August 21st and 22nd-Kinda Long

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Mr. SFGAm on August 23rd, 2004, 4:09 pm
Well, I finally got back to Great America for the first time since June. It was me and three friends. The entire way down to GAm, I was listening to the weather forecasts and hearing how beautiful it was going to be made me dread the crowds.
We arrived in the lot on Saturday at about 9:20am. We got our tickets, and made our way to the Orleans Place chain. Exactly at 10, the chain dropped and we were on our way to....

Batman: The Ride:
First ride of the day, in Row 6. What a way to wake up! It was awesome, smooth and fast just like always. I'm still lovin' that yellow paint! After BTR, we immediately went for....

Vertical Velocity
Walked right to the station, and to Row 5. AFter our first round, we went back for another, this time I rode in Row 1. Front row was awesome. It almost feels like you can reach out and touch the top of the spiraled tower! After our two rides on V2, It was off to....

Iron Wolf
Front row, 5 min wait. This ride in front is awesome! It's a lot smoother, and more exciting to be seeing where you're going! Next up....

American Eagle Red
One word... WOW! This was running awesome! We ended up kicking blue's @$$ because we didn't get any trimming at the top of the big helix. The return run had massive air over every hill, and we barely touched the trims on the last helix. I was stunned. All of my friends were too, and saying that the ride was actually fun for once. (they were never big AE fans until Sat!) After AE we did Great American Raceway, and then.....

Whizzer
30 min wait, last car. This ride is running well too. Always a fun ride, and we can never pass it by! We then made our way to...

Viper
We ended up running into something that would be a re-accuring theme on this trip... Lapbar problems. My first ride in 1:3, and the lapbar was about four inches off my lap, and would not go down another click. The ops today didn't seem to notice though. What I got was an awesome airtime ride! I was almost standing over every hill! On to....

Demon
Row 6 or 7, 30 min wait  . We used all the switchbacks by the station, and the line was back to the entrance. It was official, the park was now packed! Anyway, Demon was great as always. I love the first drop, and I got to ride in my beloved yellow train!

After the Demon, we went out to the parking lot to eat lunch. It's real nice when four people can eat $20 worth of food, instead of paying $15 each. We noticed the overflow lot was going through some tree and lightpole removal, and that the part that wasn't under construction was filling up fast!
Once back in the park, we went for....

Raging Bull
Row 9, 45 min wait(including a 15 min breakdown) Only using one of the two switchback houses. Halfway through, I heard the sound of breaks. Looking up, the red was in the midcourse, the teal was stuck on the lift, and yellow was between the station and the shed. It was up again in 15 min. Row 9 = Awesome as always! Overall great ride, except for that third hill trim.
After Bull, we went to American Eagle Backwards, which I thought was kind of rough, but still fun. During the rest of the afternoon, we hit Sky Trek Tower, then Viper again.
After Viper, we ran into a guy that talked us into buying a Fastlane ticket for $5. Then we couldn't decide what to use it on. So I said which ride has the longest line in the park? We all looked at each other, then went to....

Superman: Ultimate Flight

It felt kind of nice bypassing a 90 minute line for a 15 minute one! Superman was great in row 7. I ended up buying and On Ride Photo, and this is where my one complaint came in(see below). Whoever said this ride is loosing popularity already is sorely mistaken!

We left at about 6:00 to go check into our hotel, and bring our stuff in. WE went back to Great America at about 7:45, and had dinner (a very good one, I might add) at Aunt Marthas Boarding house. I thought that two big pieces of chicken, a heap of mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, and a dinner roll for $7.00 was halfway decent! Immediately after, one of my other friends and I hit up...

The Orbit
I....Love.....this.....ride!!! It was so much fun, especially in the dark!

After Orbit, we took night rides on American Eagle Red, Demon, Raging Bull(I think I heard a pssst out of the fighure 8 trim  ), and Viper before calling it a night. Went back to the hotel, and fell right to sleep!

Sunday, August 22nd.
First note of the day, Warm. It was pretty warm out already at 9:00. Got to GAm at about 9:45, and went by the Hometown Square chain. It dropped, and while everyone went to Raging Bull, We hit up Viper. From Viper, I saw Deja Vu cycling.....with people!!!! WE ran right over there, and jumped in line.

Deja Vu
The line was only back to the stairs leading up to the station, so it ended up being about 15 mins. This ride was more fun that I remember, but still not the best. We were all just excited that we got to ride it.
After Vu, we rode AE Red twice in a row, and this is were I think I saw w00dland on the AE exit ramp. I'm pretty sure it was him, but by the time I realized were I remembered him from he went off a different way than we did. Next up was....

Revolution
This was nuts! I think I liked this one a little more than the Orbit. :P After Revy, we bypassed Iron Wolf's full que, and went to....

Spacely's Sprocket Rockets
I got to go in the front row!! Seriously, this ride has a little bit more zip than it looks like it does! I always thought it was a fine little coaster! Next up was a little wettness....

Logger's Run
It was also my first time on this. We got pretty wet! It was a fun ride.
After Logger's, we rode B:TR, Whizzer, and Viper. We ended the day around 3:00 with a ride on Triple Play( :D ), and Scenic Railroad.

All in all it was a great trip. Sunday was nowhere near as busy as Saturday. Bathrooms were clean(for the most part), and midways were well kept. Deja Vu felt like an added bonus, and ran the whole day(until 3:00 at least). I only ended up with one complaint, which ended up going to GR. At the S:UF on ride photo, the two girls that were working it were too busy throwing pens at each other, and trying to make the other lose track of what she was doing to realize we wanted to buy one. I didn't have a problem with this, until one loudly called the other a b*tch, and the other responded with f*ck you, infront of a bunch of families that had little kids present. The parents were clearly shocked. This is not the kind of family atmosphere that Six Flags should be putting up with, and the lady at GR said they had two other complaints about the same incident as well, and that the workers would be dealt with.
Other than that, Deja Vu didn't operate at all Sat, and IMS, and East River Crawler were closed all day both days. I managed to chip two more rides off of my list of rides I have never ridden. (Logger's and Revy) All I have left are King Chaos, Big Easy, Whirligig, and Ragin' Cajun.
As always it was a GREAT trip to Great America!!

Thanks for reading! :)
Finally Coaster Season!!

Glad you had a fun trip. Those girls at the Superman photo booth will probably only be scolded or docked some pay.(They are very low in employees right now.)
