What's up with the sign not working this year? It gives people on the highway information that they might not know. It also shows that the park is actually OPEN!! There might some straglers that look at that sign, and think that it's not open. Does the light even shine on it at night.
Don't tell me that the park wants to get a new sign for next year, and they don't want to fix this one. Also, for these lit signs like this, why don't all the places that have them put plexiglass in front of them, or something to protect them. I notice that they are always just lights in which all weather can get to them. These signs are everything from a bank, Walgreens, to this sign.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
Or its just really really old... things do need to get completely replaced once entire systems fail and to fix it everything would need to be replaced...
The technology used for the message portion of that sign is very old and expensive to maintain since it still used light bulbs. The new signs are LED and while they're somewhat expensive to buy the maintenance costs are much less since bulbs don't have to be changed.
Given the height of the sign I would guess that SF contracted someone to do maintenance on it.
^ The sign used light bulbs? I guess I never payed that much attention to it. I thought it was digital or something like that. (I'm not good at all with mechanical stuff!)
"And that farm girl walked off with slippers off a dead woman? She must have been raised in a barn!" ~Wicked, an excellent musical
I think most people who are going to Six Flags have a pretty good idea of the park's hours before they leave the door.
I think the sign is the main pulling point, the extra info is just iceing on the cake. Not many people are going to see that there is a certain show playing and pull off the highway to see it.
As has been said above, it's getting replaced, but the current one is quite old and critters tend to make it their home. Also it's dangerous and hot inside and might be a threat to the workers. I don't see any major overhaul being done to it again barring that the new sign gets axed.

I would think the exact opposite digger I would think that they would do it themselves. Their maintenance crew isn’t afraid of a heights, I’ve seen a guy ride the catcher up tower 1 on Dejavu all the way to the top!!!
The technology that the tollway sign uses is circa 1974, and its old and outdated. And thousands of lightbulbs than need replacing is a hassle. Back then it was the way to go, but now why bother?
There is so much better technology out there. Like LED color screens, flourescent lighting, and digital message generators.
Remember that Mark Shapiro was talking about non-ride capital improvments over the next few years. A new sign falls under this (wink wink)
