Cedar Point 10/13 & 10/14

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby zjohn1988 on October 15th, 2006, 9:02 pm
This past Friday and Saturday I went to Cedar Point for Halloweekends. Friday's hours were 6pm-Midnight. Saturday's hours were 12pm-Midnight.

Friday was cold up there and the park was pretty much dead (no pun intended). Most coasters were open, but more were closed that listed on the starlight ride options. We managed to get on all the coasters open except iron dragon. Mantis was our final ride of the night.

Lair of the Vampire Haunted House: There was maybe a 5-10 minute wait. It was okay, not much happenned.

Pharaoh's Secret Haunted House: Again the wait was under 10 minutes. It said it was in 3-d, but no 3d glasses were being handed out.

Undertaker University Haunted House: 5 minute wait. It was the best of all 3, but it wasnt very dark inside the house.

Fear Faire: Its new this year and its kinda cool. There was a lot of fog mixed with light effects (along with the other walk throughs) and you couldnt see anyone or anything. There were also a lot of props and scenery. Most the creatures had a hard time scaring people since nobody was around.

Carnevil: Let me just say that if anyone goes, look out for the monkey with the symbols. He jumps out of nowhere and slams the symbols right in your face or your ears.

Fright Zone: Its a lot like Necropolis but theres more creatures, its darker, larger, and al the monsters go after you. Its fun trying to make your way from Maverick to Millennium Force..

Werewolf Canyon: This was pretty cool. The raft ride is completely drained and the parts to make the water go everywhere are taken out. Werewolf canyon is actually inside the trough for the raft ride so your walking inside the actual ride. Its freaky at first when you think "what if" water sarted pouring in? But anyways, theres alot of wolves and fog and they hide behind the trees and you cant see them jump at you. There was maybe a 15 minute wait, but i didnt mind since i got some great views of Maverick.

Wicked Twister had no wait, but one of the infared beam broke so it was closed for most of the night.

Raptor was closed due to high winds, along with maxair.

Magnum XL 200 had a few people in the station.

Corkscrew was closed, Gemini was closed, Mean Streak was closed.

Skyhawk was the longest wait of the night. It was probably 20-30 minutes. one arm broke a few weeks ago, so instead of 40 seats, theres only 20.

Millennium Force had a line just outside the station. I used to really hate this ride, but its getting better. Its still nowhere near my top 10 though.

Top Thrill Dragster had a 15 minute wait just outside of the station. it had a quick break down the second time we rode, but the operators were able to reset the ride without maint. comming out. (why cant sf do that..?)

Wildcat was closed.

Power Tower was running 1 launching down and 1 launching up. We rode launching up one time.

Mantis was our last ride and i expected it to be terrible..but like Mille, im starting to like it more. I hate to say it, but i think it finally passed iron wolf in my opinion.

Overall it was a cold fun night. It was worth the $25 tickets (except we still payed $10 for parking).

10/14 It was PACKED most of the day. Lines averaged 45 minutes each. Gemini was racing with a full queue, TTD was full, Magnum was almost full, Mean Streak had switchbacks open for an hour wait, and Millennium Force also had a very long wait. Disaster transport was 30 minutes, Maxair was 30 minutes, Blue Streak was 20 minutes, and corkscrew used all of their queues with 3 trains on the track for another long line. Raptor was the worst line, even at 10:00pm. The wait was almost 2 hours..Iron Dragon was 45 minutes and Wildcat was 30 minutes.

The haunted house lines were horrible. Pharaoh's Secret had a full line and also had queues outside troika and it passed Maxair.

We went on some flats but the ride cycles on the older rides are very short. And Matterhorns restraints are pointless, as they do not lock at all...Sky Tower opened up diring the day as the winds died down. Sky Ride remained closed.

After raptor, people began to leave due to the cold air and wind. We rode Magnum again and then went to TTD at 11:50pm. We rode on the last red train just past 1:00am in the 1st row. Our speed said 122 and i got nailed really hard by the dumb water shooting off of the launch cable.

Something i really liked was the shops. They have shirts for all the major rides. There were so many different shirts i had trouble picking some out. They even had iron dragon shirts...i think the only one i didnt see was wildcat.

Finally, everyone was stopping to see Maverick. It is really really low in height...even Gemini is higher......but everyone seemed to be "amazed" by the 95 degree drop. They were beginning to form the pond under the horseshoe loops and i think it will be a big hit next spring.

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

How do the haunted houses compared to SFGAm's? Do you have to pay for them?

Sounds like you had a great night on Friday at least. Too bad about MaXair and especially Raptor though. Raptor is my favorite CP ride. Strange that it was down for wind yet TTD was running.

I'm curious how, say, U.R. Dade at CP compares to Mausoleum of Terror. I opted not to do MofT because of the fee, but I felt since you did have to pay, it would be better than the free haunted houses at CP. Is it?

Also, you must be the only person ever who has said they have ever hated MF. I like it but, in all honesty, I prefer the Bull. That first drop and second hill on MF is awesome though.

I feel that MF is too fast to feel the airtime hills. The last 1/4 of the ride (and the 1st drop) are the only parts i enjoy. I dont get scared usually in haunted houses. I enjoy watching other people get the crap scared out of them. If i had to compare, in my opinion, MoT at SF is better than Undertaker U. Otherwise CP has the haunted houses beat. The fright zone is better than Necropolis. SF has monsters all over the park scaring you, which i like. CP only has them in certain areas. CP also has monsters in the front, and they dance and interact with the kids, more than at SF. Besides the scary stuff, there is a lot more shows, and halloween things to do than at SF. Something i really love about the scenery at CP for Halloweekends is every ride which has been removed has a gravestone put out. Everyone really seemed to enjoy seeing that.
I did get on Maxair and Raptor saturday btw and yes the haunted houses were free.

i really liked that too....it was really cool to see what they used to have, since i had never been there before

i do think that CP's fright zone was better than necro, but i was so scared that i cried...

I agree, I mean it's a good ride, but it seems as if the ride ends instantly. If it was longer I'd enjoy it more. (I donno the quick chain lift could be throwing me off.)

But nice trip report. I think that's really cool that they drain the raft ride and use it as a haunted attraction. That'd be pretty sweet if they did that with blood river, just imagine what they could do with the cave.
