towards the "new regional operating structure". Like coasterfanatic said, Tony Clark received a new role to reflect this in March and now oversees Cedar Point, MiA and SFGAm. More similar to John on a park president level, Jeffrey Siebert just added SFOT to his parks within the past couple weeks.
Given this, I would like to think John is safe, but not sure / can't confirm.

Unrelated but I noticed yesterday that Goliath was hard closed. Neither train was on the track. According to queue times it closed around 2pm yesterday and has not opened yet today. Maybe something to keep an eye on.

From my understanding, the whole structure change is still in a bit of flux. There may be some one else from Great America that takes on a more day to day role of operations. (Because I imagine he won’t be around as much if he has other parks to look after) But John will still be based at our park and will have a huge presence and significant impact on the direction of the park.
If this just went public today, I imagine he wasn’t at liberty to discuss it when you saw him.
^ yes I agree, very much still in flux. I think I read the changes should be set by the end of June. The SoCal presidents are working through May.
Just want to clarify that I would not expect John to share that news with me or anything. He might have not even known, it looks like the news went live late yesterday evening. Just wanted to put that out there that I was blindsided just like everyone else. It was a shock hearing the news!

If I remember correctly, he mentioned to me that he would now be Park President at Worlds of Fun & Valleyfair as well now in addition to SFStl., SFHH Rockford and SFGAm/HH.

I was at the park yesterday. Thankfully i started the day off 4x on Goliath! I did see it closed later in the day with the chain and sign up at entrance but I didn't know why.
