I finally got my chance to experience a theme park outside of SFGAm, and PKI.
Me and a friend decided to make SFOG and BGT a part of our celebratory college graduation trip to Florida.
Well, we drove from Appleton, Wisconsin to my aunt's house in Cincinnati on day 1. We then left Cincinnati very early the next morning, and arrived in Atlanta at 11:00am; about seven hours earlier than we had planned. So we decided we'd rather take our chances and go to SFOG one day earlier than we'd planned. We went on opening day so we didn't have to spend the whole day in the hotel.
As luck would have it, our hotel gave us a buy one get one free coupon, and we were on the way. As we arrived, we realized that we were going to have an awesome, crowd free day! Keep in mind that my friend is in no way a coaster nut, as he had only been on American Eagle and Raging Bull before this trip.
Entering SFOG, it reminds me of a smushed down version of SFGAm, only w/out the carousel. It is a very beautiful park. Lots of shade trees, and landscaping. The park was empty enough that all coasters had only one train operation. Our first ride of the day would be none other than....
Georgia Cyclone
1 ride, 5/10
After reading a lot of reviews on this ride, I was expecting it to be out of this world. Instead, it ended up being the biggest case of anticipointment I've had. It was on the rough side, and didn't really give any airtime. All in all it was a big letdown for me, and my friend didn't care for it either.
Making our way to the back of the park, we boarded......
Dahlonega Mine Train
1 ride, 5/10
For what this ride is worth, it is a great family ride. Once for me though was enough. On to bigger and better......
Superman: Ultimate Flight
4 rides, 9/10
This version of Superman kicks Sfgam's version's @$$!!! On this one, you actually have close encounters with the ground, awnings, and tunnels. There was even an allusion of speed and intensity! This was my friends first looping coaster, and his favorite coaster of the day! Next up was my favorite ride of the day.......
Great American Scream Machine
4 rides, 10/10
This ride put the American Eagle to shame! It is an absolutly beautiful coaster, with it's fresh new paint. It has tons of airtime, and headchoppers, and is a pretty smooth ride. My friend was dreading it just because it was wood, and he thought it'd be just like the Georgia Cyclone. He ended up loving it. Now on to the biggest surprise of the day......
Ninja
5 rides, 8/10
I thought this would be the stinker of the collection, but I was definately wrong. Sure it has it's rough moments, but it is a great ride with plenty of wierd inversions and close calls. Back to a more familiar ride.......
Batman: The Ride
4 rides, 9/10
Compared to ours, something was definately missing, but after our first ride, I figured it out.....The landscaping!!! This ride is still awesome, but it is built to be the protector of a gravel pit! Other than that, it had great theming, and gave a ride just like ours.
Now, after trying twice to get on this next one, but having the train get stuck on the brakes both times, we finally got to experience......
Mindbender
1 ride, 10/10
This is Schwartzkopf at his finest! This ride was awesome!! It had airtime, incredible forces, and tons of close calls. I wanted to ride again, but the ride went down for quite awhile soon after we got off. Now on to......
Georgia Scorcher
4 rides, 8/10
After riding this, I kind of dread riding Iron Wolf now! This was a great ride, and is proof that stand-ups are still great rides. The steep twists are awesome, and little pops of airtime compliment this coaster well. It also has very comfortable trains! I almost forgot, that somewhere between all of these rides, we conquered...
Acrophobia
This was a pretty cool freefall ride. I didn't really notice the seats tilting out as much as I thought. Definately a scary ride!
Well, for getting to the park at about 1:00, and closing being at 6:00, I think we did pretty darn good. My friend liked all of the coasters except Georgia Cyclone. He didn't even have a problem with Ninja!
I highly encourage you all to visit this park if you're ever in Atlanta. We had a great time, and when all of their new rides open, there will be more than plenty to do. This park is right along with Great America as one of Six Flag's best parks.
And another big surprise that made me feel right at home was the "This ride will not operate today" sign in front of Deja Vu!
Oh Well. Sorry this got kinda long, and if you hung in through my rambling, thanks for reading. Busch Gardens Tampa is next!
Very Great TR good job and I'm glad you had fun at SFoG. Iam planning on going to SFoG in the near future such as later this year. So this makes me wanna go even more. Thank you and very good TR.
What do you mean by a smushed down version of sfgam? SFOG is allmost four times as large (sfgam is 100 acres, one of the smallest parks out there, sfog is in the 3 to 4 hundreds), and the landscaping suposedly unbeleivable.
I get so jeleous of theyr s:uf. i wish it was posible to just dump a ton of dirt and build a plastic tunnel at sfgam around the ride.
I'm going to be at SFOG on April 17th. Your TR should help me alot on picking what rides to pick first! Thanks
http://themeparkcritic.com/scripts/profile/ViewProfile.asp?ViewID=2909 A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

I meant just the entrance plaza area. I should have typed that better.
But you are right. SFOG is a big park, as it takes quite awhile to walk from S:UF to Batman to Georgia Scorcher.
I thought that Georgia cyclone was better then Scream Machine, when I went I got alot of air-time on Cyclone and none at all on Scream Machine. I rode in the back row on both too, wierd....

Six Flags Great America is actually about 300 acres.

Six Flags Great America is actually about 300 acres.
No, sorry. Theres alot of confusion there. By my own experiences it is a pretty small park compared to mm and gadv (which ar around 215 and 300).
The whole property is 300 acres. the park was 100, but now its about 120 with the 11 acre southwest territory, the space shuttle america plaze, and s:uf. The parking lots another 80 acres, and the other side of the tollway is 157 (which doesnt even belong to the park anymore).
So in reallity, the whole property is around 150 acres.
By your own experience? WTF? Im sorry I was unaware that you got your ruler out and measured how big the park was in acres during your visits to the parks.
Do a search on google "Six Flags Great America acres" tell me your results....I bet it's 300. And that's not including the land across the expressway.
BTW I forgot to comment eairlier, Great TR Mr. SFGAm
