SF Elitch Gardens 6-15-06

Let us know how your day at the park was.

Every year, my church takes our youth to various cities across the country. Last year we went to Chicago and I try not to remember what happened when we went to SFGAm. This year, we took our youth to Denver and SF Elitch Gardens was a part of the trip . This park is no where big in comparison to Great America or SFOG, but it did provide some great moments (and some bad ones).

Arrival Time: 10:00am

Crowds: Moderate

Ride Order:
Boomerang - Nothing spectacular, but the ride was very smooth.

Twister II - Awesome woodie, great air time, and the tunnel was amazing.

Thunder Bolt - This ride goes in circles, plays music, and suppose to travel in a forward and backward motion, but it only went forward.

Shipwreck Falls - Similar to Splashwater Falls and very refreshing.

Half Pipe - This ride was great and made me very dizzy.

Disaster Canyon - Similar to Roaring Rapids, without getting wet. Very Disappointing

Side Winder - This shuttle coaster should be taken down. The walk up to the tower was tiresome and the ride itself was just plan boring.

The Flying Coaster - Three Words: VERY ROUGH RIDE!!!

Mind Eraser - For years, I've always wanted to ride an inverted coaster in the front but the lines have always been long so I usually just get in the next available cart. This was my first time to do so and I loved every minute of it.

After riding all of the rides, I ate lunch, played some games, and checked out their water park "Island Kingdom".

Departure time: 3:00pm

Overall, SFEG was an ok park. It's nothing to brag about, but the kids had a good time and so did I. Also, they were selling the big collectors map and I bought one for $3.00. I haven't seen one of those maps in a long time and I was glad to get one.

I wish my youth group would take me there! We're going to Indiana Beach so I guess I have nothing to complain about but I want to visit other Six Flags parks.

The only thing I hate about those type of trips are the LONG bus rides. Driving from Memphis to Denver is around a 15 hour drive (NON STOP). Of course we had to stop along the way and spend the night in a hotel in Kansas City (roughly 8 hours away from both Memphis and Denver). Also, we had two buses traveling across the country which made the journey even longer.

If you stopped in KC you should have went to WoF...I haven't been to SFEG but I'm willing to WoF is a better park...

Then again your trips don't sound like they're exactly based around coasters.

Wow, that's insane. I thought four hours non stop on a van was bad, geez!

^I go to Colorado skiing every year for spring break and we live in MN so we spend 15 hrs in a Dodge Caravan.

The ride sucks but the skiing is good so I guess the drive is worth it.

The trip we planned was primarily based on educational factors. Six Flags was secondary. I forgot about WoF when we were doing the planning process (back in January). I could have made that suggestion, but the kids were already excited about Elitch Gardens so that was the final choice.

I can see why Six Flags Elitch Gardens might be on the chopping block just in fairness with the roller coasters.

The Flying coaster sounds horrible. From experience, SLC's are a piece of junk. The Arrow Shuttle loop, and the Boomerang remind of the same thing even though they must be different. This is only looking at pictures. The Arrow must be boring as you said. The other one is the skateboard which doesn't look that fun. It's looks like it might be iffy, and people who like coasters are sometimes the people that don't like spinning flats. The coaster you have left is the wooden one which you said is awesome. Goodbye Elitch Gardens (maybe). To me, it looks like a place that should go.

Wrong topic but if Darien Lake goes, where's that standup going to go. Maybe, America will take the stand up, and we will get the Ultratwister???
If SF did that though, this would be stupid. We have enough rollercoasters even though I wouldn't mind it one bit. They should give one of them to SFStL.

We're probably one of the last parks any old coasters would go to.
