Geauga Lake & Cedar Point: Aug. 16-17

Let us know how your day at the park was.

Geauga Lake: August 16th

We got to the park around 10:20. I got inside the park at 10:30 and headed straight for my fifth favorite coaster (though it may have changed after yesterday), Dominator. The day before, I almost felt like how I felt the night before I first rode it, I was pretty eager to ride it. I started off with front row which was a one train wait. Amazing ride of course. I got back on 4 more times, and after buying a Dominator shirt, I went on another 5 times.

Next I decided to ride Raging Wolf Bobs which was a 5 minute wait for the back. Good ride but rough. Next up was Villain 2nd row which also had a little wait. Okay, they supposedly rehabbed this ride recently right? It's a lot worse than it was in 2004 when I went. I decided not to go on again today because it was just horrible. I love the ride but the roughness just ruins it.

Double Loop was next... not much to say. Then I decided to ride Big Dipper since I hadn't been on it before. It actually had a 15 minute wait, the longest wait of the day. When I heard that it was 80 years old, I got nervous, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. The really bad part was when my seatbelt came undone on the last turn... Not sure what to rate this ride, I'd give it a 6 or a 7 out of 10. It had some interesting airtime...

I went on Head Spin next, one train wait for 2nd row. It's a boomerang and I enjoy boomerang coasters... I went by X-Flight and found out that it had just broke down. I waited a few minutes, and then we found out that it was going to be a while. I headed over to Dominator and rode it 5 times. Then I went on Americana, their ferris wheel, to get some pictures of the park (mainly Dominator).

After eating, I went by X-flight to check things out. I was starting to think that it was closed for the rest of the day, but now it was open. I rode it twice, the bad part was going up the lift because the sun was in everyone's eyes, also my hair kept blocking my view.

I went back by Dominator and rode it 10 more times. Then I went on Thunderhawk because it FINALLY had no line (earlier it was the longest line in the whole park, it was ridiculous). I was in the back, but I prefer front row because it's a better ride. Then I rode Dominator 5 more times, making it what, 30 rides on it so far that day.

I walked around a bit, and decided I didn't feel like riding anything but Dominator. I went back over there, and after a few rides I found out that someone had a record of 66 rides on it in one day. I knew I wouldn't beat it, but I still felt like getting on it as much as possible. I ended up riding 17 more times, the last two times being in the front. It's awesome at night in the front.

So it was a pretty good day. I got on Dominator more than I expected, and since it was sunny out I got great pics of it. On the way back to the hotel we got lost...

Dominator - 47
X-Flight - 2
Villain - 1
Double Loop - 1
Raging Wolf Bobs - 1
Head Spin - 1
Americana - 1
Big Dipper - 1
Thunderhawk - 1
Total - 56

Cedar Point - August 17th

We got to the park around 10:30. I started off with Wicked Twister since it had an extremely short wait. Waited 5 minutes for the back, great ride. Since I had never been on it before, I decided to ride Disaster Transport. It was a 20 minute wait, and it was pretty awesome since you don't know where you're going most of the time. I'd give it a 7/10.

I decided I'd ride TTD because the wait didn't look too horrible. I waited 50 minutes for the back. It was quite a rush, but maybe not as exciting as I remember. Then went by Magnum, and only waited 8 minutes for the back. The whole ride, I was thinking, I don't remember this being this awesome! I got right back on for another ride in back row. Seriously, it was more awesome than when I went on it a couple years ago.

Then I headed over to Mean Streak... Yeah, Villain is clearly worse than Mean Streak. Villain's also worse than Screamin' Eagle! I guess Eagle was nothing compared to Villain. Anyway, I was near the front on Mean Streak, and it was a good ride. I was walking past Skyhawk and noticed the new coaster being built... I took pictures of what was visible, a helix of some sort or something. I'll post later.

Next was Millennium Force. I waited about an hour and went in the back row. Wow, I think now I actually like this better than TTD. Amazing ride. Next, I waited around 40 minutes for Mantis. Not as smooth as it was before, but still awesome. Then I quickly got on Iron Dragon, which was more fun than I remember. I got sprayed a little.

Then went by Power Tower hoping the line was much shorter than earlier... and ended up walking on the red side. I went by maXair also hoping that the line was shorter than earlier, but it wasn't. I only waited 15 minutes though. It's a pretty fun ride, I'll give it a 8/10. Then I waited for Raptor, it was about a 30 minute wait. The birds must not like this ride, I saw what looked like a lot of bird crap on the supports.

Next, I wanted to try out Demon Drop. It was starting to make me nervous while I was in line, and once at the top I was pretty scared. But it was okay, a 6/10. Not as great as I expected it to be. I went on Blue Streak next, which was a 5 minute wait... I love this ride.

I was walking past TTD to go to Magnum. TTD was closed, and it looked like it was going to be a while because everyone was leaving the line. I ended up riding Magnum 3 times because I really was enjoying it that day. I can't get enough of Magnum. During that period of time TTD was rolling back, I witnessed one rollback, and it didn't even make it to the top it was going so slow.

I decided to ride Dragster next, and tried for the front row. The whole line was shorter than earlier, but I still waited an hour for the front. I got on earlier than I originally would've because there was a single rider waiting for the front. I was really excited to be in the front row. This was a WAY better experience than earlier today. It was amazingly mind blowing. Front row is definitely worth it, especially at night.

It was after 9 and I went over to MF for one last ride. I was planning to ride in the front. Once I got in line, it broke down! It took about 10-20 minutes, and almost half of the people in line left. It was fun waiting though, people in the line were entertaining, and the DJ was playing good music. I was going to wait for front, but one employee said they were only sending out 2 more trains, so I went towards the back. I ended up getting the last train of the night on the red train in the back. It pretty much made up for not going in the front. Amazing, amazing night ride. I finally got off the ride at 10:50.

Cedar Point is pretty much amazing. This was my 5th time there, and I decided that it wasn't nearly enough. I wish I could've been there for 2 or 3 days, but money sucks... I'm glad I went and I hope to go again next year.

Magnum - 5
Millennium Force - 2
Dragster - 2
Raptor - 1
Mantis - 1
maXair - 1
Wicked Twister - 1
Mean Streak - 1
Blue Streak - 1
Disaster Transport - 1
Iron Dragon - 1
Power Tower - 1
Demon Drop - 1
Total - 19

After this trip I pretty much have a somewhat different top 5. While we began heading back home, we nearly got into two accidents, it was very scary...

I've posted pics from the trip in my personal gallery.

How many trains was Thunderhawk running? How many trains were all the roller coasters running? Thunderhawk only carries 20 people per train while Dominator takes 32.

If Dominator is running two, and Thunderhawk only has one, that means that Dominator has 64 people going through while Thunderhawk only has 20 people. Forty something is a big difference.

You didn't go on the new ride at Cedar Point called Screamin' Swing. Was it open, or did it just look too packed?

Can we see your shirt included with the pictures, and how much does it cost??

Every coaster except Dominator was running one. I just thought it was weird because I didn't understand why so many people wanted to go on Thunderhawk, but whatever.

Are you talking about Skyhawk? Or some other ride I've never heard of?

I guess I will take a picture of it at some point, but I don't have one right now. It costs 17.95 or something like that.

I think that might be the real name of the Skyhawk (S&S Screamin' Swing). Sorry, about that. So, did you go on it?

People look at Thunderhawk, and think it LOOKS like a good ride. I think it doesn't look horrible. Then, when people go on it, they probably realize that it's not good.

47 rides on Dominator?! Holy crap! You did an awesome job with your totals this trip. Sounds like you had fun, besides the accidents... I almost got in one on my way home from Wisconsin Dells last night... it is scary.

Great job on the TR, also.
