Daredevil Dive

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

When was Daredevil Dive built in relation to when Southwest Territory was built? Which came first because I remember when they built DDD but I never went to the park before SWT. And the reason I ask is because I'm trying to figure out if I was ever there when Ricochet was still Big Top, which if there are any pictures of, I would like to see please.

Ricochet opened in 1996, Giant Drop and Daredevil Dive in 1997.

BP19 is correct, however also Big Top was closed and partially disassembled for all of 1995 in it's former location.

Alright thanks. Now, another thing: why does the design of ricochet feature cow spots in hand mirrors on the center part of the ride?

Ameri-Go-Round was there from 76-2003. It was a really nice PTC carousel that operated in Kentucky since almost the turn of the century, that unfortunately had no purpose at the park since the icon at the front of the park is obviously a carousel. For as long as I was going to SFGAm, which was chronically since 2000, Ameri Go Round was often closed and for many years only operated on weekends and when it was operating it was totally dead. It was put in storage in brown freight containers under SUF, I am unsure if they are still there or not.

I know that when Ameri-Go-Round was taken out for Revolution that it stayed on the property in what I would guess the boneyard, is it still there? And if so is it still in operating condition?

Each one of the Southwest Rides has a motif based around Different people who had an impact on the Great Southwest. Chubasco, with a Spanish name and inside a Spanish mission is obviously in reference to the Spanish who occupied the area, most notably California. Trailblazer is obvious, the pioneers who took Manifest Destiny to heart and blazed that trail out into the unknown! River Rocker, is a Native American Canoe, and Ricochet, obviously named for the Ricochet of a bullet as well as the oscillating motion of the cars, is themed to cowboys, with various horse and saddle vignettes in the queue and surrounding areas. Even Giant Drop is themed to miners and the Gold Rush. Viper and Raging Bull obviously fit the themes as well, but they don't fall into place nearly as well as the flats in the area.

God, I miss Trailblazer.
Captain, don't shake the passengers up too much this time!
Just giving them their money's worth!

^Southwest Territory is definitely the best themed area in the park, one of the reasons being that it really has not been touched within the past 12 years or so, and we all know how Six Flags these days can not integrate a ride into a themed area if their lives depended on it. :P
