Hurricane Harbor Fee...

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby anewman35 on March 13th, 2014, 8:40 pm
So in the Goliath thread the other day, there was a report that Hurricane Harbor might have a $5 fee in 2014 (for non-pass holders). Well, I was just looking around the FAQ on the park's website and found this:

What does my Six Flags Great America admission ticket include?
Six Flags admission ticket includes unlimited fun on rides, attractions and shows with the exception of special events and certain attractions that require a fee including Hurricane Harbor.

So I guess that's probably confirmation, then?

I guess so. Very disappointing. Hopefully this doesn't spread to season passes later on. They need to update the ticket page too because as of now there's no mention of Hurricane Harbor being a separate fee nor can you buy a HH ticket.

If they do this to season passes that would be a complete joke. That would cause there to be basically nobody in the water park then. They would end up losing money that way for paying the workers possibly if they do this and very few people actually go in the water park.

^ I doubt it would be that drastic. There are other parks in the chain who charge extra for a HH season pass, and they seem to be doing fine. What would happen is it would cut out the people like me, who only go in HH once or twice a year. I enjoy HH, but if it came down to it I wouldn't buy another pass for it.

Yeah, It's bad, But it could be worse; Our waterpark could be the size of Legoland's which charges $5 plus gate admission. Seems like a Win-Win to me. Forces more people to buy Season Passes (Either now or When they go on sale for 2015) and Season Passholders (Like Me) don't have to worry about it.

The little commercial on the Season Pass page still calls it a "free water park", they probably want to update it.

Anyway, even if they do at some point start requiring a special season pass for the water park, I doubt it'll be very hard/expensive to get - as an example, at Magic Mountain, where the water park is an entirely separate park with entirely separate admission, they have a deal right now where if you buy four season passes you get free water park passes too.

As somebody who never goes to HH, I couldn't care less. I still feel it was bad business marketing to have something that has always been free suddenly become an upcharge attraction

Eh, it might annoy some people, but I suspect they're going to end up making more money, because of lot of people will do it even if they're unhappy, and a lot of other ones will upgrade to season passes. I'm sure the pitch will be something like "$5 for admission, or upgrade to a season pass for just $20 more and visit both parks all season!"

While I didn't understand this move at first, I guess can see why they're doing it. They'll still fill HH even with a small fee and it'll bring them more season pass buyers. It doesn't really effect me either way because first of all, I'm a pass holder and secondly, I've never even stepped foot into HH in my life. I've gone to the park multiple times a year since HH opened yet I've never even been there because I'm allergic to chemicals (ex: chlorine) in pools and stuff. Hope this goes over smoothly.

Haven't been back since don't plan to either.

I did visit HH a few times back in 05, and 06. Since then I rarely go in there anymore. Even the expansion in 2011 did not make me go into HH. As a season pass holder, an upcharge to the once free waterpark does not bother me at all. I'm done with HH, I perfer the dry park. If it gets hot, I will go on RR, LR or YC. Screw HH.

This $5 upcharge wouldn't bother me at all. I only go to the waterpark once a year and I'm a pass holder. But it sure will bother people who don't have a season pass. I feel like HH will end up having a separate gate and admission in the future.

Six flags website has been updated to reflect the additional fee in various places. When you try to purchase a ticket it says at the bottom that additional fee is required for the water park. Also the video that plays for the seasons pass section has been updated to say FREE water park with Season pass. There are other changes as well.
