Wisconsin Dells TR 6-19-07

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby EagleFan344 on June 20th, 2007, 1:11 am
Left Rockford about 7:45. Met up with themanoftheland8 in Madison then drove the rest of the way to the Dells. By the time we bought our wristband it was just after 10am. We decided to go to Zeus first.

Zeus - Wooden coaster with decent airtime, but quite rough. Wasn't a fan of it. Only rode it twice all day.
4/10

After that, we decided to go on Hades. Back row.

Hades - Lived up to high expectations. Only wooden coasters ahead of it in my opinion are El Toro and Voyage. The pre-lift part was great, good airtime. The tunnel was good, I could tell where the 90 degree turn is, but probably wouldn't know if I wasn't expecting it. Awesome coaster that never lets up in intensity. Wait was usually 30-50 min during the day. This was also my 100th coaster. Rode this 6 times.
9/10

Over the rest of the day we just rode the coasters and go-carts til about 3:30 then headed to lunch.

Cyclops - Wow wasn't expecting it to be this good. There is a good reason that you have to be 18 to sit in the back. The airtime on this thing is insane, and feels out of control. A lot of this is due to the fact that it has buzz bars. Also loved the 18 law because the wait for the back was non-existant. Rode this 8 times.
7/10

Pegasus - Meh. No airtime at all. Boring.
3/10

Opa - Like Ragin Cajun, but the cars barely spun if at all.
3/10

Dive to Atlantis - Did not go on this ride due to the fact that it was not that hot out and didn't feel like getting completely soaked. It was also closed for a majority of the day. Oh well.

After lunch at Arby's, we headed to Timber Falls at 5:00 to ride Avalanche. Price was only $15 compared to $20 to get in after 5pm. We were going to do mini-golf also but kinda forgot while on Avalanche.

Avalanche - I was expecting greatness, and it prevailed. This coaster does not look like much, but it packs on hell of a punch. It's quite simple. Lift hill, drop then just a lot of airtime hills and left turns. Got some intense bruises on the side of each of my thighs from this thing, since we rode it so much. Awesome ride, its on Hades' level.
9/10

We left Timber Falls at about 6:45 then headed back to Mt. Olympus to ride Hades til 9, when Mt. Olympus closed. We then went back to T-falls til the 10pm closing time. By the end of the night we had accumulated 84 rides on Avalanche.

Probably the funnest day of my summer so far. Dells coasters were great and definitely worth the drive and price of admission. Go there.

News and Notes:
Hades could really use a 2nd train.
All the rumors about Mt. Olympus employees were in fact true.
These bruises really hurt.

Ride Totals:
Hades: 6
Cyclops: 8
Zeus: 2
Pegasus: 1
Opa: 1
Avalanche: 84

Total: 102
Coaster Count: 128
#1 Coaster: El Toro

Might I remind you that waiting for Dive to Atlantis is like waiting in line to sit on an inner tube in a pool... But, taking all things into consideration, I guess that is still better than V2...

You also seemed to forget that we rode Avalanche 50 times in a row, which is my personal record for one coaster... (beating my previous, which was 29 in a row on Demon)

Oh, and we calculated the average cost per ride on Avalanche, and it came out to be about 19 cents per ride. The tickets costed $6 per ride. I'm pretty sure we came out on top with that one.
Coasters Ridden: 131
Top 5: Maverick, El Toro, Voyage, Fahrenheit, Dominator

I've been on Zeus and Cyclops and I hate both of them. They are both too rough. I don't know how you can like Cyclops, because doesn't it hurt you when you go around that turn after that big drop near the end? They don't even bank it and the stupid thing turns after making that big drop. Big mistake. My head rattles insanely during that time and that's why I hate that sucker to death. Zeus is even worse. Although, I haven't been there in a few years and thus haven't rode Hades, I still don't think they would learn from their idiotic mistakes in coaster designing with Hades and I believe it will be rough if I ever ride it. But maybe not. Hopefully not, because even though I think all wooden coasters at that park will be rough like the three they had the last time I went, I never learn.

I did try it in the back. I used to ride Cyclops even though it was rough, because, um, I was an idiot? I don't remember why. But during that stretch, before I finally came to my senses and asked myself "why?", I had rode it in the back on a few occasions. And yeah, all wooden coasters are at least "a little rough", if you mean by American Eagle's standards, which until last year (when it seemed to roughen up more) was the smoothest woodie I ever rode, hench why I loved it. I loved it even more backwards and I was fumed to find out they took that feature out. But anyhoo, I even think Pegasus is rough, for what that's worth.

Why rip the park for Hades when you havent even ridden it??

Cyclops to me was a excellant ride with great ejector air!!! I didnt find the ride to be rough at all.

If one wants to rip Mt Olympus it is easy to do when you look at the low quality of help they have and there complete lack of caring about safety and 8im just surprised no one has died at that park yet!!! Its great how Timber Falls gives you numerous rides on Avalanche with no waits, yet Mt Olympus made us wait to even ride Zeus/Cyclops till the train was almost completely occupied. Its just sad that the park has 3 very good wooden coasters and workers that are worse than any you would see at a low rent carnival.
And worse yet was the fact they werent operating Medusa's Drop which was the best IMHO go-kart track in the park!!

I'm not ripping the park for Hades. I'm ripping the park for the other coasters. Hey, I love Mt. Olympus. I love the go-karts. The last time I went, Family Land was still around and they hadn't bought them out yet, so it didn't have a water park. But the coasters are too rough for my liking. Like I said, next time I'm able to go back there, I'll probably try out Hades. Hopefully, it will prove to be the black sheep of all the woodies in that park and by that I mean an actually enjoyable ride.
