Future Ride Speculation

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Dan The Coaster Man on February 18th, 2025, 6:08 pm
I don't know about the future of the backwards row/spinning cars on coasters. From a ride experience it is absolutely awesome, but from a park perspective, I'm not sure if the pros outweigh the cons. More often than not these seats go out empty. Look at Tonnerre 2 Zeus at Parc Asterix. It had paid backwards row, and then they made it free, and then they got rid of it completely and replaced it with a forwards row. The park went through the whole hassle to switch it back for whatever reason.

Since this hypothetical Mach giga would be the first in the country and as far as I know, the only coaster in the country with a backwards row, I think the park wouldn't have a problem filling it up, especially if it was free. They could even only put it on one train if it's really not that popular.

I know this is really random, but as a Rocky and Bullwinkle fan, I would love if the park somehow was able to secure the rights to bring them to the park. I know the park would probably rather use Peanuts or Looney Tunes, but since Universal doesn't own R&B entirely anymore, them coming to the park is a possibility.

I have some cool ideas I'm still developing for a land around them (with a ride that actually features Rocky and Bullwinkle themselves) but I thought I'd just throw this out there.

I mean the Looney Tunes have been at the park since day one so Great America is their home like how Knott's is to the Peanuts, so for that only i wouldn't want to seen any other characters taking the LT away.

Also with the ensemble cast, they have alot of untapped potential. Not trying to shoot you down @bluetoadcoasters, it's just my 2 cents
Old Great America was better, however I hope just a bit of that charm comes back

Specifically talking about DC Rivals, I went to movie world three times, sometimes legit just to ride that (all the Gold Coast parks are hella close to one another so I went on days I visited the other parks like DreamWorld) & The backwards row went empty quite often. It was $20 AUD so like $11/12 for us if I'm not mistaken. Which to me was worth it - twice. But I talked to a lot of people in line trying to convince them it's worth the money but really it is quite costly for them & 99% of them turned it down. I convinced two people. But those parks are expensive.

I do want to mention though that you get to skip the entire queue once you purchase it & head straight to the backwards seat. They also only sell a limited amount a day according to the village roadshow app, which is bizarre cause again, it went empty often.

It's def a gimmick though & people did purchase them at each park. The spinning seat on Steel Taipan was also an additional cost & I saw way more people riding that all day which oddly enough was also $20AUD while Leviathan at SeaWorld was only $10AUD & hardly anyone rode that one. So I have No idea how to average it out.

Many parks already opted to only do the backwards row / spinning car on one train. The point in charging for it is because if it was free then it would have an longer line, which hypothetically is not the end of the world since the front row always has a longer line itself, but at that point you are putting in all this time, effort, and money into something that is not generating extra money (I mean, unless they are selling extra park tickets, but that's hard to track).

I say all this and then it's revealed that the Wiener Prater Mack has a backwards row

It's pretty stupid to have a limit in my opinion. The only "limit" there should be is that you cannot buy the seat after the park's closed or before the park's open. As long as you hop in during operating hours, I think you should be allowed to ride.

I don't blame the people for not paying extra, if the backwards seat was $20 on our hypothetical Mack, I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't pay for it even once. I know that I'd definitely only ride in the back once a month at the most or once a season at the minimum. Now, if the seat was spinning, that would be even crazier and $20 would be worth it, especially since it would technically be the only spinning coaster at the park.

I wanna hear you turn either Camp Cartoon or Kidzopolis into a Rocky & Bullwinkle Land

I'd personally turn Kidzopolis into a Foghorn themed land to fit in with the rest of the Midwestern Atmosphere

Well now that Six Flags America is closing. Bring back Iron wolf and retheme it to Iron patriot! Hell, get rid of that stage and toss ragin' cajun in Kidzopolis too

Just kidding of course, but I do sincerely hope we get the sky screamer from Six Flags America for 2026

That might be a possibility since SF will probably not scrap that Sky Screamer, our park could use one and they could add it next year for little cost (Compared to buy it brand new). I know next year is for kids area, but if they transplant this ride to SFGAm, they could also add that in 2026.
-242 foot high would be within the parks height limits and would increase the parks skyline too.

SteamWhirler would also works as a unique flat ride that is only two years old. Could be re-themed for Southwest territory.

I have been hoping to see SFGAm add a Star Flyer for years, and we are one of the few parks that never added one. The 242 foot one from Six Flags America would be the perfect addition and would fit well in County Fair where Revolution was. Hopefully they can make that happen...if not for 2026, in 2027. Seems like it would be the perfect addition.

Same! I've been saying the same thing for a while. Unless the alleged Ameri Go Round is still on property in storage then i can totally see they Skyscreamer in the County Fair!

Same here! The sky screamer would be an awesome fit in county fair and would look amazing in revolutions old plot. I'm still surprised Great America and Magic Mountain never got one.

I thought of the Sky Screamer as well, I would totally be a fan of that. You could maybe even squeeze it in as a Condor replacement (not that I would do that, but I don't have long term faith in Condor)

Ryan the Ride Mechanic brought up a good point when it comes to the Sky Screamer. That might not be a cheap relocation since it involves a lot of below ground infrastructure that would need to be re-fabricated, that stuff can't be re-used.

Meaning that it might not be cost effective to move compared to just buying one brand new.

Guess we will see what is saved from SFA vs what is not. I'd wager Rajun Cajun and most flats will be alright since they're easy to move and reuse.

Most of the Coasters are probably screwed, Superman's new trains will go.... Somewhere.

It won't happen. But I would love to see Cajun return to Great America, with a speedy Gonzales theme in the Southwest territory. I always felt removing that roller coaster was a mistake because it was a great ride for the whole family.

Sadly, I have to agree. I think most of the coasters at Six Flags America are goners.

The one at Darien Lake cost around $2.1 million in 2018.

However, funtime (or whoever manufactures these) from what i've heard usually take a while to produce one starflyer, so it's much quicker to move one then ask for a new one, plus these rides are eye candy for any park that doesn't have one already.

How about this:

Put the Skyscreamer in Hometown Junk Machine's spot and call it : "Hometown High Flyer" !!!

The "fun machine" is essentially a weaker version of Fiddler's Fling with much less capacity

Also Rajun Cajun can go to Frontier City as that park desperately needs new rides!
