Six Flags Great Adventure 8/12/08

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Mr. Oscar on August 18th, 2008, 5:04 pm
Hello all,
Seeing as this is my first TR, forgive me if it is god-awful. I'll get better with time.
Well, we (mi padre y yo) met up with Chris Chavan, who works at the park (he is Coasterfreak11892 on youtube). We met him at the arcade going into Movie World, and we went on our way to credit whoring. Our first stop was Batman, and that provided a good ride. We were in the second row. After riding that, we went over to Skull Mountain, and rode in the back row. That was a surprising ride, because we got amazing airtime off the first drop and waved to a pumpkin :D . Next we went over to Road Runner, which actually wasn't a bad kid's ride. Our last kiddie ride (Batman is not included in the group) was Blackbeard. It was a good ride, with lots of jerking on the left side.
Then started the big kid rides. Our first one of that sort was Rolling Thunder (left side). We got second-last row, and the air-time was great. Next up was THE El Toro. I can honestly say that this was not only the best ride of the day, but the best ride I've EVER been on. We got ejected from the seat on the 76* drop from the back... amazing. After that, we went to Medusa. I believe we were in row 4. It was a really good ride. Good to go to after lunch.
This was when it got really fun. After Medusa, we went over to Superman, my first time on it, and wouldn't you know it, we got stuck in the brake run for about 20 minutes. After we got moved to the holding pad (while another train takes off) we got stuck there. We ended up getting Exit Passes, which we then used on the Dark Knight. Unlike all of the bashers, I actually enjoyed the ride a lot. For all of you who bash it, the only advice that i can give you is to accept it as a wild mouse, and a very good one at that. Next we went over to ride NItro, which was the ride that i was most afraid to ride. This was our longest wait of the day, about 45 minutes. I loved this ride. The airtime was great, the hammerhead was awesome, it had the second-best helix i've ever been on. We got a reride on it, and rode it in the back. It was incredible.
Then came the time for what i went there for... KINGDA KA!!! It loomed over everything ever since i came into the park (i could see it from Nitro). We got in line in no time at all, and waited all of maybe 1-2 trains before ours came. We got up to the launch, and my legs were quiverring. Chris and Mike (little brother) gave us a countdown, and i almost passed out. I'll spare the rest of the details, just by saying that the ride was awesome.
After that adrenaline rush, we figured that Chris only had 1 ride left, and we saw that GASM was a walk-on (it had a 30-45 min wait earlier). So we chose that to go on, and i must say, it was a great way to close out the day
Once we finished our goodbyes, me and my dad headed over to Batman, for a second ride (my dad passed). I waited about 10 minutes for back row, which was the most crowded (even moreso than front). It was an awesome ride, and i still have some occasional lapses to this day biggrin.gif. Then I went over to Rolling Thunder to ride the right side, which had the biggest whiplash i've ever had (until the Cyclone... but maybe more) on the first turn. That was overall a good ride. On a funny note, a little kid behind me was riding with his dad, and he said that Rolling Thunder was 3 times as fast as El Toro...
Our final ride of the day was the Runaway Mine Train, which was actually a good ride at night. It had broken down earlier in the day. Overall, it was a good ride.
Me and my dad finished off by shopping for souvenirs. We got 4 shirts and a glass.
Thanks to all who waste their time reading this and if you could critique, that'd be great

If you get there, ride it. Wait for the front row... you won't be sorry. We went in second row, and it was not at all like i expected, not as exhilarating. But still an awesome ride.

Yeah, deffinetly ride Kingda Ka. It's not as scary as it looks. In fact I rode it by myself the first time.

I got extremely psyched to ride it as soon as I got there, and when I got there, I looked up and was like "woooooooooah". I ended up working my way (down, then) up, starting with BTR.

Yeah, thats what i'd do. I always make my way up to the big rollercoasters at our six flags, but now I can go on any first. The only thing I haven't rode is giant drop.

I always talk about going on Kingda ka, but when and if I ever go there and it comes to the time, I will probably be too scared.

Just do it. Heck, I did it, and I've never been on Raging Bull, AE, (our) SUF (I got stuck on theirs :D), (our) BTR, IW, Demon, heck, even Whizzer. But I was able to work my way up. Really the one that did it for me, where i was like "ok, i can do this" was Nitro.

lucky!!! I just got back from there and lines were so bad we only got on six rides all day :( As for Kingda ka, it's not scary, no where near it, it's over before you even realize it started. If you want scary, go ride some rides on the Stratosphere in Vegas, those were scary to me! Not bad for your first TR Mr. Oscar, glad you got to ride everything, how did Dark Knight, SUF, and Batman compare to ours?

I know they're the same in terms of layout, but I've heard that their Superman seemed smoother and their Dark Knight was even worse in terms of layout inside than ours is. I was just curious if those were true.

Their BTR was extremely smooth, especially from the back. I haven't ridden ours at all, so i can't make a good comparison, but i can say that their's was really smooth.

What did you all get on? El toro had a HUGE wait, and so did KK, but other than that, GASM had a 40 min wait at one point  and they let us use the exit passes we got from SUF for TDK.

The DK layout is the same at Great Adventure and about SUF, I could not tell a difference in smoothness.
