Eddie and Jobo Event May 16th

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I would rather walk barefoot on shards of glass than attend the park while it's in the middle of it's social commentary meant to raise awareness of our world's overcrowding/overpopulation issues. Kudos to SFGAm- it's a serious problem that gets little or no attention, and will only get worse going forward.

Even looking past that- it's bound to attract quite the motley crew; anytime the word free is even insinuated it does.

I'm goin media day the 10th but I was still planning on goin the 16th, then i wasnt gonna go & now Im thinkin might as well go now since I already scheduled it off work right? 500 crazies isnt bad at all. ill show up at 930 & it should be a normal day...

Youd think SF in general as a company wouldnt have attempted this to begin with when a park in THEIR CHAIN had a great issue with this kind of event. I knew our park was better than that AKA I was praying theyd come to their senses & realize they were!!

To say the park is "dumb" for holding an event like this is absurd. First off, The park may have never agreed to the full on "free" event. We don't know that and let's be honest...we probably never will! Secondly, if the full free event was held, the radio station and it's sponsors would pay at a premium for any extra staffing and even a certain price for lost admission. Great America would have made bank on an event like this considering they'd be getting paid, they'd be making money in concessions and souvenirs and whatnot in addition to whatever KHITS pays them AND the obvious free marketing and publicity! Does it suck for the GP and enthusiasts who want a peaceful day at the park? Yes! But guess what...they're open all summer! If you don't want to be part of the chaos, stay home and go again another day.

This is all true, but it won't wash the bad taste out of someone's mouth who doesn't visit often and catches the park at it's absolute worst. That's more important than the dollar amount earned for one day, even if it is a nice chunk of change.

How true. I've been to Great Adventure about 5 times between 1994-2003. I had a great time once - the first time; I was with great friends. The next few times were horrible. I went 2 times when they had Chiller and it was only open on one of those visits - only the Robin side. I will say that I am very grateful to have ridden that kick ass ride - with twist and lap bars - a bunch of times in a row on that visit.

The last time I went, Chiller was gone. The combined wait of the 2 *new rides* (Toro And Kingda Ka) was 5 hours. Five. One train on Toro (it was new, but the 2nd train was sitting in transfer). I broke down and purchased a flash pass to simply get on those 2 rides. I *DESPISE* the idea of paying to cut in front of other people. But I was desperate.

The park was AWFUL. So packed, the employees didn't even know if they had a water fountain; the one that knew they had water fountains didn't know where they were. Or the bathrooms. I got the 2 rides (Toro was *ok* Kingda Ka was fast and bumpy - literally, that's all) and got the hell outta that pit a of park.

The time before that, I actually left the park before noon it was so bad.

Fast forward to 2012; people tell me how great the park is run, etc. But it will still be a very long time before I go back. It was that bad.

I can understand why it should be crowded, but do you all really think everyone is going to take off a work/school to go to Six Flags mid week in May?

Maybe, I wouldn't be surprised ...but I dont think I would ever waste vacation or PTO for it..

^^Gotta look at it at a business standpoint...Let's say 1,000 unexpecting people come to the park that day. Half of those simple minded people won't give a damn, a quarter will probably have season passes and not care and will come back some other day, and the other quarter *might* have the same view as you. Not sure the park gives two hoots about 250 people not coming to the park again. Obviously, the figure may be plus or minus a certain amount, but how many people go to the park mid week in mid May anyway?

^Yes. People find great excuses to call in sick in the name of free. I worked security at Woodfield Mall for the Kardashian appearance at Sears and heard some of the wildest excuses parents gave to have their kids meet a bunch of talentless hacks instead of do some book-learnin. And THAT was a free event!

That is looking at it from a business standpoint. It's looking at it from exactly the same perspective as utilizing 2 or 3 train operation to keep the lines moving, maintaining rides to avoid downtime, emphasizing cleanliness, all of those things that people will complain about on boards such as this one if something is even a hair below their standards.
The most important thing to an amusement park operator is ensuring future visits. The money you payed for admission is already yesterday's news to them. They're going to do their damnedest to make you want to keep coming back. I've read comparisons to something similar that SFOG did. There were a lot more than just 250 people pissed off at how that turned out. Even if it was just 2 people, in a customer service job that's 2 people too many.

Well, they could *try* to do what Holidayworld, Knoebel's and *even* Dollywood and the Busch parks do... *scratches head* ... ehhh.. forget it  I think we might be years past salvaging that. Six Flags has really thunk themselves into a corner.
