Short WDW Trip 8/20-21/04

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Virtua Tennis on August 21st, 2004, 8:52 pm
Like always, I was really impressed with the World...everything was real clean, cast members were everywere most were very nice, I didn't see any cliente problems (for once ) and it wasn't very busy, of course Magic was a giant bottleneck like always but Epcot and MGM wern't bad at all..my visit was very short though.
Heres a list of major attractions I went on and what I thaught of them:

Magic Kingdom-10/10
By far the most crowded but I didn't really mind. The opening procudere was pretty neat. At the train station right above the entrance they did a broadway type show then braught the charectors on the train and officially opened the park (with ribbons shot off and everything).

Space Mountain-1 ride first dispatch/ 2 total rides- 9/10.
I was pretty far back at opening but right when the park opening creamed everybody to Space...unfortunatley there was a cast member in front car so I went 2:1 on the first ride, still a major kick arse family coaster! It was a lot more wild my second time near the back.

Splash Mountain- 1 ride front row/ 1 ride back row/ 2 total rides- 10/10.
I sat in the front first time and came off completely soaked, and from the back I came off completely dry (I already knew this from previous visits but it's still good to know). I love the logs with the rows.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad- 1 total ride- 8/10.
Not real wild at all but the effects were great. I was closer to the back cause you get tossed around more back there. No real drops at all but an awesome themed mine train coaster (and duel loading :)).

Haunted Mansion- 2 total rides- 9/10.
Pretty spectacular attraction. Effects are tremendous and awesome theming. Kinda reminded me of B:TR which is in Yankee Harbor, Mansion's in Liberty Square. Don't know if theres a story to that are not. Seemed kinda odd, but it's a great attraction anyway.

Buzz Lightyear Spaceranger Spin- 1 total ride- 8/10.
Was down when I went to it in the morning, but got on it later. Really fun addicting ride. My score was 2200 and all the kids around me kicked my a**.

Phillarmagic- 1 total show- 7/10.
Pretty good show, a lot of the 3d effects were kind of random and un needed, for example, Donald just goes flying out of the screen a few times when hes falling....wasn't too spectacular but I liked it.

Epcot- 8/10
This wasn't my best visit to Epcot, I had very little time there and besides I:RoE didn't even step in World Showcase (dang, I like it too). I probabaly would have liked it a lot better if I had more time like previous visits. Innoventions was closed (both sides I think) and Wonders of Life was also closed (although I knew it would be).

Mission Space- 3 total rides- 7/10.
Since I was single rider I was navigator all 3 times, doesn't make a difference anyway because all the positions do is press a button that lights up (two different ones). Although I think it's a good ride, it's definitly not the super, major, outstanding, monster e-ticket they make it out to be (which kind of threw me off). There are about a zillion warnings in line and pre-show brefiengs telling people "ENCLOSED DARK SPACES, HEAVY FORCES, IF IN DOUBT DO NOT RIDE." And yes, there are a few spots of very heavy positive g's like I never experienced anything like and that was awesome, but other than that theres not much. Theres little lateral movement, and the story wasn't all that great. It didn't really feel like your in space (but aparrently that's how space shuttle cockpits are). I like Test Track better.

Test Track- 2 total rides- 8/10.
It wasn't having the best day, there was a board saying that some of it was off for repairs. All the good parts were still there though. One thing I don't remember since my last visit in 2001 was the constant braking and slowing down (even right before the speed test). The speed test was still awesome though, last helix is insane.

Spaceship Earth- 1 total ride- 8/10.
Geosphere is my favorite Disney park icong [thing]. Rides pretty relaxing also, I actually learned something . Very well done.

Illuminations Reflections of Earth- 10/10.
Spectacular, can't really describe it. All the music, fireworks, and effects
flowed so smoothly and the show was great.

Disney MGM Studios- 10/10.
I was very, very impressed with the studios. I could stay on Rockin', Tower, and Great Movie Ride all day. All the attractrions were great (besides Star Tours). Got in somewhat early for Resort Magic Hour but due to Rockin' didn't get on much, and left in the afternoon. It also was not very crowded at all.

Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror- 1 ride first dispatch/ 2 total rides- 9/10.
Got on the first ride of the day (meant to go to Rockin' but I was on the wrong side traffic wasn't going my way). Anyway, great, great ride. Everything was well done, my first ride had a real crappy drop program (I felt like I was on a Frog Hopper) so I decided to give it another chance later and it was a lot better (it didn't stop at the top of the drops) giving some great float. Only reason it's a 9 is because the first ride wasn't nearly as good. Also I love the uniforms :).

Rockin' Roller Coaster- 2 rides front row/ 4 total rides- 10/10.
I was cleared from the line in the morning after it went down, but got on soon after. My favorite coaster in FLA by far. Beats the snot out of Scorpion and the Unincredible Hulk. So damn good I had to ride it 4 times (and I was only there till 3:15). I love everything about the ride, except the retarted Fastpass. I swear it was like 50/50 it was the stupidest line management i've ever seen. Other than that the rides so damn perfect, launch is great, ride is great, while the queue theming up until preshow is nothing, the actual ride theme is spectacular! My personal favorite ride at WDW.

Great Movie Ride- 1 total ride- 10/10.
Another ride that was totally awesome at the studios. I also like how it had 2 queues. Makes the huge theatre queue house perfectly designed (meaning bearable). Actual ride was terrific! Of all the rides in the world i'd want to work on, this would be it.

Backlot Tour Featuring Catastrophe Canyon- 1 total ride- 9/10
Another impressive as hell attraction at the studios. They changed it from the last time I had been there so that the first set is based on Pearl Harbor scenes and it was a lot better than it used to be. Show was great, tour is good. And got to see the theatre and latticework and stuff for the new stunt show stadium.

Who Wants to be a Millionare Play It- 1 total show- 8/10.
Very fun, unfortunatley I didn't get picked. I was on the board for Fastest Finger but then forgot the keypad for the first 2 questions  so I didn't get enough points to play.

Star Tours- 1 total ride- 6/10.
Only thing I did in the studios that didn't impress the hell out of me. Bleh, not good at all, just old and dated.

------------------------------

Overall I had a great time at WDW, although it was a very short visit. I hope to go back soon. I should have tons of pictures up Sunday night. As a reminder I hardly ever give out 10/10's WDW is the only place I ever have (I think, lol).

If i'm not mistaken, Michael Eisner owns Walt Disney Corp. now.

He's the CEO not the owner, Disneys a public company (although i'm sure Eisner has quite a few shares ;)).

Glad to hear you had a good time. I hopefully will be visiting again this year in November. I tried to warn you about Mission:SPACE.

One thing that stuck out huge was your comment about RRC at MGM. I am a Disney buff but the coaster itself sucks unless you are sitting frot row. The theme is what makes the ride. I am a huge Aerosmith fan so that also added to the experience. I can not say however that it is better than Hulk. For any thrill seeking coaster buff Hulk is the better coaster. The amount of inversions, the launch, the atmosphere, and the speed of the coaster just makes it a kick a** coaster. It wasn't rated number one for nothing. RRC is a good starting coaster and is well themed, but I wouldn't say it was better than Hulk.

Glad you had fun and contributed to the M. Eisner fund.

I just got back from WDW today. (I'll have a trip report up as soon as get around to it..lol. I am freakin tired beyond belief right now).
Anyway, about the Eishner comments.. Roy Disney Jr, Walt Disney's nephew, I think, is in the process of taking back the company. I, for one, cannot wait until it actually happens. (I was told by an employee over at MGM, at "One Man's Dream" that it already happened, but until I see it in print, as some sort of offical word, I am not going to believe it).
Check out savedisney.com (I believe that's the site, if that's not the right link, I'll go find it tomorrow or something...lol) it has all the info on the whole takeover and stuff.
The WDW parks are great now - just wait until the Disney family is back in control.

Roy Disney was successful up to the past Shareholder's Meeting in March. There was an un-precidented "no-confidence" vote against Michael Eisner. However, the only change was the small token loss of Chairman to Mr. Eisner's title/role. He is still CEO and he is still in control.

Roy and Stanley will not be engaging again in a proxy war/ouster campaign until it gets closer to the shareholder meeting. However, following the story in the press is a great way to keep abrest of this interesting, historic, turn of events.

The cast member gave you false information. You are wise to wait for documented proof.
