SFGAM Fright Fest 10/4/08

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby jm2775 on October 4th, 2008, 5:36 pm
Went to the park from open till 4pm....will be going back shortly. The park looks REALLY good.

Some notes:
> They are pushing the $69.99 2009 pass heavily. Signs everywhere.
> Buccaneer Battle is promoted at the Pass Processing center.
> The line for the first 3:15 Love at First Fright was HUGE! Capacity crowd. Great show as usual. Some cast changes, with Sarah Palin, Brett Favre and even Edward Cullen jokes.
> Dead Mans Party moves to the Snowshoe Revue by Mooseburger.
> Area 51 is in the front, with Cell Block A under SSA. Costs $5, free with Season Pass.
> Progress being made on Buccaneer Battle site. Some ground movement.
> Scareactors come out at 3pm, with the Freak Parade
> Necropolis opens at 2pm. Didn't go thru yet.

Onto some pictures:

Nice pics! i was there today as well. I saw LAFF too, those changes were really interesting this year.As for the park, It seems like they really stepped it up some with the decorations this year. Today was basically a spectator day for me since i was alone, I will probably go back tomorrow with family.

One thing i noticed that this year they still have Pumpkin head at the front of carousel, but it wasn't running while i was there UNLESS it was running at longer intervals than it was last year, maybe I'm wrong and wasn't around long enough to see it run lol. Anyways, It looks like its going to be interesting this year.. :)

I went back tonight...tried to see Dead Mans Party at 8:15, got there 25 min prior, and the venue was full. Very limited seating in there, so if you want to see it, get there 30+ min prior.

Quite long for most coasters...the park was pretty full at nite. They were using the Detour for Necropolis thru Loggers to stagger the line. Most lines were full. Some of the flats were short. We walked on Hometown Fun Machine, Triple Play, and The Birds. Waited about 20 for Wizzer.

I enjoyed the LAFF changes. Lots of new cast, some in new roles. Great job overall!

When I left at 4, I hadn't seen Pumpkin Head guy working either. When we got back at around 7, he was working and seemed to be going off at least every 10 min.

One note, they are using wristbands for re-entry. You are not allowed to re-enter after 7pm this year.

I love the new "The birds" sign. Were there sky whirl cages again? Was Fiddler's Fling Fiddler's Flung or Space Command? Oh, and was all of Demon's theming up? Sorry for so many questions but I'm curious.

I, too, love the new Birds sign. It is highly detailed, with those black birds all over the place.

There are 4 sky whirl cages sitting in the middle of the new Area 51, by SSA. You can sit in them this year.

It is Fiddlers Flung. There is no alien type stuff in County. Its all in the back.

All of Demon's theming is up. I didn't get any pictures. DOH!

Thanks! I've got to get some pics in the cages this year. I( might be exaggerating but sounds like this is gonna be the best FF since '05

I was there also today. I'm surprised no one is talking about the Great America Raceway, it had NO THEMEING this year. It is usually called Hersey Highway for Fright Fest.

To me it didn't seem all that crowded today. I had the Flash Pass and the chick working the Dark Knight let us go on even though we were like 5 minutes early. Also the one gargoyle by Hometown Square usually has blood gushing out of his mouth and they didn't have that this year.

Cell Block A was stupid. Not worth the $5 or your time as I am a season pass holder
Rise of the Demon was good.

All in all I had a good time. Question, did the prices of Flash Pass go up since August. I believe it was 39 for 2 and now it is 49. Can someone let me know if the prices changed.

Thanks and have a safe and happy Halloween

They might still add on some stuff inbetween weekends. That's still strange and could be an indicator that it's time is short. I'll have to get on it a lot while I can.

I was out at the park from open till closed. So, figured I would add some pics and comments to this TR instead of making my own.

As others have said, the park did a great job this year with the decorations. I also saw the 8 PM show of LAFF. It was a packed house, and the show was great.

Now, onto some of the pictures I took.

As someone said, the park is pushing the 2009 passes. Here is one of the many signs in the park.

2296

Yes, Flidders Fling is Flidders Flung

2298

Eagle's station. Looks a lot better at night

2297

Entrance to Tinsletown

2299

More FF theming

2308

2309

2310

Banners for Buccaneer Battle

2300

2303

And the ride area so far. Not really much to see..just a lot of dirt being moved and holes in the ground.

2301

2302

2304

2305

2306

2307

Went and saw the first showing of the Freak Show in Southwest Territory. In the first picture, the Professor is trying to light a cigarette using the sparks / heat from a piece of metal. The piece of metal was being held by the other guy, who was also holding an electric grinder. Unfortunately, the cigarette did not light, but it did offer for a great picture.

2311

At the end of the show, people from the crowd can go up and staple a $1 bill to the Professor. As you can see, lots of people took advantage of this

2312

Next few pictures are from Necropolis

2316

2315

2314

2313

Finally, a shot of the reflection pond as I was leaving the park a bit after 10 PM

I paid $80 for two flash passes in June so what $49 do you mean?
Do they make announcements at closing time telling you the park is about to close?

Alright, just so someone can clarify, the Area 51 is now in the SSA area.

So do non-season pass holders have to fork over 5 bucks to go in the general area of Area 51 or is this just for that Cell block A that is being discussed?
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

You only need to pay/have a season pass to get into Cell block A, the rest of area 51 is open to anyone.

I HIGHLY recommend terror twister(chubasco) definitely a whole different ride. Demon at night was also amazing.

I didn't go to any of the shows but I noticed many were queuing upwards of 30 mins prior to each show, so get there early.

also, Condor, King Chaos, and Revvy are all operating with much more intense ride cycles.
