How fast is V2?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Really Really quick topic that will probably be deleted soon. Is V2 65 MPH or 70 MPH. Wiki says 70 and so does this site, but the actual stats at the ride on the small posters are 65. Just a quick thread.

I would just go with what the Six Flags Great America web site says which is 70 mph.

What does it launch at though? I thought it launched around 50 something MPH and then eventually sped up to 70 until braking. Maybe I'm thinking about another ride elsewhere.

I think I know what's happening here. I think V2 launches at 65 mph, then speeds up to 70 after the first time up the straight tower. If you ever pay attention to V2 on the spiral tower, the 2nd time it goes up, it goes up higher. So in this case, both the signs and Wiki/SFGAm World are right. The signs probably say the initial launch speed, and the sites say top speed.

This question always kind of bugged me.

I honestly think when the park says "0 to 70 in ____ seconds", they are referring to the train stalling at the tip of the spike, and then re launching up to the full speed. I did not study physics, so it's hard to say exactly how fast the first launch is. I would say that it does not exceed over 50mph. It only goes about half way up the spike on the first pass, so less then 70mph makes sense.

I would be surprised if it hit 35-40mph on the first launch. The second launch when you are launched backwards gets you up to 70, then each pass though the lims they fire to maintain speed. The last pass though is the only time during the ride when you actually coast.

I find it interesting how differently Wicked Twister operates.

I don't remember if it always ran this way, but there is no backwards launch on the first pass. You can hear the LIMs for a quick second but the train just coasts backwards. The second forward launch is what gets it up to the full speed.

Fast enough to throw me into the back of my seat and keep me there. V2 is one of the most intense rides in the park.
